ABC Renews Nicholas Gonzalez’s “The Good Doctor” for a Fourth Season

ABC has given an early Season 4 renewal to its hit medical drama series The Good Doctor, starring the 44-year-old Mexican American actor.

The Good Doctor marks the first ABC scripted series renewal this season.

Produced by Sony Pictures Television and ABC Studios, The Good Doctoris ABC’s most-watched show this season after 35 days of delayed viewing across all linear and digital platforms, averaging 15.6 million total viewers with multi-platform playback. 

The Good Doctor,Monday’s No. 1 series in total viewers, is the season’s No. 1 gainer in TV playback in total viewers, jumping by 6.41 million viewers from its Live+Same Day average to its Live+35 Day average. In addition, the ABC drama nearly triples its Live+Same Day adults 18-49 rating after 35 days of playback, spiking by 175% to stand as the No. 1 broadcast gainer this season.

Developed by David Shore and based on a Korean format, The Good Doctor stars Freddie Highmore as Dr. Shaun Murphy, a young surgeon with autism and savant syndrome.

Gonzalez portrays Dr. Neil Melendez, an attending cardiothoracic surgeon in charge of surgical residents.

In the current third season, Shaun continues to use his extraordinary medical gifts at St. Bonaventure Hospital’s surgical unit. As his friendships deepen, Shaun continues to tackle the world of dating and romantic relationships, and work harder than he ever has before, navigating his environment to prove to his colleagues that his talents as a surgeon will save lives.

ABC has given an early second-season renewal to its hit rookie The Good Doctor, starring the 42-year-old Mexican American actor.

The news should come as no surprise, as the drama hails as the network’s most-watched freshman series in 13 years.

The number of episodes hasn’t been disclosed but star Freddie Highmore’s contract calls for 18-episode seasons at most.

In the series, created/executive produced by David Shore based on a Korean format and executive produced by Daniel Dae Kim, Highmore stars as Dr. Shaun Murphy, a young surgeon with autism and savant syndrome, who relocates from a quiet country life to join the prestigious St. Bonaventure hospital’s surgical unit. His only advocate, Dr. Aaron Glassman (Richard Schiff), challenges the skepticism and prejudices of the hospital’s board and staff when he brings him in to join the team.

In addition to Gonzalez and Highmore, the series also stars

Antonia Thomas, Chuku Modu, Beau Garrett, Hill Harper and Tamlyn Tomita.

The pilot episode of the series, from Sony Pictures Television and ABC Studios, won a Humanitas Prize this year. The drama, whose hopefulness clicked with the audiences, airs Mondays at 10:00 pm ET.

ABC has picked up the Sony Television pilot The Good Doctor, starring the 41-year-old Mexican American actor, to series.

The medical drama, which hails from House creator David Shore, who wrote and executive produces, stars Freddie Highmore.

The Good Doctor centers on Shaun Murphy (Highmore), a young surgeon with autism and savant syndrome who relocates from a quiet country life to join a prestigious hospital’s surgical unit. Alone in the world and unable to personally connect with those around him, Shaun uses his extraordinary medical gifts to save lives and challenge the skepticism of his colleagues.

In addition to Highmore and Gonzalez, who portrays Dr. Neal Melendez, the series also stars Antonia Thomas as Dr. Claire Brown, Chuku Modu as Dr. Jared Kalu, Irene Keng as Dr. Sarah Chen, Beau Garrett as Jessica Preston, Hill Harper as Dr. Marcus Andrews and Richard Schiff as Dr. Aaron Glassman

Hawaii Five-O’s Daniel Dae Kim is executive producing the series, based on a South Korean format.

Gonzalez to Star in ABC’s Medical Drama Pilot “The Good Doctor”

The 41-year-old Mexican American actor has been cast in The Good Doctor, ABC’s medical drama pilot from House creator David Shore and Hawaii Five-0 co-star Daniel Dae Kim.

Written by Shore based on a South Korean format and directed by Seth Gordon, The Good Doctor centers on Dr. Shaun Murphy (Freddie Highmore), a young surgeon with Savant syndrome who is recruited into the pediatric surgical unit of a prestigious hospital.

Gonzalez, who was introduced in the final minutes of ABC’s How To Get Away With Murder season finale as a key character to the drama’s mystery, will play Dr. Neil Melendez, the boss of the surgical residents at the hospital.

Gonzalez is expected to return to HTGAWM next season as a recurring guest star, reprising his role as Dominick.

He previously recurred on another Shondaland drama series for ABC, Off the Map. Gonzalez will also appear in season 3 of Narcos on Netflix.
