Fernández to Star in the Spanish-Language Thriller “Vulcania”

Spain’s rising star Miquel Fernández is about to thrill audiences in his next leading role…

The 34-year-old Spanish actor has been cast in the Spanish-language thriller Vulcania.

Fernandez will star opposite fellow Spanish talent Aura Garrido in the film, which is being produced by Zentropa.

Based on an original screenplay from Diego Soto, the film will be the directorial debut of Jose Skaf.

Zentropa Spain, Zentropa Sweden and France’s Film 1Vast will work together on the production.

The thriller-drama is set in an industrial dystopia from which nobody escapes, according to the film’s lead producer David Matamoros.

Vulcania is scheduled to start shooting in May in Spain and has attached two of the fastest-rising young Spanish actors to star.

Fernandez was previously featured in Family United and The End, while Garrido was in The Body and Stockholm.

The film project was part of the Paris-based showcase “Small is Biutiful”, backed by the Cannes Market. In Spain, the film has the support of public broadcasters TVE and TV3, the Spanish Film Institute, the Catalan Film Institute and Ibermedia, among others.

Cardinali, who earned critical acclaim for her work in Una Noche con Sabrina Love and Valentín, earned the Outstanding Actress prize in the miniseries category.

Produced by TVE/Copia Cero and directed by Agustí Villaronga, Carta a Eva was also named Best Miniseries.
