He hasn’t yet released his latest film, the highly anticipated Pacific Rim, but Guillermo del Toro has already lined up his next project.

The 48-year-old Mexican filmmaker has committed to direct the ghost story Crimson Peak.

del Toro has originally set up the project from a script he wrote with frequent collaborator Matthew Robbins, but now he’s planning to bring the film to life make for Legendary Pictures, which backed Pacific Rim.

del Toro will work through a rewrite with Lucinda Coxon, with the film expected to begin shooting in early 2014, giving del Toro time to wrap up press for Pacific Rim and to film the FX pilot for The Strain, a series based on the vampire novel series del Toro co-wrote with Chuck Hogan.

del Toro describes Crimson Peak as “a very set-oriented, classical but at the same time modern take on the ghost story. It will allow me to play with the conventions of the genre I know and love, and at the same time subvert the old rules.”
