The new film, which will be based on the book trilogy by Jenny Han, is now in development.

The casting news comes after Viacom CEO Bob Bakishconfirmed earlier this month that the sequel would be the first title in Paramount Pictures’ multi-picture deal with Netflix.

Awesomeness Films, acquired by Viacom earlier this year, produced the original and will produce the sequel, which returns with screenwriter Sofia Alvarez.
