Grupo Frontera Releases Debut Album “El Comienzo”

Grupo Frontera is starting something…

The Regional Mexican band has officially released their debut studio El Comienzo.

Grupo Frontera originally gained virality with their Morat cover of “No Se Va” and then took advantage of the momentum to release original music — which has earned them seven titles on the Billboard Hot 100, and 10 on the Hot Latin Songs chart (including a No. 1 hit).

Home to 11 tracks, the Rio Grande Valley-based group delivers a traditional norteño-cumbia set with some very heartfelt and relatable lyrics — mostly about love and heartbreak.

Most notable are the star-studded collaborations. For “Alta Voz,” Grupo Frontera brings back Junior H in his sad boy era, singing about missing someone and calling them despite the hour; in “Las Flores,” the band and Yahritza y Su Esencia’s second collaborative effort, we find an upbeat, ‘90s-inspired grupero melody backing a vocal about regretting falling in love; and on focus single “El Amor de Su Vida,” with Grupo Firme, a man makes his peace that the love of his life is with another person.

El Comienzo also includes previously released collabs “Que Vuelvas” with Carin León, “Ojitos Rojos” with Ke Personajes, and the Bad Bunny-assisted “Un X100to,” which peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 earlier this year.

Kany Garcia Teams Up with Carin Leon for Pop Ballad “Te Lo Agradezco”

The 40-year-old Puerto Rican singer-songwriter has joined voices with Carin Leon for the new single “Te Lo Agradezco.”

Garcia begins the song with an imposing tuba beat that then gives space to a requinto-driven melody, with both instruments ultimately fusing to give life to this powerful pop ballad.

Leon’s signature vibrant vocals complement Garcia’s equally potent voice, as they sing about being better off after ending a toxic relationship.

“This love was too big for you, and you would say that I couldn’t live without you and now you’re looking for any reason to talk about me, oh love, you still have that urge to hurt my heart,” they sing.

La Maquinaria Norteña Earns Third No. 1 on Billboard’s Regional Mexican Airplay Chart with “Te Quiero Ver”

La Maquinaria Norteña is celebrating another chart-topper…

The Regional Mexican band continues its winning streak as its latest single, “Te Quiero Ver,” rises 2-1 to rule Billboard’s Regional Mexican Airplay chart dated July 22.

It’s the third No. 1 for the Roswell, N.M.-based group, all of which arrived less than a year ago.

“Te Quiero Ver” rises to the summit on the Regional Mexican Airplay chart with 7.69 million audience impressions, a 7% swell from the week prior, earned in the U.S. during the July 7-13 tracking week, according to Luminate.

The quintet’s new champ follows “Eres Ese Algo,” which commanded for one week in February. With “Te Quiero Ver” in the lead, La Maquinaria picks up its third No. 1 among 29 career entries, and 13 top 10s. Its first came through the one-week ruler “50 y Cincuenta” in August 2022.

“Te Quiero Ver” ousts Grupo Firme and Gerardo Coronel’s “Que Onda Perdida” from the top slot after three weeks in charge.

With “Te Quiero Ver” at No. 1, La Maquinaria solidifies its standing becoming the only act, overall, with dual coronations unaccompanied by any other act on Regional Mexican Airplay in 2023.

Further, the quintet is also the second act to place at least two rulers on the survey in the same period. The only other act to place as many or more is Grupo Frontera with three champs: “Que Vuelvas” with Carin León (six weeks at No. 1, between Jan-Feb), “Bebe Dame” with Fuerza Regida (three weeks at No. 1, March-April) and “Di Que Sí” with Grupo Marca Registrada (April-May).

“Te Quiero Ver” also sees progress on the overall Latin Airplay chart, rising to its No. 5 high.

The northeño tune was composed by Keith Nieto, he group’s saxophonist.

La Maquinaria is comprised of leading vocalist and sixth bass player Sergio “Mosca” Soto, Nieto on sax, Rory Nieto on accordion, Tony Nieto on drums and Iván Gutiérrez on electric bass.

Danna Paola to Perform at This Year’s Premios Juventud

Paola is part of a roster of new performers that includes Camilo, Carin Leon, Denise Rosenthal, Eslabon Armado, Farruko, Fernando Villalona, Ilegales, Jandy Ventura, Los Hermanos Rosario, Pavel Núñez, Sofia Reyes and Toño Rosario.

