Gina Rodriguez’s got back

The 36-year-old Puerto Rican actress and Golden Globe winner has been cast in the ensemble romantic comedy I Want You Back from Amazon Studios.

Gina Rodriguez

The former Jane The Virgin star joins a cast that includes Charlie DayJenny SlateScott Eastwood, Manny Jacinto and Clark Backo.

Jason Orley is attached to direct the film from a screenplay by Love, Simon co-writers and This Is Us co-showrunners Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger.

Jami Gertz, Jordan Carlos, Midori Francis, Mason Gooding, Isabel May, and Luke David Blumm round out the cast as production is slated to commence next month in Atlanta.

The film follows Emma (Slate) and Peter (Day) who thought they were on the precipice of life’s biggest moments – marriage, kids, and houses in the suburbs – until their respective partners dumped them. With no prospects on the horizon and the threat of dying alone hanging over their heads, they hatch a desperate plan to put an end to their exes’ new relationships and win them back.

Orley, who will mark his second directorial outing, said “I immediately fell in love with Isaac and Elizabeth’s funny, heartfelt script and I am so honored that they, along with the amazing team at Amazon are allowing me to bring their timeless love story to life and that I get to do it with such an incredible group of actors.”

Selena Gomez to Star Opposite Steve Martin & Martin Short in Hulu’s Comedy Series “Only Murders in the Building”

Selena Gomez is teaming up with two comedy legends…

The 28-year-old Mexican American singer/actress, who rose to acclaim as the star of the Disney Channel’s Wizards of Waverly Place, will star alongside Steve Martin and Martin Short in Hulu‘s straight-to-series comedy Only Murders in the Building.

Selena Gomez

Ordered to series in January, the comedy created and written by Martin and John Hoffman revolves around three strangers who share an obsession with true crime who suddenly find themselves wrapped up in one.

Gomez will play the third stranger alongside Short and Martin.

In addition to her co-starring role, Gomez will also executive produce the series alongside Martin, Hoffman, Short, This Is Uscreator Dan Fogelman and Jess Rosenthal. It marks Gomez’s latest executive-producing gig following Netflix‘s 13 Reasons Why and the documentary Living Undocumented.

Only Murders in the Building is Gomez’s latest acting role following her roles in Woody Allen’s A Rainy Day in New York and The Dead Don’t Die. Her other film credits include Spring Breakers, The Big Short, Monte Carlo and Fundamentals of Caring.

Gomez will next appear on HBO Max in her new cooking-while-quarantined series Selena + Chef, which will begin streaming later this month.

Hulu Renews Michael Cimino’s “Love, Victor” for a Second Season

There’s more love in Michael Cimino’s future…

Hulu has ordered a second season of its breakout new series Love, Victor, starring the 20-year-old half-Puerto Rican actor.

Love, Victor

The series, an offshoot of the 2018 feature Love, Simon, ranked as the No. 1 most-watched drama on Hulu during its premiere week in June when all episodes were released together.

The series hails from This Is Usexecutive producers/co-showrunners Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, who wrote the movie based on Becky Albertalli’s young adult novel Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda.

Love, Victor migrated to Hulu after being originally developed at Disney+.

The first season followed Victor (Cimino), a new student at Creekwood High School, on his own journey of self-discovery, facing challenges at home, adjusting to a new city and exploring his sexual orientation. As Victor and his friends mature, so will season two, promising to build on these themes of sexual identity, acceptance and navigating the odyssey we all know as high school.

In addition to Cimino, the series also stars Ana Ortiz, James Martinez, Isabella Ferreira, Mateo Fernandez, Rachel Naomi Hilson, Bebe Wood, George Sear, Anthony Turpel and Mason Gooding.

20th Century Fox Television is the studio.

Hulu to Stream Michael Cimino’s LGBTQ-Themed Series “Love, Victor”

Michael Cimino’s Love is headed to Hulu

Love, Victor, starring the half-Puerto Rican actor, is moving from Disney+ to the Disney-controlled Hulu streaming service. It will debut in June, during LGBTQ Pride month.

