NBC Acquires U.S. broadcast rights to EuropaCorp Television‘s “Taxi Brooklyn,” Starring José Zúñiga

NBC has acquired the U.S. broadcast rights to EuropaCorp Television‘s action/comedy series Taxi Brooklyn, starring the Honduran-born American actor.

The 12-episode series, based on Luc Besson‘s Taxi feature film franchise, stars Grey’s Anatomy alumna Chyler Leigh and Inglourious BasterdsJacky Ido.

Leigh portrays Detective Caitlyn “Cat” Sullivan, who is determined to find out the truth about the death of her father, an New York PD detective who was killed in the line of duty. When her stubborn character and recklessness behind the wheel see her demoted to foot patrol, she teams with the highly skilled and charming Marseille-born cabbie Leo Romba. Realizing Leo lied on his immigration form, Cat offers him a deal: in exchange for his driving prowess and taxi, she will help Leo with his papers situation. He becomes her personal driver and police consultant as they race through the streets of New York City solving cases.

Formerly known as Taxi: Brooklyn South, Taxi Brooklyn was shot in English in the titular borough along with Manhattan and Queens.

No word on Zúñiga’s character in the series, which NBC plans to debut the series this summer.

Former Blue Bloods co-star Jennifer Esposito, Ally Walker, James Colby, Bill Heck and Raul Casso round out the cast.

The series hails from EuropaCorp Television with the participation of France’s TF1 which starts airing the series April 14.

Zúñiga’s previous television credits include 24, Prison Break, CSI: Miami, The Event, Scandal, Person of Interest and Dexter.

Collins Jr. to Star in ABC’s Drama Pilot “Secrets & Lies”

The 43-year-old Mexican and Spanish American actor has signed on to co-star alongside Ryan Phillippe, Juliette Lewis and KaDee Strickland in ABC’s drama pilot Secrets & Lies.

The project centers on Ben (Phillippe), a family man who becomes the prime suspect in the murder of a young boy when he finds the body.

Collins, who appeared on the network’s short-lived drama Red Widow last season, will portray Ben’s childhood friend and the tenant in Ben’s pool house who is unwaveringly supportive of Ben.

Collins most recently starred in Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim and guest-starred on NBC’s The Blacklist. His other television credits include The Event, Southland and Alias.

He’ll next appear opposite Johnny Depp in Transcendence.

Morales Lands Presidential Role on HBO’s Pilot “The Brink”

Esai Morales’ next project will have him on the brink of political greatness…

The 51-year-old Puerto Rican actor has landed a co-starring a role in the HBO pilot The Brink.

Directed by Jay Roach from a script by Roberto Benabib and Kim Benabib, The Brink is an epic dark comedy focusing on a geopolitical crisis and its effect on three disparate and desperate men: U.S. Secretary of State Walter Hollander (Tim Robbins); Alex Coppins (Jack Black), a lowly Foreign Service officer; and Zeke Callahan (Pablo Schreiber), an ace Navy fighter pilot.

Morales will portray Julian Navarro, the President of the United States.

While the U.S. is yet to elect a Hispanic president, that has been a popular trend on television that has included Jimmy Smits’ Matt Santos on The West Wing and Blair Underwood’s Elias Martinez on The Event.

Morales, who most recently co-starred on the second season of Starz’s Magic City, recently wrapped a supporting role in George Lopez’s feature La Vida Robot and has a recurring role on CBSCriminal Minds.

ABC has officially announced the network’s midseason schedule, with the 42-year-old Mexican American actor’s much-anticipated new series Red Widow getting a prime spot.

Red Widow will inherit recently cancelled 666 Park Avenue’s post-Revenge slot on Sunday nights at 10:00 pm ET.

Starring Radha Mitchell and Goran Visnijc, Red Widow centers on a woman who following her husband’s murder is lured into his double life with the mob. Collins will star as FBI agent James Ramos.

This is Collins’ latest television project, following his starring role on NBC’s sci-fi drama The Event and guest-starring role on CSI: NY.

Zúñiga to Guest Star on “Burn Notice”

The Honduran-born American actor is set to appear on an upcoming episode of USA’s Burn Notice, according to TVLine.

Zúñiga will play Vasquez, a “clever and sadistic” cocaine smuggler who doesn’t shy away from torture. Zúñiga’s character will be introduced in Episode 11 of the sixth season.

It’s the latest television role for Zúñiga, who has appeared on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, the short-lived NBC series The Event and Desperate Housewives.

He most recently appeared as General Benicio Flores on ABC’s new Shonda Rimes series Scandal.

In addition, Zúñiga has appeared on the big screen in Alive, Con Air and Twilight.

Burn Notice airs Thursdays at 9/8c on USA.

Collins to Star in ABC’s “Red Widow”

Clifton Collins Jr. is headed to the Alphabet Network.

The half-Mexican American actor has joined the cast of ABC’s Red Widow as a series regular.

Based on the Dutch series Penoza, the upcoming drama series centers on Marta Walraven (Radha Mitchell) who, after her gangster husband is brutally murdered by a rival cartel, takes on the gangsters and the FBI to unveil the truth about her husband’s death.

Collins, who most recently appeared on NBC’s sci-fi drama The Event, will play FBI agent James Ramos.

Collins was originally approached to play the role in the pilot episode, but wasn’t available. Mido Hamada was cast in the role, which is now being recast.

Collins recently wrapped production on two films: Guillermo del Toro’s feature Pacific Rim and the Taylor Hackford-directed Parker.

Vidal to Co-Star in BET’s “Being Mary Jane” Pilot

Lisa Vidal could be playing Gabrielle Union’s BFF on television in the near future…

The 46-year-old Puerto Rican American actress will co-star opposite Union in BET’s hour-long pilot Being Mary Jane, which was formerly called Single Black Female.

The project centers on Union’s character Mary Jane Paul, a successful talk show host looking to one day become the No.1 nightly news anchor while searching for Mr. Right.

Vidal—who most recently appeared in FX’s instahit series American Horror Story and last co-starred in NBC’s The Event—will play Kara, the lead producer for Mary Jane’s show and Mary Jane’s friend.
