Michelle Rodriguez to Star in the Dramatic Thriller “Dreamland”

The film, which was unveiled at the European Film Market earlier this month, is now shooting in Montreal.

The film written and being directed by Jarecki follows three colliding stories: a drug trafficker (Hammer) arranges a multi-cartel Fentanyl smuggling operation between Canada and the U.S.; an architect (Lilly) recovering from an OxyContinaddiction tracks down the truth behind her son’s involvement with narcotics; and a university professor (Oldman) battles unexpected revelations about his employer, a drug company with deep government influence bringing a new “non-addictive” painkiller to market. 

Rodriguez plays a DEAsupervisor who clashes with Hammer’s drug trafficker. 

Rodriguez’s credits include starring as Letty Ortiz in the Fast & Furious franchise, as well as roled in Resident EvilS.W.A.T.and Avatar.

Jesse Garcia to Star on Netflix’s “Narcos: Mexico”

The 36-year-old Latino actor has landed a series regular role opposite Diego Luna and Michael Peña on Narcos: Mexico, the upcoming fourth season of Netflix’s drug trafficking drama series.

After three seasons in Colombia in the pre- and post-Pablo Escobar world, Narcos has moved to Mexico, where it explores the origins of the modern drug war by going back to its roots, beginning at a time when the Mexican trafficking world was a loose and disorganized confederation of independent growers and dealers.

The new installment follows the rise of the Guadalajara Cartel in the 1980s as Félix Gallardo (Luna) takes the helm, unifying traffickers in order to build an empire. When DEA agent Kiki Camarena (Peña) moves his wife and young son from California to Guadalajara to take on a new post, he quickly learns that his assignment will be more challenging than he ever could have imagined. As Kiki garners intelligence on Félix and becomes more entangled in his mission, a tragic chain of events unfold, affecting the drug trade and the war against it for years to come.

Garciawill reportedly portray a DEA agent who volunteers for a dangerous assignment in Mexico.

Garcia played Ranger Freddie Gonzalez in the El Rey Network’s From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series and stars in the upcoming feature film Collision. Best known for his award-winning film Quinceañera, Garcia’s television work also includes Edward James OlmosHBO movie Walkout and recurring roles on Sons of Anarchy, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and The Shield.

Narcos: Mexico premieres November 16 on Netflix.

Pedro Pascal to Star in Disney+’s Live-Action Star Wars Series “The Mandalorian”

The 43-year-old Chilean actor is joining the Jedi universe, portraying the title character in The Mandalorian, the live-action Star Wars series that will be a flagship program for Disney+, the ambitious streaming service launching in 2019.

Pascal is in final negotiations to star in the series, which chronicles the lone-wolf odyssey of a character who hails from the planet Mandalore, which Star Wars fans know as the homeworld of the notorious bounty hunter Boba Fett and Jango Fett.

Pascal memorably portrayed the passionate warrior Oberyn Martell, aka the Red Viper, on the fourth season of the HBO series Game of ThronesHe also played DEA agent Javier Peña on three seasons of Narcos, when the Netflix series centered on the cocaine cartels of Colombia. Pascal also played Agent Whiskey in the Foxfeature film Kingsmen: The Golden Circle in 2017.

The Mandalorian is written and executive produced by Jon Favreau, the director of Jungle BookIron Man as well as the upcoming reinterpretation of The Lion King. Favreau’s official description of the show: “After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.”

The events depicted in the series are set after the events of Return of the Jedi, which concluded with the fiery funeral of Darth Vader on the forest moon of Endor.

The first episode of the series will be directed by Dave Filoni (Star Wars: The Clone Wars). Also on board to direct early episodes are Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok), Rick Famuyiwa (Dope), Deborah Chow (Jessica Jones) and actress Bryce Dallas Howard, whose previous directorial work has been limited to short films.

Raul Mendez to Star in Lifetime’s Original Movie “Cocaine Godmother”

Raul Mendez has landed a Godmother of a role…

The 42-year-old Mexican actor will star in Lifetime’s original movie Cocaine Godmother, starring Catherine Zeta-Jones.

Directed by Guillermo Navarro, Cocaine Godmother is based on the life of Miami drug lord Griselda Blanco (Zeta-Jones), one the original “Cocaine Cowboys” who pioneered the drug trade between Colombia and the U.S. in the 70s and 80s.

Mendez will star as Dario, an associate of Pablo Escobar and Griselda’s third husband.

In addition to Mendez, the list of recent cast additions includes Jenny Pellicer (The Bridge) as Carolina, one of Griselda’s female lovers; Jose Julian (A Better Life)  as Uber, Griselda’s second-oldest son (she had 4 boys); Juan Pablo Espinosa (La Fan) as Alberto, one of Griselda’s criminal associates, and her second husband; and Warren Christie (The Catch) as Jimmy, the DEA agent who hunted her down.

Blanco was living in Queens, NY, when she became embroiled with local drug runners. After moving to Miami to expand her empire, the death of her second husband gave rise to her nickname The Black Widow. She later moved to California, was deported to Colombia and was gunned down in 2012. In her lifetime, Griselda’s drug distribution network spanned across the United States and she was suspected of ordering over 200 murders.

