Nicole Richie to Star in Indie Comedy “Summer Camp”

Nicole Richie is camping it up…

The 41-year-old half-Mexican American actress and fashion designer will star in the indie comedy Summer Camp from writer-director Castille Landon (After franchise).

Nicole RichieRichie joins a list of cast addutions that includes Beverly D’Angelo, Dennis Haysbert and Josh Peck.

Diane Keaton, Kathy Bates, Alfre Woodard and Eugene Levy will lead the ensemble, with Betsy Sodaro and Tom Wright rounding it out.

The film heading into production next month in North Carolina tells the story of Nora, Ginny and Mary, who have been best friends since childhood, spending their summers together inseparably at sleepaway camp. As the years have passed, they’ve seen each other less and less, so when the chance to reunite for a summer camp reunion arises, they all take it, some begrudgingly and others, excitedly. Each of their lives might not be where they’d imagined, but one thing is for sure — Nora, Ginny and Mary need each other, and summer camp reminds them why.

Summer Camp is a Saks Picture Company production, in association with and financed by Taylor & Dodge and Grant S. Johnson’s Project Infinity.

She’s additionally been seen on narrative series like Bless This MessGrace and FrankieCamping and Empire, as well as such reality series as Making the Cut, Candidly Nicole, Project Runway and The Simple Life.

Richie to Star on NBC’s Upcoming Comedy Series “Great News”

There’s a little Great News for Nicole Richie

The 34-year-old part-Mexican American television personality and fashionista will star in NBC‘s forthcoming comedy Great News in a recasting, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Inspired by the life of Tracey Wigfield, the comedy centers on a mother-daughter relationship that is challenged when an overly involved New Jersey mom (Andrea Martin) interns at her daughter’s (Briga Heelan) workplace, a cable news network.

The Simple Life alum has been tapped to play Portia, the role originally played by Kimrie Lewis-Davis in the pilot.

Producers are said to have wanted to go in a different direction with the role. Portia is the hip, young co-host of The Breakdown, the cable news show within Great News. Sometimes a shrewd social media genius, sometimes a clueless idiot, Portia has little interest in her older co-host’s (John Michael Higgins) hard-hitting traditional vision for the show.

Written by Wigfield, the 30 Rock alum exec produces the Universal Television single-camera comedy alongside Tina Fey and Robert Carlock.

Beth McCarthy Miller directed the pilot for the series, which is due to bow midseason.

It’s Richie’s first scripted series-regular television role following reality television work on The Simple Life and Candidly Nicole as well as guest-acting appearances on NBC’s Chuck, The New Normal and Fox‘s Empire.

Additionally, VH1 has signed a first look/development deal with Richie’s Honey Child Prods.

The reality series #CandidlyNicole, produced by Telepictures and World of Wonder, is based on Richie’s popular AOL online series of the same name, which in turn was based on Richie’s irreverent Twitter feed.

“Nicole’s sharp, acerbic sense of humor and broad audience appeal make #CandidlyNicole a perfect fit for the VH1 brand,” said Susan Levison, VH1’s EVP Original Programming & Development. “Viewers will enjoy her unique point of view and earnest look at pop culture as well as her fearless exploration of anything and everything taboo.”

#CandidlyNicole marks Richie’s first reality starring vehicle since Fox’s The Simple Life, the show that made her a household name.

According to VH1, it will “detail her daily adventures and give insight into her decisions on style, relationships, her work life and her journey to adulthood.”

Richie’s “Fashion Star” Returning to NBC

It looks like Nicole Richie has the magic touch, especially when it comes to reality shows…

The 30-year-old part-Mexican reality-TV-star-turned-style-icon—who rose to fame after starring in Fox’s reality series The Simple Life—will be returning to NBC for a second cycle of Fashion Star.

NBC's Fashion Star

The network has renewed the freshman reality after its midseason run generated modest but steady ratings.

The series follows designers competing for a chance to sell their garments in three retailers—Macy’s, Saks Fifth Avenue, H&M—with each vendor having a presence at the buyers’ table. Each episodes’ winning designs are available online and in retailers immediately following their air date.

Richie, Jessica Simpson and John Varvatos serve as mentors and judges, with Elle Macpherson playing both host and executive producers.

Fashion Star premiered in March to 4.55 million total viewers and a 1.6 rating among adults 18-49. It grew to a 1.8 in its second week, though subsequent airings have found it averaging closer to a 1.5.
