Myke Towers Earns First No. 1 on Billboard Global Excl. U.S. Chart with “LaLa”

Myke Towers is LaLa-loving life right now…

The 29-year-old Puerto Rican rapper’s latest single “LaLa” surges from No. 13 to No. 1 on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart dated July 22, becoming his first leader on the list.

Myke TowersTowers’ track rockets to the top of the chart after logging 70.4 million streams outside the U.S. July 7-13, a 101% increase.

The profile of the reggaetón-powered Spanish-language song has recently swelled on TikTok, after the track was released in March.

The single becomes Towers’ first Global Excl. U.S. No. 1, following three top 10s: “Pareja Del Año,” with Sebastián Yatra (No. 9 peak, May 2021); “Bandido,” with Juhn (No. 6, February 2021); and “Caramelo,” with Ozuna and Karol G (No. 10, September 2020).

The Billboard Global Excl. U.S. charts, which started in September 2020, ranks songs based on streaming and sales activity culled from more than 200 territories around the world, as compiled by Luminate. The Global Excl. U.S. chart comprises data from territories excluding the United States.

Chart ranks are based on a weighted formula incorporating official-only streams on both subscription and ad-supported tiers of audio and video music services, as well as download sales, the latter of which reflect purchases from full-service digital music retailers from around the world, with sales from direct-to-consumer (D2C) sites excluded from the charts’ calculations.

Ozuna Signs with Scooter Braun‘s SB Projects

Ozuna is hoping to build up his music empire with a little extra braun

The 31-year-old Puerto Rican singer, songwriter, and rapper has signed with Scooter Braun‘s SB Projects.

Ozuna

The management deal is a partnership with Edgar Andino, founder and CEO of Andino Marketing Group.

Ozuna joins a SB Projects roster that includes Justin BieberAriana Grande and Demi Lovato, among others.

The company also previously managed Colombian powerhouse J Balvin, who parted ways with SB in June 2022 and is now signed to Roc Nation.

“I’m confident that Scooter and his team’s global music expertise will open doors into new markets,” Ozuna said in a statement. “We all share the same strategic vision and direction to keep spreading my music worldwide. I’m truly excited about all the new opportunities the future holds.”

“His music is a true voice of his community, and we look forward to working with him here at Hybe on a global scale,” Braun, CEO of HYBE America, added.

A key figure in Ozuna’s team, Andino has helped the singer-songwriter land global deals that range from NFT collaborations to releasing a song for the Call of Duty video game.

Most recently, he led negotiations for Ozuna’s inclusion in the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Official Soundtrack, performing “Arhbo” with rapper GIMS. The uplifting song, which they performed at the World Cup’s closing ceremony, peaked at No. 1 Billboard‘s Latin Airplay chart.

“Working with Ozuna over these past years, one thing is for certain, we always go big,” added Andino.  “For us, Scooter and SB Projects align with our vision. They are the perfect partners to help in our continued approach and take Ozuna to the next level of his career. We cannot be more thrilled and cannot wait for everyone to see what we have coming next.”

In May, he released Afro, a seven-track EP where he experiments with Afrobeats. It followed his 2022 studio album, Ozutochi, which landed at No. 5 on the Top Latin Albums chart. Ozuna is set to embark on his Afro Tour across Europe this summer, which has 16 confirmed dates, including stops in France, Spain, Italy, Israel and Holland. The monthlong trek kicks off July 7 in France and wraps Aug. 6 in Spain.

“We’ve been following Ozuna’s career for years and we’re excited to be bringing him into the family to work with him and Edgar,” Jennifer McDaniels, president of management at SB Projects, said in a statement.

“Ozuna’s music is unmatched.  His ability to work across genres including reggaeton, Latin pop, and more, is phenomenal. With unique songs offering fresh perspective and beautiful sounds, we’re thrilled to amplify his artistry with this partnership.”

Nicky Jam to Launch Dímelo Europa Tour This Summer

Nicky Jam is heading across the Atlantic…

The 42-year-old Puerto Rican and Dominican American urban singer-songwriter is heading to Europe with his Dímelo Europa Tour, which will kick off on June 23 in Switzerland and end August 6 in Italy.

Nicky JamThe tour, produced by CMN together with AP Live (Alexis Peña) and La Industria Inc (the company belonging to Nicky Jam’s manager Juan Diego Medina) will see Nicky Jam playing only festivals during a two months span.

Although Nicky Jam has long toured Europe, this marks his first all-fest tour, which in turn underscores the growing popularity of Latin music in Europe; many of the fests on his itinerary, including Puro Latino in Spain and Vívelo in Switzerland, are Latin music-centric.

