The 31-year-old Dominican American bachatasinger has reached the summit on Billboard’s Latin Airplay chart as “Carita de Inocente” rises 4-1 on the July 25 survey.

Royce’s song, which debuted on the tally at No. 33 on the March 14-dated list, reached No. 1 in its 20th week.

It completes the longest trip to the top of the chart in 2020, passing ReikFarruko and Camilo’s “Si Me Dices Que Si” and J Balvin’s “Blanco,” both which hit No. 1 in their 16th frame on the June 27- and March 21-dated charts, respectively.

The last song to take a slower route to No. 1 was Luis FonsiSebastian Yatra and Nicky Jam‘s “Date La Vuelta,” which hit No. 1 in its 22nd week, on the October 19, 2019 chart.

“I’m so grateful as well as proud that this bachata written in the Dominican Republic is the No. 1 song across all genres on Latin radio in the U.S. and Puerto Rico,” Royce tells Billboard.

With the song’s lift, Royce secures his 12th No. 1 on the Latin Airplay chart — and first of the year.

He last earned a No. 1 in September 2018 when “El Clavo,” with Maluma, landed at the penthouse in its 23rd week.

“Carita de Inocente” pushes up Latin Airplay with a 38 percent boost in audience impressions (to 12 million) earned in the week ending July 19, according to Nielsen Music.

The song is assisted by a bachata remix with Myke Towers, which was released June 3rd.

Beyond its Latin Airplay reign, “Carita de Inocente” continues atop the Tropical Airplay chart in its 18th week. It now stands in a three-way tie with Don Omar and Lucenzo’s “Danza Kuduro” and Aventura’s “Inmortal” for the most weeks at No. 1 on the chart, which began in 1994, all with 18 weeks on top.

“To tie for the 18-week tropical airplay all-time record is awesome,” Royce adds. “Myke Towers coming on board for the remix, really embracing it and rapping on a bachata was very cool and brought a different flavor to the song and to the genre.”

Royce has the third-most No. 1s on Tropical Airplay, trailing only Marc Anthony with 32 and Victor Manuelle with 27.

“Carita de Inocente” is the ninth single of Royce’s Alter Ego, his sixth studio album, which debuted at No. 1 on Top Latin Albums and at No. 67 on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart (Feb. 22 dated charts).