The film will go into production this year and premiere in 2018 on Lifetime.

Mendez’s credits include major recurring roles on Narcos and Sense8.

Cocaine Godmother is produced by Asylum Entertainment for Lifetime.

Gonzalez to Star in Netflix’s Drug Cartel Drama “Narcos”

Nicholas Gonzalez is reporting for duty…

The 40-year-old Mexican American actor has booked a recurring role on the upcoming third season of Netflix’s drug cartel drama Narcos.

Gonzalez will play Lopez, a capable and experienced American DEA agent.

Season 3, slated to premiere in 2017, will pick up following the death of Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar.

Gonzalez currently has a recurring role on the seventh season of Freeform’s Pretty Little Liars as Detective Vic Furey and is reprising his role of Dante Ramon, the older brother of Cisco Ramon, in the CW’s The Flash.

Netflix Releases Trailer for Season 2 of Moura’s Series “Narcos”

Netflix has released the official Season 2 trailer for its acclaimed drama series Narcos, starring the 40-year-old Brazilian film, television and stage actor.

Season 2 picks up with the continued search for Pablo Escobar following his prison escape.

“Ok, let me break it down for you,” the trailer begins. “Four-thousand soldiers, tens of thousands of rounds of fire, and a bunch of f***in helicopters. There was no way Pablo Escobar was getting out of this one.”

Moura stars as drug kingpin Escobar alongside Boyd Holbrook and Pedro Pascal as real-life DEA agents Steve Murphy and Javier Peña.

The series chronicles the real-life stories of the infamous drug lords of the late 1980s and the corroborative efforts of law enforcement to meet them head on.

All 10 episodes of Narcos will launch on Friday, September 2, exclusively on Netflix.

The 46-year-old Argentine American actress, best known for portraying Téa Delgado on the soap opera One Life to Live and General Hospital, has landed a series regular role opposite Wagner Moura and Pedro Pascal on Season 2 of the Netflix drama series Narcos.

The 30-year-old Colombian actor has joined the cast of Netflix’s drama series Narcos as a series regular.

Directed by Jose Padilhathe series centers on notorious Colombian cocaine kingpin Pablo Escobar and Javier Pena, a Mexican DEA agent sent to Colombia on a U.S. mission to capture and ultimately kill him.

Narcos is basically the true-life story of the growth and spread of cocaine drug cartels across the globe and attendant efforts of law enforcement to meet them head on in brutal, bloody conflict.

Urbina will play Fabio Ochoa, one of a trio of Colombian brothers, all playboy drug dealers, who works in the cocaine business with his brothers.

Narcos, which was written by Chris Brancato, also stars Manolo Cardona, Wagner Moura and Pedro Pascal.

Urbina’s previous television credits include appearances on The Mentalist and Grey’s Anatomy.

It centers on notorious Colombian cocaine kingpin Pablo Escobar (Moura) and Javier Pena (Pascal), a Mexican DEA agent sent to Colombia on a U.S. mission to capture and ultimately kill him.

Executive produced by Padilha, Narcos will premiere on Netflix in 2015.

Pascal most recently wrapped a major recurring role on HBO’s blockbuster fantasy series Game Of Thrones. He also recently recurred on USA’s Graceland and CBSThe Mentalist.

Leto Wins First-Ever SAG Award for His Performance in “Dallas Buyers Club”

It’s turning out to be a rewarding week for Jared Leto

The 42-year-old part-Spanish American actor/singer took home his first-ever SAG Award on Saturday night at the 20th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Leto, a first-time SAG Award nominee, earned “The Actor” statuette for best supporting actor for his performance as male-to-female transgender character Rayon in Dallas Buyers Club.

Leto’s SAG Award marked his third prize in a week for the role — he also won his first-ever Golden Globe and a Critics’ Choice Movie Award. Additionally, he earned his first-ever Academy Award nomination this week, an award Hollywood insiders believe he’ll take home on March 2.

Leto dedicated his supporting actor SAG award to “the Rayons of the world, the people who made a choice to live their lives not as others would have them live it but as they have chosen to dream it.”

But Leto wasn’t the only Latino actor to pick up the first SAG Award of his career…

Mexican American comedian Louis C.K., a previous nominee for Male Actor in a Comedy Series for his starring role on FX’s Louie, and first-time nominee Michael C. Peña each earned “The Actor” for forming part of the cast of David O. Russell’s drama American Hustle, which took outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture.

Breaking Bad star Steven Michael Quezada also picked up his first SAG Award. The 50-year-old Mexican American actor and two-time nominee, who portrays DEA Agent Steven Gomez on the series, and his cast mates took home the award for took outstanding performance by a cast in a drama series.

From first to fourth…

Sofia Vergara and Rico Rodriguez made history when they picked up their fourth consecutive SAG Award for outstanding performance by a cast in a comedy series for starring on Modern Family.

With the victory, the hit ABC sitcom broke a tie with Seinfeld for most ensemble cast in a comedy series wins in the history of the SAG Awards, cementing the show’s status as one of the best television comedies of all time.

The SAG Awards were handed out during a live simulcast on TNT and TBS on Saturday night from the Shrine Exposition Center in Los Angeles.
