Marcil Returning to “General Hospital” for Brief Stint

It looks like Vanessa Marcil is checking back into General Hospital

The 44-year-old half-Mexican American actress will reprise her star-making role as Brenda Barrett Corinthos on ABC’s long-running soap opera, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Vanessa Marcil

The announcement comes as General Hospital continues to celebrate its 50th anniversary on the network.

GH hasn’t announced Marcil’s return date, but sources say it’ll happen sometime before April 1.

Marcil is expected to appear on the daytime soap for more than a few weeks, meaning fans will see the love triangle between Jax (Ingo Rademacher, who will be returning at the same time as Marcil), Brenda and Sonny (Maurice Benard).

Marcil and Rademacher are among the former cast members who’ve come back to help celebrate the soap’s milestone

Marcil originated the role of Brenda in 1992. After an eight-year absence from the show, she returned to GH for a year from 2010-11.

Marcil’s other credits include starring on NBC’s Las Vegas series, appearing in Prince’s “The Most Beautiful Girl in the World” video and guest-starring on Hawaii Five-0.

Benard Receives Seventh Daytime Emmy Award Nod

Maurice Benard has plenty of reason to celebrate this week…

The 49-year-old Salvadorian & Nicaraguan American soap opera star has notched his seventh Daytime Emmy Awards nomination for his role as romantic mobster Michael “Sonny” Corinthos, Jr. on ABC’s General Hospital.

Maurice Benard

Benard is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. He’ll face off against his General Hospital co-star Anthony Geary, as well as The Bold And The Beautiful’s John McCook, All My Children’s Darnell Williams and One Life to Live’s Robert S. Woods.

Benard, who has been playing “Sonny” since 1993, won the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series back in 2003 for his popular role on General Hospital.

In all, General Hospital leads the field with 23 nominations.

The 39th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards will take place on Saturday, June 23.