Nicky Jam will kick off his trek at stalwart Vívelo in Zurich June 23 and will play a total of 14 European cities.

He’ll stop in Madrid, Milan and the South of France, among others, before ending his stint August 6 at the Rimini Festival in Italy.

Nicky Jam’s latest single, “69” with Feid, is climbing Billboard‘s Hot Latin Songs chart, where it currently sits at No. 41 in its second week on the chart.

He’s also expected to play from a stable of huge hits, including “El Perdon,” “X,” “Te Bote” and “El Amante.”

Across his two-decade-plus career, Nicky Jam has scored a staggering 16 No. 1 hits on Billboard’s Latin Airplay chart, as well as nine entries on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 — led by the No. 34 peaking “Otro Trago,” alongside Sech, Darell, Ozuna and Anuel AA.

Manuel Turizo’s “El Merengue” Collaboration with Marshmello Reaches No. 1 on Billboard’s Latin Airplay Chart

Manuel Turizo is hip-shaking his way to the top of the charts…

The 23-year-old Colombian singer’s Marshmello collaboration “El Merengue” has risen to No.1 on Billboard’s Latin Airplay chart dated June 10.

Manuel Turizo“El Merengue” jumps from No. 2 despite a 5% dip in audience impressions, to 10.4 million, earned in the U.S. in the week ending June 1, according to Luminate.

It ousts Grupo Frontera and Bad Bunny’s “Un x100to” after its three-week command, sending it to No. 2, likewise with a decline on weekly impressions (falls 11% to 10.36 million).

“El Merengue” is just the second tropical tune to lead the overall tally this year, after Romeo Santos and Rosalia’s “El Pañuelo” headed the February 25-dated ranking.

Turizo, meanwhile, cements his airplay No. 1 growth with six champs spanning almost six years. Previously, he topped Latin Airplay with another tropical track: “La Bachata” (one week in October 2022).

As “El Merengue” tops Latin Airplay, Marshmello becomes the first artist unfamiliar to the Latin genre to occupy the top slot in 2023. Congolese French singer and rapper Gims (born Gandhi Alimasi Djuna) last completed the deed as “Arhbo (Music From The FIFA World Cup Quatar 2022),” with Ozuna, took over Latin Airplay for three weeks last December.

Beyond its Latin Airplay coronation, “El Merengue” wins a second term at its No. 5 high on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs in its 13th week in the top 10, encompassing its entire run in the chart so far.

J Balvin & Bad Bunny Tie Ozuna for Top Spot on YouTube’s Billion Views Club with ““Si Tu Novio Te Deja Sola” Collab

It’s Lucky No. 13 for J Balvin and Bad Bunny

The 38-year-old Colombian urbano singer/songwriter and the 29-year-old Puerto Rican superstar have each notched their 13th video entry in YouTube’s Billion Views Club, according to the video platform.

J Balvin & Bad BunnyBalvin and Bad Bunny have now tied the record Ozuna previously held on his own.

All three reggaeton acts have become the artists with the most entries in the Billion Views Club as lead, featured artist or collaborator.

Balvin and Bad Bunny achieved the milestone with their 2017 collaborative effort “Si Tu Novio Te Deja Sola,” a tropical, groovy, trap fusion with cheeky lyrics that put Bad Bunny on the radar. The vibrant music video, filmed in the captivating landscapes of Puerto Rico, was uploaded to YouTube on March 3, 2017.

In 2022, J Balvin reclaimed his crown after his Black Eyed Peas-assisted “Ritmo (Bad Boys for Life)” video entered the club. He broke the tie he had with Justin Bieber, who currently has 11 titles with more than a billion views.

Earlier this year, however, Ozuna nabbed the crown notching two new entries with “Síguelo Bailando” and “Diles.” The latter — a collaboration with Bad Bunny, Farruko, Árcangel and Ñengo Flow, also became Bad Bunny’s 12th entry in the Billion Views Club.

Ozuna’s next video to hit one billion views will likely be “El Farsante” (977 million views as of press time). Balvin’s next contender is “Say My Name” with David Guetta and Bebe Rexha (982 million views). Bad Bunny’s next potential clip to reach the milestone viewership number is his feature on Nacho and Yandel’s “Bailame Remix” (975 million views).

With the new entry into the Billion Views Club, Balvin is now at No. 37 on YouTube’s Global Top Artists chart, whereas Bad Bunny lands at No. 6.

Shakira to Be Honored as Billboard’s ‘Woman of the Year’ at First-Ever Mujeres Latinas en la Música Gala

t’s a career-recognizing first for Shakira

The 46-year-old Colombian global superstar will be honored as Billboard’s Woman of the Year at the first-ever Mujeres Latinas en la Música gala.

