Alicia Sanz to Star in the Sci-Fi Thriller “Hello Stranger”

The 33-year-old Spanish actress and Robbie Amell have joined Sam Worthington and Jordana Brewster in the thriller Hello Stranger, which began filming in Canada this week.

Alicia SanzIn Hello Stranger, Faye (Brewster) attempts to replace her newly deceased husband, Evan, with an android simulant (SIM). Although SIM Evan appears like human Evan in every way, Faye does not feel the same love for SIM Evan as it does for her. SIM Evan tries to win Faye back while at the same time being on-the-run from a government agent (Worthington) chasing down SIMs who have become “conscious” and could potentially be a threat to humankind.

April Mullen directs from a script by Ryan Christopher Churchill. Producers are Tim Doiron and James van der Woerd in association with their production company Wango Films, with Myriad’s Kirk D’Amico (The Last Word) an executive producer.

Sanz is known for series like El Rey Network‘s From Dusk Til Dawn: The Series, Amazon’s El Cid and Apple’s Now and Then.

Kaya Scodelario’s “Resident Evil” Origins Story to Open Labor Day Weekend

Constantin’s new Resident Evil, starring the 28-year-old half-Brazilian actress, is set to open on Labor Day weekend, September 3 this year.

The film, distributed by Sony Screen Gems, is an origin story starring Scodelario, Hannah John-Kamen, Robbie Amell, Tom Hopper, Avan Jogia and Neal McDonough. The story takes place on a fateful night in Raccoon City in 1998. It’s directed and written by Johnannes Roberts.

Sony has the movie in the United States, Elevation in Canada, Constantin in German speaking countries, and Metropolitan in France with Sony handling the rest of the world.

The previous six Resident Evil movies have generated a total worldwide theatrical box office of $1.2 billion.

Gina Torres to Star in “The Hating Game”

The 50-year-old Cuban American actress and Suitsstar will star opposite Lucy Hale and Robbie Amell in the rom-com The Hating Game, which is set to start shooting in New York in August.

Peter Hutchingswill direct Christina Mengert’s adaptation of the best-selling novel by Sally Thorne.

The film tells the story of kind-hearted Lucy Hutton (Hale) and her cold-efficient nemesis Joshua Templeton (Amell). Resolving to achieve professional success without compromising her ethics, Lucy embarks on a ruthless game of one-upmanship against Josh, a rivalry that is impossibly complicated by her growing attraction to him. 

Torres will star as a co-CEO of two recently merged publishing houses where Lucy and Josh work.

Torres currently stars in and co-executive produces USA Network’s Pearson, the Torres-pitched spinoff of the network’s hit series Suits.

Thorne Signs with Creative Artists Agency (CAA)

The 18-year-old half Cuban American actress/singer and former Disney Channel star has signed with the Creative Artists Agency (CAA).

The move comes as Thorne, who has been branching out fast into feature films as both an actress and producer, just finished filming Midnight Sun opposite Patrick Schwarzenegger, Tyler Perry’s Boo! A Madea Halloween and The Babysitter with Robbie Amell and directed by McG.

On the TV side, her Freeform pilot Famous in Love, adapted by Marlene King, has landed a series order.

Her recent credits include the SXSW pic Shovel Buddies, which she also produced, and Thorne now is in production on a second Awesomeness Films movie, You Get Me, in which she will also star and produce. She is voicing a role in Focus Features’ animated Ratchet and Clank and over the summer will begin production on Xavier Dolan’s The Death and Life of John F. Donovan.

She had been repped by WME.

Thorne has 11.3 million Instagram followers, 9.9 million Facebook fans and 6.3 million Twitter followers. She also has a novel, Autumn Falls, and another, Autumn’s Kiss, coming in the fall.

The 17-year-old half-Cuban American actress/singer and former Disney Channel star has released a teaser trailer for her latest film The DUFF.

Thorne released the clip on her Instagram account, offering a sneak peek at the overconfident crowd and the insecure outcasts crossing paths in a high school.

“I am beyond thrilled to show you the teaser trailer for #TheDUFF,” gushes the actress who plays the popular girl. “This was such an incredible experience with the most talented people in the business. Book and script are so engaging and funny.”

Adapted from Kody Keplinger‘s novel of the same name, it follows Bianca (Mae Whitman) who is known as “Designated Ugly Fat Friend” to her prettier, more popular friends. She enlists Wesley (Robbie Amell), a slick but charming jock, to help her reinvent herself and and overthrow the school’s ruthless label maker Madison (Thorne).

The film will open in North American theaters starting April 10, 2015.

Santos to Star Opposite Bella Thorne in CBS Films’ Teen Comedy “The DUFF”

The Cuban- and Brazilian-American actress has joined the cast of CBS Films’ upcoming teen comedy The DUFF, which will also star Bella Thorne.

Directed by Ari Sandel, the film is an adaptation of the Kody Keplinger’s young adult novel The DUFF: (Designated Ugly Fat Friend).

Mae Whitman stars in the comedy about contented high schooler named Bianca, whose world is shattered when she discovers the student body knows her as ‘The Duff’ (Designated Ugly Fat Friend). She reinvents herself, setting out to overthrow the school’s reigning queen bee.

Santos,who starred on the first season ofABC Family’s The Fosters, will portray one of Bianca’s more popular friends.

Thorne will star as Bianca’s ruthless rival Madison.

Ken Jeong is set to play her favorite teacher, with Nick Eversman playing Bianca’s crush and Robbie Amell as a slick and charming jock she enlists for her grand scheme.

 

Josh Cagan adapted the script from Keplinger’s novel.

Vega to Guest Star on the CW’s “Tomorrow People”

The 25-year-old half-Colombian American actress, who recently tied the knot with Big Time Rush’s Carlos Pena, Jr., will be making her debut on the CW’s Tomorrow People next week.

Vega, best known for her role as Carmen Cortez in the Spy Kids film series, will portray Hillary Cole on the sci-fi show’s January 22 episode.

Vega’s character is described as a new recruit who goes head-to-head with Stephen (Robbie Amell) to see who will make it to the next stage of agent training. Unfortunately, the loser gets stripped of their powers, and Hillary will stop at nothing to win.

“She beats the crap out of me,” Amell tells TVGuide.com. “She messes Stephen up. She’s conniving. She’s doing anything she can for herself. She does not care about the people around her.”

Tomorrow People, which centers follows a group of young people who possess psionic powers as the result of human evolution, airs Wednesdays at 9/8c on the CW.
