Roku Renews Jessica Alba’s “Honest Renovation” Series for Second Season

Roku is requesting more honest time from the 42-year-old half-Mexican American actress and entrepreneur.

The original series follows the pair as they renovate the homes of deserving families while having candid conversations about parenthood across eight one-hour episodes.

Production on Season 1 originally kicked off in late 2022.

Entertainment One (eOne) has sold its first Spanish language series Operación Marea Negra, starring the 42-year-old Spanish actor, to more than 60 territories including the U.S. and Mexico (Roku), Australia (SBS), Latin American (AMC Networks Intl), Canada (TELEUS) and Spain (Disney-owned FOX channel).

Álex González, Operación Marea Negra, The four-part series is based on the true story of Europe’s first intercepted narco-submarine in November 2019, when three smugglers crossed the Atlantic in a homemade sub-aquatic vessel carrying more than 3,000 kilos of cocaine. After boarding in the middle of the Amazon, they sailed to Europe while enduring terrible conditions including hunger, engine problems and storms before finally being captured on the Galician coast by the Civil Guard.

González stars as “Nando, the ex-boxer and leader of the pack who turns to trafficking when his other financial options dry up.”

Joining him are Nerea Barros, Nuno Lopes, Miquel Insua, Luis Zahera, Xosé Barato, Carles Francino, Manuel Manquiña, Lúcia Moniz, Luís Esparteiro, David Trejos, Leandro Firmino and Bruno Galiasso.

Daniel Calparsoro, Oskar Santos and João Maia directed the series.

The series is produced by Ficción Producciones. Mamen Quintas and Julio Casal executive produce alongside Ukbar Filmes. FORTA, led by TVG, and the Portuguese RTP co-produce.

A second season has already wrapped production and a companion, four-part docu-series, Operación Marea Negra: The Suicidal Mission is also available to license. It has already been licensed to The Roku Channel (U.S.), SBS (Australia), Ziggo (Netherlands) and Telus (Canada).

The 40-year-old Mexican American actress and entrepreneur will executive produce and host the home improvement series Honest Renovations for The Roku Channel alongside Lizzy Mathis.

Production will kick off later in 2022.

Honest Renovations is produced by High Noon Entertainment, Mexican Spitfire, and 3 Arts Entertainment.

Jennifer Lopez to Take Part in Revry’s QueerX Live! Special

Jennifer Lopez is bringing the star power to this year’s QueerX Live! special.

Revry and Pride Media will kick off the fifth annual music, film, and industry festival QueerX! with a special awards show, featuring the 51-year-old Puerto Rican superstar, on Sunday, October 11.

This year, the LGBTQ+ virtual cable TV network is celebrating National Coming Out Day with a star-studded award show that will include screenings of the category winners from the competition, musical performances, celebrity coming out stories, and the presentation of the 5th Annual Revery Visibility Awards, which honors public figures on the front lines of queer advocacy this year.

In addition to J.Lo, QueerX Live! will feature Angelica Ross, Carmen Carrera, Isiah Thomas, and more. It will premiere across 250+ millions households & devices on the Revry apps, which are available in all major app stores, and on its 11 live TV channels on mainstream platforms like Samsung TV Plus, The Roku Channel, Comcast, and more.

The show will also screen at a pandemic-safe, drive-in screening event, QueerX @ the Drive-In, a pop-up Drive-In in Downtown Los Angeles benefiting the community-focused non-profit, DTLA Proud, and featuring DJs, food and drink, as well as surprise guest performances.

QueerX Live! will also screen the three winners of the QueerX short film festival and will showcase performances by VINCINTROB.B., and the House of Balmain (the winners of season one of HBO Max‘s Legendary).

Other events include QueerX’s annual Powerhouse Industry Pitchfest, presented by Final Draft. On October 17, Revry is giving any creator the rare opportunity to pitch a project face-to-face with top industry producers and decision makers. Only 20 pitch slots are available with top pitches receiving the Final Draft product as prizes.