Paola will make her television debut at Premios Juventud with her latest single, “1Trago”.

Returning to the stage that catapulted her career, Reyes is set to captivate the audience with her infectious hit “Marte”.

Carin Leon Releases New Single “Primera Cita”

The 33-year-old Mexican regional music singer, composer and guitarist has released his new single “Primera Cita.”

The single, the first track from his upcoming album Colmillo de Leche, spotlights his soul-deep raspy vocals and his ability to convey feelings through his songs and melodies with more traditional Mexican sounds

Leon conveys his passion for R&B and soul on the track.

“This song was a surprise for us since it was an experiment for our Tiny Desk recording — we made a little soul and fused it with regional Mexican to create something exciting,” he recently told Billboard.

In the track, he wistfully sings, “I saw you, and you looked at me/ At the beginning, it was a joke/ Then the truth comes out we exchange smiles/ Some time passed, just under an hour/ And under the table, your heel touched my boot.”

Karol G Collects Eight Latin American Music Awards Trophies, Including Artist of the Year

Karol G is this year’s Latin American Music Awards darling…

The 32-year-old Colombian superstar was the big winner at the 2023 Latin AMAs, taking home eight awards, including artist of the year.

In addition to the night’s top prize, Karol G took home Song of the Year and Collaboration of the Year for her Becky G-collaboration “MAMIII.”

Becky G collected four awards, including Best Collaboration – Pop/Urban for the

Karol G-assisted girl anthem “MAMIII.”

The Mexican-American singer took the stage to say that women are stronger united.

“This is bigger than us. This is girl power. Thank you to the fans for supporting us.”

Overall, it was a big night for Música Mexicana with artists such as Grupo Frontera and Carin Leon also taking the stage for performances. Leon took the stage three times to perform solo, alongside Frontera and then again for a special medley to honor Legacy Award recipient Pepe Aguilar.

Other special honorees were Carlos Vives — who also received the Legacy Award — and David Bisbal and Prince Royce both took the Pioneer Award.

Additional winners include Bad Bunny, who took home three trophies, and Junior H, Rosalía, Shakira, Romeo Santos and The Weeknd each with two.

Fuerza Regida Notches First No. 1 on Billboard’s Regional Mexican Airplay Chart with Grupo Frontera-Collab “Bebe Dame”

The Regional Mexican group continues its good fortune across Billboard’s Latin charts as “Bebe Dame,” with Grupo Frontera, jumps 2-1 on the Regional Mexican Airplay chart dated March 18.

The song’s new coronation lands after it dominated on the Hot Latin Songs chart for two weeks.

“Bebe Dame” rises to the top of Regional Mexican Airplay thanks to a 15% increase in audience impressions, to 9.2 million, earned in the U.S. in the week ending March 9, according to Luminate.

The collaboration was released on December 16 and belongs to Fuerza Regida’s Sigan Hablando album, which earned the five-member ensemble its highest peaking set on Top Latin Albums (No. 2, Jan. 28) and a two-week reign on Regional Mexican Albums.

“Bebe Dame” is the second collaborative effort by Fuerza Regida and Grupo Frontera, following “911” which reached the top 25 on the multimetric Hot Latin Songs chart last December.

Back on Regional Mexican Airplay, as “Bebe Dame” leads the 29-year-old ranking, Fuerza Regida secures its first champ. Previously, the San Bernardino, Calif-based group reached the top five through the No. 5-peaking “Sigan Chambeando” in August 2019.

Grupo Frontera, meanwhile, claims its second leader in less than two months. The group replaces itself at No. 1, sending “Que Vuelvas,” with Carin León, to No. 5 following its six-nonconsecutive-week run on top, which began on the Jan. 28-dated list.

Further, “Bebe Dame” holds at No. 2 on Hot Latin Songs for a seventh frame after two weeks atop, despite dips in both streams and digital sales. It also leaps 6-2 on the all-genre Latin Airplay tally, granting Fuerza Regida its first top 10 there. Grupo Frontera picks up its third straight top 10.

Carin León Releases Cover of Johnny Cash’s “Man in Black”

Carin León is cash-ing in…

The 33-year-old Mexican singer has released his own version of Johnny Cash’s “Man in Black,” available exclusively on Apple Music as part of the Nashville SC official playlist.

