Freeform Releases Trailer for Season 3 of Francia Raisa’s “grown-ish”

Could Francia Raisa be in for a big surprise?

Freeformhas released the first teaser for the third season of its hit comedy series grown-ish, starring the 31-year-old Mexican and Honduran American actress. And, it looks like someone will be heading into their junior year with an unexpected surprise.

The spot reveals quite a bit in just 15 seconds. It opens with someone sitting on a toilet taking a pregnancy test. The person then throws the test on the floor revealing a + sign, and then exclaims “Oh! S***!’

Picking up after season 2’s finale cliffhanger, the gang returns as confident, eager and seasoned upper-classmen, with Zoey (Yara Shahidi) and her girls (… and Vivek) moving into an off-campus home, ready to take on the school year. They quickly realize that they have been mistaken about the disillusionment of adulthood, with real-life problems coming for them, including student loans, work/ life balance and, of course, messy breakups. Plus, the season premiere picks up with some of the crew having to deal with the repercussions of their big mistakes before summer break.

The 30-year-old  Cuban-American actor has landed a recurring role on the upcoming third season of Grown-ishFreeform’s popular comedy spinoff from ABC’s Black-ish

Grown-ishis a contemporary take on the issues that students face in the world of higher education, and follows Zoey (Yara Shahidi) and her friends as they return to CalU with confidence and swagger. Learning from the ups and downs of their freshman year, they all think they’ve got their second year on lock, but quickly realize that they’re not as grown as they think. 

The cast also includes Luka SabbatTrevor Jackson, Francia RaisaEmily ArlookJordan Buhat, Chloe BaileyHalle BaileyDeon Cole, and recently upped-to-series-regular Diggy Simmons.

Esteve will play Javier, a gorgeous grad student whom Ana (Raisa) interns with at Cal U. A well-educated Cuban Republican activist, Javi is able to cross party lines with his unwavering morals and his James Deanmystique. Despite having everything in common on paper, Ana will find that Javi challenges her in a way she never expected — both in the workplace and out.

Esteve had a recurring role on Amazon’s Homecomingand most recently appeared on the Syfy pilot(Future) Cult Classic. Hit other credits include appearances on Revengeand NCIS.

Freeform has set a January premiere date for the new season of Grown-ish, which features the 31-year-old Mexican and Honduran American actress in the ensemble cast.

The Season 3 premiere of the Black-ish spinoff will serve as the lead-in for the network’s new comedy Everything’s Gonna Be Okayat 8:00 pm on Thursday, January 16.

The gang returns as confident, eager and seasoned upper-classmen, with Zoey and her girls (… and Vivek) moving into an off-campus home, ready to take on the school year. Freeform has announced the midseason return of Grown-ishstarring the 30-year-old Mexican and Honduran American actress.

Grown-ish, a spinoff of Freeform corporate sibling ABC’s Black-ish, will kick off the second half of its Season 2 at 8:00 pm on Wednesday, June 5. 

After the cliffhanger spring finale, Zoey (Yara Shahidi) and her friends find themselves at dramatic crossroads in their relationships, academics and adulthood. Topics explored in the new episodes will include cultural appropriation, mental health, academic scandal and more.

Freeform has ordered a third season of its critically praised series grown-ish, starring the 30-year-old Mexican and Honduran American actress.

The renewal comes amid strong ratings for the spinoff of ABC’s Black-ish. Season to date, grown-ish ranks as the No. 1 comedy on cable among women 18-49 and females 12-34. The series also ranks among this season’s Top 3 cable comedies with women 18-34 (No. 2), adults 18-34 (No. 3) and persons 12-34 (No. 3).

Freeform has announced that the second season of Grown-ish, starring the 30-year-old Mexican and Honduran American actress, will premiere on January 2 at 8:00 pm ET.

Following their freshman year, Zoey (Yara Shahidi) and her friends are returning for their second year at CalU, during which they’ll soon discover they still have a lot to learn.

Returning alongside Shahidi and Raisa, who portrays Zoey’s roommate Ana Torres, are Trevor Jackson, Emily Arlook, Jordan Buhat, Chloe and Halle Bailey, Luka Sabbat and Deon Cole.

Esai Morales to Star in Sony Pictures’ “Superfly” Remake

Esai Morales’ career is soaring to new heights…

The 55-year-old Puerto Rican actor will star in the Director X-helmed Superfly remake from Sony Pictures, which will debut in theaters June 15.

Morales will portray play Adalberto.

The Alex Tse-penned script is based on the 1972 original blaxploitation crime drama, which followed an African American cocaine dealer who tries to secure one more deal before getting out of the business.

Morales joins a cast that includes Trevor Jackson, Jason MitchellLex Scott Davis, Andrea Londo, Jacob Ming-Trent, Omar Chapparo, and Allen Maldonado.

Joel Silver is producing the film with rap star Future, who is also putting together the film’s soundtrack.

Morales, who currently stars on ABC’s How To Get Away With Murder, rose to acclaim in the Richie Valens biopic La Bamba. He’s also appeared in PBSAmerican Family, Showtime’s Resurrection Blvd., NYPD Blue and Caprica.

The 29-year-old Honduran and Mexican American actress has joined the cast of Freeform’s Grown-ish, the spinoff of ABC’s acclaimed sitcom Black-ish.

Grown-ish, from Black-ish executive producer Kenya Barris, is a contemporary take on the current issues facing both students and administrators in the world of higher education. Yara Shahidi portrays Zoey – Dre (Anthony Anderson) and Rainbow’s (Tracee Ellis Ross) popular, entitled, stylish and socially active 17-year-old daughter — as she heads off to college and quickly discovers that not everything goes her way once she leaves the nest.

Raisa will portray Ana, an outspoken conservative freshman at Southern California University.

Raisa joins previously announced cast members Shahidi, Deon Cole, Chris Parnell, Emily Arlook and Trevor Jackson.

The 13-episode comedy series is set to start production next week for an early 2018 premiere on Freeform.

Raisa, who rose to acclaim on The Secret Life of the American Teenager, previously appeared on Dear White People, The Mindy Project and In Plain Sight.

Nolasco’s “American Crime” to Premiere on January 6 on ABC

Elvis Nolasco is ringing in the New Year with a little Crime

ABC has slated John Ridley’s American Crime, starring the Dominican actor, to premiere on January 6.

The second season of the critically acclaimed series will return for a second season on a new night, Wednesday, where it will air in Nashville’s 10:00 pm time slot while the country music drama is on winter hiatus. 

American Crime‘s second season is set in the U.S. Midwest at two high schools, one public and one private.

The first season of the show, which followed a racially charged murder and the subsequent trial, aired in the Thursday 10 PM slot, succeeding How To Get Away With Murder, which has shorter (18-episode) seasons per star Viola Davis’ contract.

This season, the plan is to keep the Shondaland branding on the night intact with the latest Shonda Rhimes-produced drama, The Catch, following HTGAWM in the 10:00 pm hour.

In Season 2, issues of sexual orientation and socioeconomic disparity come to a boil when lurid photos of a high school boy are posted on social media following a school party. Circumstances become more complicated when the boy accuses two players on an elite private high school’s championship basketball team of drugging, assaulting and then posting the pictures of him online.

Many of the Season 1 cast members are back, including stars Felicity Huffman and Timothy Hutton, as well as co-stars Regina King — who won an Emmy for her role — Lili Taylor and Nolasco, who are joined by Trevor Jackson, Connor Jessup, Joey Pollari and Angelique Rivera.
