Hayley Orrantia Releases Autobiographical New Ballad “If I Don’t”

Hayley Orrantiais opening up about her personal heartbreak.

The 25-year-old part-Mexican American singer and The Goldbergs star has released an autobiographical new song “If I Don’t,” which highlights the struggles at the end of a relationship.

Hayley Orrantia

The soaring ballad features whispered vocals from Orrantia, whowas a member of Lakoda Rayne, a country pop girl group assembled by Paula Abdul during the first season of The X Factor,as well ashand-snapped rhythms and confessional lyrics.

Orrantia penned the tune with Robyn Collinsand Mike Miller. She says she wrote “If I Don’t” during her “denial phase” towards the end of a relationship when she discovered an ex was lying to her. All the while, she ignored the red flags wanting to save face instead. These struggles are evident in the song’s biting lyrics:

“I could tell you it’s over/ But then it’d be over/ And some things are better unsaid,” she sings.

“It was an out-of-body experience for me seeing this video come to life,” Orrantia told Billboard. “This music is a reflection of my breakup and to have that played out again in front of me was eerie. I struggled finding a director who really understood the vision and meaning behind the song. Then I met with Emma Higginsand she just knew exactly where to take it. I found it important to have a female direct the video as it translates more honestly from story to script to screen because it is told by a woman.”

In the video, Orrantia relives a strained relationship with the help of fellow actor Spencer Neville, who plays her ex on screen. A longtime friend of hers, Orrantia says she appreciated the familiarity of working alongside Neville while channeling a deeply emotional time in her life.

“If I Don’t” is featured on Orrantia’s latest EP, The Way Out, released in May. When she’s not working on music, Orrantia plays the role of Erica Goldberg on the ABC comedy series The Goldbergs

Hayley Orrantia

The Goldbergs “Mixtape” will feature 14 tracks, including five classic ’80s songs that Orrantia, who portrays Erica, has covered, including Cyndi Lauper‘s “True Colors” and Katrina & the Waves‘ “Walking on Sunshine,” performed with AJ Michalka.

The Goldbergs, produced by Sony Pictures Television, has featured a number of original songs on the series as Erica has an interest in becoming a singer-songwriter, while Barry has dreams of becoming a famous rapper via his “alter-ego” Big Tasty. Garcia Debuts on the Billboard Charts with “GTFO My Room”

Nearly four years after being eliminated on American Idol’s ninth season, Andrew Garcia has made his first appearance on the Billboard charts.

The 28-year-old Mexican American singer, who first gained national attention for singing an acoustic version of Paula Abdul’s “Straight Up” during Hollywood Week in 2010, has been working at his craft ever since.

Andrew Garcia

Three years ago he was doing a live show with a group called YTF.

Ryan Higa and I were in our hotel jamming on guitar and we came up with a chorus,” Garcia tells The Hollywood Reporter. “We loved it but we scrapped it until we recorded it last summer.”

Higa and Garcia took the song to producer Andy Lange to record it and then shot a video of the tune, titled “GTFO My Room.”

“Ryan uploaded it to his channel, which has 11 million subscribers. I uploaded the acoustic version to my channel and Andy uploaded ‘the making of’ to his channel,” says Garcia.

The official music video was posted on Feb. 6 and has already garnered 1.8 million views.

All of this exposure had led to sales of the digital audio download, which debuts at No. 6 on Billboard’s Comedy Digital Tracks chart.

Garcia is the first Idol alum to appear on this list.

He is the fifth Idol from season nine to chart, following Lee DeWyze, Crystal Bowersox, Casey James and Michael Lynche, the top four finalists from that year.

Garcia is the 71st Idol to appear on the Billboard charts and the first to join this exclusive club since Candice Glover and Kree Harrison became the 69th and 70th Idols to chart in May 2013.

Lopez to Co-Host “The X Factor” with Khloe Kardashian

Extra, ExtraMario Lopez will be having an X-ceptional fall…

The 38-year-old Mexican American actor has reportedly signed on the dotted line to co-host Fox’s The X Factor alongside Khloe Kardashian, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Mario Lopez

A source close to the show says that Lopez has officially signed on, while Kardashian’s reps and the X Factor team have agreed on all points of her contract, and paperwork should be signed shortly.

The Extra host and E! reality TV star replace The X Factor’s season one host Steve Jones, who was cut  in a massive talent slash that also found judges Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger without jobs in late January.

Following the firings, Simon Cowell repeatedly stated that he hoped to hire two judges for the forthcoming season, one female and one male.

Kardashian had long been rumored to fill the position. Her friendship with new X Factor judge Demi Lovato helped seal her deal, a source said.

Meanwhile, Lopez’s name only recently entered the fray. Other potential hosts said to have been on the shortlist included Corbin Bleu, Kevin Jonas and Kevin McHale.

Kardashian and Lopez screen-tested separately. It’s unclear whether they’ve been on camera together yet.

A representative for Fox had no comment.

The X Factor returned with its season two premiere on Wednesday, September 12, with new judges Britney Spears and Lovato joining Cowell and L.A. Reid on the panel.

Kardashian and Lopez are expected to appear when the live shows begin later this fall.

Carey: Your Next American Idol Judge?

Mariah Carey could soon help make it happen for wannabe singers…

The 42-year-old part-Venezuelan American singer is reportedly in serious talks to be a judge on American Idol next season.

Mariah Carey

“She’s in play,” a source tells People magazine about the Grammy-winning singer’s chances of taking a seat at the judges’ table on Fox’s hit reality music singing competition. “They are in serious talks.”

Carey’s hiring would be a major celebrity gain for the show, especially with the announcement that Steven Tyler will not be returning next season and Jennifer Lopez walking away from her Idol role to return to acting/performing.

Carey, who is currently at work on a new album, has had a hugely successful career in music and made-for-TV eccentric personality.

Her star power could be a godsend for Fox and the show’s ratings slump (down 25 percent from 2011).

Since the show began switching up the panel when Paula Abdul left in 2009, the only original judge on the panel is Randy Jackson, who has collaborated with Carey throughout her career.

Lovato to Become “X Factor” Judge…

Following weeks of speculation, it appears that Demi Lovato will be factoring into Simon Cowell’s plans to revamp his hit reality singing competition series…

The 19-year-old part Mexican American singer/actress has officially signed on as the fourth and final judge for the upcoming season of Fox’s The X Factor, according to E! Online.

Demi Lovato to perform at the Latin Grammys

When X Factor returns in September, the former Disney Channel star will join newly appointed judge Britney Spears, who reportedly signed her deal last week, and last season’s judges Cowell and L.A. Reid.

Earlier this year, X Factor producers cleaned house by dismissing the show’s host Steve Jones and judges Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul. In March, Reid and Cowell confirmed the two open judges spots would be filled by women.

It appears the “Give Your Heart a Break” singer and Spears beat out some stiff competition for the coveted judging spots, including Janet Jackson, LeAnn Rimes and Miley Cyrus.

As reported last week, Spears is said to be receiving $15 million for the season.

No word yet on the details of Lovato’s contract, but she is expected to appear at Fox’s upfront presentation on Monday with Spears, where the formal announcement will be made.