In the tribute song — which celebrates the launch of MLS Season Pass and the Nashville Soccer Club kit honoring the life and legacy of Cash — León delivers a soulful rendition of the country folk song originally released in 1971. It starts with León’s crispy, raspy vocals backed by warm guitar riffs and later transforms into a country fusion with Regional Mexican elements.

“Johnny Cash is an icon within country and American folk music, although his music continues to have a strong influence within music across all genres today,” the artist born Óscar Armando Díaz de León Huez said in a press statement. “It’s very important for me to be a part of this very meaningful project and we’re doing things with all of the respect that a figure as important as Mr. Johnny Cash deserves.”

Released over 50 years ago, “Man in Black” — which was a nickname given to Cash for the way he dressed — is a protest song he penned against how poor people were treated by wealthy politicians. “I wear the black for the poor and the beaten down/ Living in the hopeless, hungry side of town/ I wear it for the prisoner who is long paid for his crime/ But is there because he’s a victim of the times,” he chants in the lyrics.

“This song is a very personal thing, but it’s the way I feel about a lot of things,” Cash expressed when he performed the song for the first time.

Honoring his legacy, the “Man in Black” kit was inspired by The Backline Supporters Collective (the club’s fans) and created in collaboration with the Johnny Cash Estate, Sandbox Succession, and Wasserman Music.

The kit will debut on February 25 on MLS Season Pass via the Apple TV app.

Carin León Earns Third No. on Billboard’s Regional Mexican Airplay Chart with Grupo Frontera-collab “Que Vuelvas”

Make that three winners for Carin León.

The 33-year-old Mexican artist has earned his third No. 1 on Billboard’s Regional Mexican Airplay chart with his Grupo Frontera-collab “Que Vuelvas.”

The track rises 8-1 on the chart dated January 28 with 7.7 million in audience impressions, up 44%, earned in the U.S. during the January 13-19 tracking week.

León secures his third No, 1 on the chart, following his three-week domination through his featured role in Banda MS’ “Ojos Cerrados.”

It’s a first No. 1 on the chart for Grupo Frontera, which scored a No. 2 with “No Se Va” last December.

Over on the all-genre Latin Airplay list, “Que Vuelvas” reaches its highest peak: No. 6 in its sixth week.

Sebastian Yatra Leads Pack of Premio Lo Nuestro Nominees with 10 Nods

The 28-year-old Colombian singer, songwriter and actor leads the pack of Premio Lo Nuestro award nominees with 10 nods.

The 35th edition of the Premio Lo Nuestro awards will air live from the Miami-Dade Arena on February 23 via Univision.

Yatra’s nods include the coveted all-genre artist of the year, song of the year and album of the year categories.

He is also nominated for tour of the year — which returned this year by popular demand, according to organizers — and other pop categories. His PLN-nominated album Dharma (2022) peaked at No. 2 on Latin Pop Albums and No. 13 on Top Latin Albums, among other Billboard chart achievements.

Yatra is closely followed by Bad Bunny, Camilo, Becky G and Grupo Firme, who each garnered nine nods; urbano household names Maluma, Daddy Yankee and Ozuna take eight each.

Beloved couple Rauw Alejandro and Rosalía tie with seven, alongside Carin León, Karol G, Carlos Vives and J Balvin.

Aside from topping the list, Yatra will co-host the longest-running Latin music ceremony alongside television presenter and actress Alejandra Espinoza, Mexican pop superstar Paulina Rubio, and Adrián Uribe of Univision’s late-night show De Noche Pero Sin Sueño.

In total, 192 artists across diverse musical backgrounds are nominated within 39 categories. The nominations for Premio Lo Nuestro are based on Uforia radio airplay during the eligibility period of October 1, 2021 through September 30, 2022.

Streaming counts and the assessment of a committee of music and entertainment experts also factor in this list.

Fans can vote for their favorite artists on PremioLoNuestro.com, until Sunday, February 5.

This year’s theme is “El Mundo Es Lo Nuestro” and the 35th annual award show will broadcast live on Thursday, February 23 at 7:00 pm ET. It will simulcast on Galavisión in the U.S. and Canal 5 in Mexico.
