Aitor Arregi, Jon Garaño and Jose Mari Goenaga are heading to the big leagues…

The Spanish directing trio, whose acclaimed film The Endless Trench is representing Spain in this year’s Oscar race, have signed with The Gotham Group.

Set at the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War, the film chronicles three decades of a country engulfed by fascism.

The film premiered at the San Sebastian Film Festival last year and Netflix acquired the global rights shortly after; the streamer debuted the film in the U.S. on November 6.

It received 15 Goya nominations, winning Best Director and the Jury Prize for Best Screenplay.

Arregi, Garaño and Goenaga have been working together for 15 years through their company Moriarti; this is the first time they have co-directed as a trio.

Their previous credits include Handia, which won 10 Goyas, and Loreak (Flowers), which was Spain’s entry for the 2016 Oscars.

They are now developing their English-language debut, which Gotham will launch to buyers in 2021.

Eduardo Franco to Star in the USA Network’s “Masters of Doom” Drama Pilot

Eduardo Franco has found a new Master-y…

The Mexican-American actor has been cast as one of the leads in USA Network’s Masters of Doom pilot, a drama based on David Kushner’s non-fiction book, from James and Dave Franco’s Ramona Films, The Gotham Group and UCP.

Franco will star opposite Patrick Gibson, John Karna, Jane Ackermannand Siobhan Williams in the project. Peter Friedman is set to recur, and Rhys Thomas has been tapped to direct.

Written and executive produced by Tom Bissell, Masters of Doom is the true story of two computer geniuses in an obscure corner of America who, along with a group of rebellious misfits, created one of the biggest franchise hits of the ’90s, the video game Doom. Franco and Gibson play best friends who became bitter rivals, as they created a video game empire and transformed pop culture forever.

Franco’s John Romero is a brilliant young programmer and designer determined to become the video game industry’s first rock star.

Franco is best known for his role as Theo in the Olivia Wilde-directed feature Booksmart, as well as his role as Jeremy in the feature The Package, directed by Jake Szymanski. 

Franco recurred on the first season of the series American Vandal, and his other television credits include Adam Ruins Everything, You’re the Worstand The Skinny. 

He’ll next be seen in feature The Binge directed by Jeremy Garelick. 

Klaudia Reynicke Signs with The Gotham Group

Klaudia Reynicke has new representation… And, she’s hoping that leads to a TV deal.

The 43-year-old Swiss-Peruvian filmmaker has signed with Los Angeles management and production outfit The Gotham Group.

Reynicke’s latest project Love Me Tender screened in the Toronto Film Festival’s Discovery strand this year, and now The Gotham Group plans to spearhead efforts to adapt the film into a television series.

Love Me Tender world premiered at Switzerland’s Locarno Film Festival in August. Reynicke also wrote the screenplay, which tells the story of Seconda, played by Barbara Giordano, a rebellious young woman with agoraphobia who is abruptly left alone by her unreliable father.

The film was produced by Switzerland’s Amka Films. Rome-based Summerside International is handling global sales. The feature will next screen at the BFI London Film Festival in October.

Reynicke’s debut feature was 2016 drama The Nest, which also premiered in Locarno. 

She was born in Peru but lived in Florida for much of her youth; she is now based in Switzerland.
