Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You” Earns Second Week at No. 1 in Australia

The 52-year-old half-Venezuelan American Grammy-winning singer, the self-proclaimed Queen of Christmas, lives up to her nickname as her enduring holiday classic “All I Want For Christmas Is You” rings in Christmas as the No. 1 single in Australia.

Mariah CareyCarey’s single, released in 1994, earns a second consecutive week at the top Down Under, and a fifth year at No. 1 during the Christmas week, ARIA reports.

Although it’s peak summer in Australia, a time when Aussies head to the beach en masse, those wintry yuletide classics dominate playlists in these parts, a fact that’s reflected by both main ARIA Charts.

Four of the top 10 singles on the chart published December 23 are Christmas numbers, including Wham’s “Last Christmas” (up 6-3), Michael Bublé’s “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas” (up 11-5), Brenda Lee’s “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” (up 12-7) and Ariana Grande’s “Santa Tell Me” (up 15-8), while Bobby Helms’ ‘50s tune Jingle Bell Rock lifts 19-14. Also, Xmas singles from Kelly Clarkson, Andy Williams, The Ronettes, Band Aid, Sia, John & Yoko/Plastic Ono Band and Burl Ives impact the top 40.

Lin-Manuel Miranda is celebrating success Down Under…

The 42-year-old Puerto Rican composer/lyricist’s Encanto soundtrack tops the Australian albums chart in its eleventh week.

The soundtrack to the Disney animated film earns its first ARIA Chart crown, with three songs from the album impacting the singles survey: “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” (No. 8), “Surface Pressure” (No. 22) and “The Family Madrigal” (No. 50).

Encanto completes its climb to the summit after debuting at No. 29 at the start of January, before lifting into the Top 10 for the first time in its second week, and staying there ever since.

Carey’s iconic holiday single “All I Want For Christmas Is You” has risen to No. 1 on the Australian singles chart for the fourth successive year.

It’s an unprecedented fourth successive No. 1 for Carey’s Christmas classic, originally released back in 1994.

Unsurprisingly, the latest ARIA chart is swamped with festival songs, including Wham’s “Last Christmas” (up 9-2), Michael Bublé’s “It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas” (10-3), Ariana Grande’s “Santa Tell Me” (12-5), Brenda Lee’s “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree” (17-8), and Ed Sheeran & Elton John’s “Merry Christmas” (16-10).

According to ARIA, a string of holiday season numbers enter the ARIA Top 50 for the very first time: Chris Rea’s “Driving Home For Christmas” (No. 26), Shakin’ Stevens’ “Merry Christmas Everyone” (No. 27), Jose Feliciano’s “Feliz Navidad” (No. 28), Paul McCartney’s “Wonderful Christmastime” (No. 38), Dean Martin’s “Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!” (No. 42), Kylie Minogue’s “Santa Baby” (No. 44) and Michael Bublé’s “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas” (No. 48).

The 27-year-old Mexican American singer/actress’third solo album, Rare, becomes her first chart-topping album on Australia’s ARIA Charts.

It’s Gomez’s fifth album to appear on the ARIA Charts (3 solo, 2 as Selena & the Scene). It’s her third successive Top 10 album after Stars Dance(HP-8, July 2013) and Revival(HP-3, October 2015).

Three singles from the album have charted so far, with the album’s title track debuting at No.23 this week, while it was preceded by “Lose You to Love Me” (HP-2, TW-20) and “Look at Her Now” (HP-29, TW-84).
