José María Yazpik to Star in Netflix’s New Series “The Gringo Hunters”

The 53-year-old Mexican actor has been cast in Netflix’s new series The Gringo Hunters, which has begun production in Mexico City.

José María Yazpik,In addition to Yazpik, who starred on Netflix’s Narcos, is among a roster of cast members that includes Sebastian Roché, Harold Torres and Mayra Hermosillo.

Plans to shoot in Tijuana are also in place.

Torres and Hermosillo are part of the gringo hunters’ core group alongside Manuel Masalva, Andrew Leland Rogers, Héctor Kotsifakis, Dagoberto Gama and Regina Nava. Gerardo Trejoluna and Paulina Dávila also star.

All 11 are contracted as series regulars on the bilingual crime series, which will be shot mostly in Spanish with some English.

The series is based on The Washington Post story “A U.S. murder suspect fled to Mexico. The Gringo Hunters were waiting,” by Kevin Sieff.

The series is inspired by a real elite Mexican police unit that catches American fugitives on the run to Mexico.

The series will be coming to Netflix in 2025 and promises to delve into the reality of the International Liaison Unit, with mysteries to solve, suspense, twists and turns and the challenges and intrigue faced by this type of police operation.

Directors include Adrián Grünberg, Alonso Álvarez, Jimena Montemayo and Natalia Beristáin.

The project is produced by Woo Films and Redrum in co-production with Imagine Entertainment and in association with The Washington Post. Luis Rosales, who was behind casting for Alfonso Cuarón’s Roma, served as casting director. Netflix will announce writers at a later time.

Since its formation in 2002, the real “gringo hunters” have apprehended over 1,600 fugitives  — ranging from murderers on the FBI’s “Ten Most Wanted” list to billionaires accused of securities fraud.

Netflix Releases Trailer for the Upcoming Anthology Series “Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities”

Guillermo del Toro is sharing some scary stories.

Netflix has revealed the first trailer for “Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities,” an upcoming anthology series created by the 57-year-old Mexican Oscar-winning director of The Shape of Water and Pan’s Labyrinth.

Guillermo del ToroEach episode will tell a different horror story “curated” by del Toro, who hosts the series and introduces each episode.

Two of the episodes feature stories developed by del Toro, with different writers and directors taking on each episode.

Notable directors and writers who will contribute to the series include Jennifer Kent, David Pryor, Guillermo Navarro, Keith Thomas, Panos Cosmatos, Catherine Hardwicke, Vincenzo Natali and Ana Lily Amirpour (“A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night”).

The teaser shows a series of unsettling images, and reveals the cast list for the episodes.

Alongside previously announced names like Ben Barnes, Essie Davis, Crispin Glover and Andrew Lincoln, the teaser confirms that Eric André, Sofia Boutella, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Rupert Grint, Kate Micucci and Charlyne Yi will star in episodes of the show’s first season.

Other actors who were previously announced include F. Murray Abraham, Luke Roberts, Tim Blake Nelson, Hannah Galway, Glynn Turman, Elpidia Carrillo, Demetrius Grosse, Sebastian Roché, Peter Weller and David Hewlett.

Del Toro serves as co-showrunner of “Cabinet of Curiosities” with J. Miles Dale. The two executive produce alongside Gary Ungar. Regina Corrado co-executive produces.

A release date for “Cabinet of Curiosities” has not yet been announced.

Elpidia Carrillo to Star on Netflix’s Upcoming Anthology Series “Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities”

The 60-year-old Mexican actress and director will appear in Netflix’s upcoming anthology series Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities, which is set to premiere next year.

Meanwhile, Guillermo Navarro, Panos Cosmatos, Jennifer Kent and Vincenzo Natali will write and direct single episodes of the series, which has been retitled from Guillermo del Toro Presents 10 After Midnight.

Production has begun in Toronto on creator, EP and co-showrunner del Toro’s collection of live-action stories that Netflix says is meant to challenge our traditional notions of horror. From macabre to magical, gothic to grotesque or classically creepy, the eight sinister tales — including two original works by del Toro — will be brought to life by a team of writers and directors personally chosen by the Shape of Water Oscar-winning filmmaker.

