de Oliveira to Star in ABC’s Single-Camera Comedy Pilot “Jalen vs. Everybody”

Laysla de Oliveira has landed a new project…

The Brazilian actress has been cast in ABC’s single-camera comedy pilot Jalen vs. Everybody, from Nahnatchka Khan, creator/executive producer of ABC’s family comedy Fresh Off the Boat, and the series’ executive producer Jake Kasdan.

Written by Khan, the comedy follows former NBA player and current ESPN personality Rose as he juggles his career responsibilities with the challenges of being a single dad.

De Oliveira will portray Angela, Jalen’s girlfriend, who works for a fashion magazine. Angela’s a big part of Jalen’s life, and has a good relationship with his young daughters, and even his ex.

She joins previously announced cast members Marla Gibbs and Anna Maria Horsford, who play Jalen’s grandmother and mother, respectively.

de Oliveira’s previous credits include appearances on Nikita, Gothica and Covert Affairs.

De Oliveira Cast in the Indie Dark Comedy “Business Ethics”

The Brazilian actress will star in the indie dark comedy Business Ethics.

From Innis Lake Entertainment and Skylight Picture Works, the film will also star Sarah Carter, Larenz Tate, Jessica Parker Kennedy and Gil Bellows, who starred in the original short film.

Nick Wernham is directing the film from his short, about a man who sets out to run a Ponzi scheme.

Kurtwood Smith, Lance Reddick and Angus Macfadyen had previously joined the cast.

Carter will play Veronica, the loyal but unsuspecting assistant to Zachery Cranston (Tate). Unaware of his financial schemes, she develops unrequited feelings for him.

de Oliveira, who has appeared on television in Covert Affairs and Nikita, will play Cranston’s ex-wife Rosa.

The film begins production next week in Toronto.

Longoria Partnering with the CW for a Legal Drama Project

Eva Longoria is set to bring some legal aid to the CW…

The 38-year-old Mexican American actress/producer and former Desperate Housewives star is teaming up with the network to create a legal drama project that will feature the CW’s signature soapy elements.

Written by Nikita co-executive producer Albert Kim, the untitled drama centers on a woman imprisoned for a double murder she didn’t commit who earns her law degree while behind bars, then wins her freedom and joins the high-powered law firm that she believes is at the center of the conspiracy that framed her.

Longoria’s UnbeliEVAble Entertainment will produce the project with Warner Bros. Television.

This marks UnbeliEVAble’s third sale this season. The company also has Trust, an hourlong soap based on the popular Colombian telenovela Pura Sangre, and a comedy inspired by sex therapist Laura Berman, both at NBC.

Longoria is currently serving as an executive producer on Lifetime’s Devious Maids, which was recently renewed for a second season.

Pascal Cast in NBC’s “The Sixth Gun” Pilot

Pedro Pascal will be packing heat soon…

The Latino actor has landed a gun-toting role in NBC‘s pilot The Sixth Gun.

Produced by Carlton Cuse, the supernatural Western – which is based on the comic book of the same name – centers on six mythical guns, each with its own otherworldly powers. When the Sixth Gun, the most powerful and dangerous of the bunch, resurfaces in the hands of an innocent farmer’s daughter named Becky Montcrief (Laura Ramsey), dark forces reawaken.

Pascal will portray Special Agent Ortega, one of the two detectives who follow Mercer’s (Aldis Hodge) lead.

Pascal, who is currently appearing in a recurring role on ABC’s just-launched Red Widow series and USA’s Graceland, has previously appeared on CBSThe Good Wife, Nikita and Body of Proof.