Michael Cimino

The half-hour comedy, inspired by the acclaimed film Love, Simon, has been re-titled Love, Victor after its protagonist.

The series, from This Is Us executive producers/co-showrunners Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, who wrote the film, and 20th Century Fox Television, just wrapped production on its 10-episode first season.

Hulu appears bullish on the show and has already commissioned a writers’ room to start exploring stories for a possible second season.

Hailed for its LGBTQ inclusivity, the 2018 Love, Simon, based on Becky Albertalli’s young adult novel Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda, is a coming-of-age film about Simon, a closeted gay teen growing up in the suburbs of Atlanta.

The series centers on Victor (Cimino), a new student at Creekwood High School, the high school featured in the movie, on his own journey of self-discovery, facing challenges at home, adjusting to a new city, and struggling with his sexual orientation.

Love, Victor’s move from Disney+ to Hulu mirrors a similar relocation from Disney+ to Hulu of another series based on a movie, High Fidelity, headlined by Zoë Kravitz

Both involve realistic portrayal of issues faced by young adults that may not be appropriate for families to watch with their young kids, something that has become imperative for a Disney+ program.

Love, Victordepicts alcohol use, parents’ marital issues and sexual exploration. At Hulu, it will join several other comedic series with drama elements about teens in high school, including fellow Hulu originals PEN15 and Looking For Alaskaand Freeform’s Grown-ish,which streams on Hulu.

Julian Silva to Appear on Season 4 of NBC’s “This Is Us”

Julian Silva is no longer a stranger

NBC has revealed several brand new cast members for This Is Us Season 4—including the Latino actor—seen in a new promo trailer for the special extended premiere episode entitled “Strangers”.

Julian Silva

In addition to Silva, other newcomers include Asante BlackkMarsha Stephanie BlakeM. Night Shyamalan,Bahara GolestaniTimothy OmundsonAuden ThorntonNick Wechslerand Omar Epps.

The details of their roles aren’t yet known, but it appears that Blake may be playing Blackk’s mother—in the clip we see her kiss his cheek—while Epps may be his father, since we see the pair working together as car mechanics.

Jennifer Morrison’s major recurring role was already made official in July, and while its significance remains under wraps, the trailer gives us a few more breadcrumbs. She’s shown in a modern-day military uniform seated at a desk with a framed photo of a father who could be Kevin (Justin Hartley), with a young son. And of course, we already know from the Season 3 finale flash forward that Kevin will have a son.

The trailer opens with Rebecca (Mandy Moore) and Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) in a car. Following her first Emmy nomination for this role in July, Moore told Deadline of the Season 4 beginning: “Myself and Milo, we’re picking up where we left off after that fateful road trip out to California. We just arrived back in Pittsburgh and we’re trying to figure out how we move forward with our relationship and meet each other’s respective families.”

In the trailer, a young Rebecca tells Jack: “It’s actually kind of terrifying how a single cross with one person who you’ve never met can change everything.” It’s not clear to whom this foreboding speech refers, but as the clip flicks through the faces of the new cast members, in classic This Is Us style, Rebecca’s musing is likely to be the thread that draw together a series of different stories and timelines.

We see Griffin Dunne, who has previously played the older version of Nicky, while Ron Cephas Jonesis also set to resume the role of William, Randall Pearson (Sterling K. Brown)’s ill-fated father—a turn that won Jones his third Emmy nom this year (he won in 2018).

The clip also provides glimpses of other previous cast members, confirmed by NBC as returning this season. There’s Cosby Show veteran Phylicia Rashad as Carol, Beth (Susan Kelechi Watson)’s mother, Tim Jo as Randall’s campaign manager Jae-won Yoo, Elizabeth Perkins as Janet Malone, the racist mother of Rebecca (Mandy Moore), and Caitlin Thompson will resume her role of Madison, Kate (Chrissy Metz)’s friend.

This Is Us Season 4 will premiere on September 24 on NBC.