ShakiraThe two-hour music special, hosted by Ivy Queen and Jacqueline Bracamontes and honoring Latin women in music, will be taped at the Watsco Center in Miami on May 6 and will air exclusively on Telemundo on May 7 at 9:00 pm ET/8:00 pm CT.

A first of its kind for Latin music, Mujeres Latinas en la Música celebrates Latin female artists, executives and creatives who are proactively working for positive change, inclusion and gender parity in the music industry.

Superstars Ana GabrielEmiliaEvalunaGoyo and Thalia will also receive special awards at the inaugural event presented by Billboard with Telemundo.

Shakira’s honor comes in the wake of an extraordinary year that has seen the superstar break records with the biggest Spanish-language debut of 2022 (“Monotonía” featuring Ozuna). Then, in January 2023, her “Shakira: BZRP Music Sessions #53” debuted at No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, making her the first woman to reach the top 10 on the chart with a song in Spanish.

“Shakira: BZRP Music Sessions #53” also made history as the most-streamed Latin track in 24 hours in Spotify history and the most-viewed Latin track on YouTube in 24 hours with over 63 million views, and it broke 14 Guinness World Records.

“Shakira is the ultimate Woman in Music. Thanks to her, Latin women all over the world have been empowered to write and perform deeply personal music. She created a movement all on her own, and continues to be more relevant than ever today, with grace, a deep tradition of giving back, and enormous talent. She is the definition of a Woman in Music,” said Leila CoboBillboard’s chief content officer for Latin/Español.

“Shakira has been pivotal in shaping the vibrant and diverse landscape of Latin music and music in general throughout her career. Her passion, talent and creativity have broken barriers and empowered generations to embrace our identity through music, and we are incredibly proud to recognize her as Woman of the Year in the industry,” said Ronald Day, president of entertainment and content strategy for Telemundo.

Shakira has sold more than 95 million records worldwide, making her one of the best-selling music artists of all time and the top-selling female Latin artist of all time. Her global success as a crossover artist opened doors for other Latin artists to enter international markets. She is the most-viewed Latin female artist, and one of the top 10 artists overall of all time on YouTube with over 20 billion cumulative views, and the most-streamed female Latin artist of all time on Spotify.

Aside from her stellar industry accolades, at the age of 18, Shakira created the Pies Descalzos Foundation, which has built and adapted nine public schools in Cartagena, Barranquilla, Guajira and Quibdó, with six in construction. The foundation has raised over 40 million dollars since inception and impacted more than 150,000 children and nearly 900,000 families.

Ozuna Partners with Coors Light to Release “Chill Conmigo” for Brand’s Newest Ritmo Chill Campaign

Ozuna is ready to chill

The 31-year-old Puerto Rican singer, songwriter and rapper has teamed up with Coors Light to kick off the beer brand’s newest campaign Ritmo Chill.

OzunaIn the spirit of Coors Light’s slogan “Made To Chill” — which is on par with Coors Light’s aesthetic of the Rocky Mountains — Ozuna heads towards the icy route but gives his newest song some heat with the tropical-laden single, “Chill Conmigo,” written and produced by the artist himself.

The visual follows Ozuna in an office setting as he’s ready to break free from work and go on a quest for chiller moments. So he climbs to the peak of the Rocky Mountains and discovers a loaded Coors Light cooler.

“Yo solo busco un ambiente para vacilar con mi gente,” he sings against a joyous mix of Afrobeats and calypso pop. “I’m just looking for an environment to hang out with my people.” Then the scene transitions to the Ozuna enjoying himself at a spring break-styled pool party.

“Ritmo Chill is a musical program focused on helping consumers eliminate daily pressures by relaxing with good music and a cold Coors Light,” said consumer excellence senior manager, LatAm, Yaidi Clery in a statement. “The collab with Ozuna is a dream partnership because they both embody that spirit of taking things easy and letting go with good vibes. Just like Ozuna, Coors Light is ‘made to chill’.”

Although Coors Light Latin America soft launched Ritmo Chill last year, which also includes a series of five playlists on Spotify titled “Chill with Friends,” “After Work,” “Beach Chill,” “Pool Time,” and “Chill Vibes,” it’s the first time the division launches an original song and video with a Latin powerhouse performer for their campaign.

Ozuna, a global reggaeton and Latin trap hitmaker, is a five-time No. 1 chart-topper on Hot Latin Songs. He has landed on the Top Latin Albums with all of his five albums, including two No. 1s, and has reached the Billboard Hot 100 twenty times to date with hits like  “Taki Taki,” “Te Boté,” “Monotonía,” “Criminal,” and more.

In December, Ozuna performed live at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 closing ceremony.