Additional episode directors include Ana Lily Amirpour, Catherine Hardwicke, David Prior and Keith Thomas, and writers include Haley Z. Boston, Regina Corrado, David S. Goyer, Lee Patterson, Aaron Stewart-Ahn and Mika Watkins.

Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities is created and executive produced by del Toro and executive produced by Oscar winner J. Miles Dale, who also serves as co-showrunner, and Gary Ungar. Regina Corrado serves as co-EP.

Antonio Banderas to Star as Pablo Picasso in National Geographic’s Anthology Series “Genius”

The 57-year-old Spanish actor will portray Pablo Picasso in the second season of National Geographic’s anthology series Genius.

Banderas will share the role of Picasso with Alex Rich.

Genius will chronicle the life and work of the acclaimed Spanish painter, one of the 20th century’s most influential and celebrated artists.

In addition, Clémence Poésy, Robert Sheehan, Poppy Delevingne, Aisling Franciosi and Sebastian Roché .

The new season, set for a 2018 premiere, is from Fox 21 Television Studios, and will again be executive produced by Brian Grazer and Ron Howard’s Imagine Entertainment, OddLot Entertainment and EUE/Sokolow.

Showrunner, executive producer and writer Ken Biller returns for the new season.

Production begins this month and will shoot in cities throughout Europe for the 10-episode anthology series.

Cámara to Star in Paolo Sorrentino’s Eight-Episode Series “The Young Pope”

The 48-year-old Spanish actor has been cast in Paolo Sorrentino’s The Young Pope.

Starring Jude Law and Diane Keaton, the eight-episode series that tells the fictional story of the beginning of the Pontificate of Pius XIII, an Italian-American born Lenny Belardo.

Law is Pius XIII/Lenny with Keaton as Sister Mary, a nun from the U.S. The plot centers on the controversial story of the beginning of Pius’ Pontificate. A complex and conflicted character, he is a man of great power who’s stubbornly resistant to the Vatican courtiers, unconcerned with the implications on his authority.

Cámara, who starred in the Pedro Almodóvar films Talk to Her and Bad Education, is set to play Cardinal Gutierrez, Vatican City Master of Ceremonies.

Other cast members include James Cromwell as Cardinal Michael Spencer, Silvio Orlando (The Caiman) as Secretary of State Cardinal Voiello, Scott Shepherd (And So It Goes) as Cardinal Dussolier and Belgian actress Cécile de France (The Kid With A Bike) as Sofia, who is in charge of marketing in Vatican City.

Swimming Pool‘s Ludivine Sagnier is Esther, the wife of a Swiss guard; and Toni Bertorelli (Passion Of The Christ) has been cast as Cardinal Caltanissetta.

Sorrentino, who won the Foreign Language Oscar for The Greaty Beauty and helmed this year’s Cannes Film Festival entry Youth, is directing all eight episodes of The Young Pope.

Sorrentino says the series will cover “The clear signs of God’s existence. The clear signs of God’s absence. How faith can be searched for and lost. The greatness of holiness, so great as to be unbearable when you are fighting temptations and when all you can do is to yield to them. The inner struggle between the huge responsibility of the Head of the Catholic Church and the miseries of the simple man that fate (or the Holy Spirit) chose as Pontiff. Finally, how to handle and manipulate power in a state whose dogma and moral imperative is the renunciation of power and selfless love towards one’s neighbor.”

Additional cast members include: Guy Boyd, Andre Gregory, Sebastian Roché, Marcello Romolo, Ignazio Oliva, Vladimir Bibic and Nadie Kammalaweera.

Production on the SkyHBO and Canal Plus drama began last week with the full cast now set.

Consuelos to Star in the Film “A Walk Among the Tombstones”

Mark Consuelos is quite the busy bee these days…

The 41-year-old half-Mexican American actor, who is starring in Amazon Studios’ politically themed comedy pilot Alpha House, has been cast in the film A Walk Among the Tombstones.

Starring Liam Neeson, the  Universal Pictures thriller  is based on contemporary author Lawrence Block’s 1992 novel of the same name.

Neeson will portray Block’s long-standing detective anti-hero Matthew Scudder as he tries to solve a string of kidnappings and murders targeting the wives of prominent drug traffickers.

The film, which co-stars Dan Stevens, Sebastian Roche and Ruth Wilson, began principal photography this week in New York.
