Georgel Releases Spotify’s First-Ever Pride Latin Exclusive Single “No Putx,” Featuring Molotov’s Tito Fuentes

Georgel is commemorating Pride Month through music…

The 36-year-old Mexican singer-songwriter, whose real name is Julio Arevalo Reyes-Rosas, has released the empowering anthem “No Putx” featuring Molotov‘s Tito Fuentes.

In the neo hip-hop satirical track, Georgel – who’s at the forefront of ushering the Latin R&B renaissance – doesn’t hold back singing about the machista Latin culture and its efforts to oppress the LGBTQIA+ community with homophobic slurs such as p—.

But in “No Putx,” the rising artist also reaffirms the empowerment of a community that demands equality and justice.

“No te confundas que ese no soy yo,” Georgel sings defiantly. “No somos machos pero somos muchos … Ahora dime quien es el [puto].”

“No Putx,” which becomes the first Pride Latin Spotify Exclusive Single, is a new take on Molotov’s 1997 rock anthem “Puto,” in which they use the infamous “p–o” chants to critique Mexican politicians. The new track is Georgel’s gift to his fans for Pride Month, which he tells Billboard he’ll sing “fiercely and loudly!”

The 28-year-old half-Mexican American actress, who recently appeared in the YouTube Originals docuseries Dancing with the Devil, will launch 4D with Demi Lovato with podcast company Cadence13.

Vita Ayala Developing Stories for DC’s Pride Month Anthology Comic Featuring LGBTQIA+ Characters

Vita Ayala is bringing a little pride to the comic book world…

The queer Afro-Latinx writer has joined the DC Pride creative time for DC’s June Pride Month, which included the launch of an 80-page anthology comic featuring LGBTQIA+ characters from across the DC Universe.

The anthology DC Pride #1 will feature cameos by Batwoman, Renee Montoya, Alan Scott, Midnighter, Apollo, Extraño, Poison Ivy, Harley Quinn, Constantine, and more.

The DC Pride creative teams, and the characters they’re developing stories for, are:

  • Batwoman (Kate Kane) by James Tynion IV & Trung Le Nguyen
  • Poison Ivy & Harley Quinn by Mariko Tamaki & Amy Reeder

The anthology will include full-page profiles of DCTV’s LGBTQIA+ characters and the actors who play them. A special bonus for fans of The CW’s Supergirl will be the introduction of the first comic book appearance of Dreamer, a trans woman superhero, in a story written by actor Nicole Maines, who plays Nia Nal/Dreamer on Supergirl.

Rounding out the DC Pride anthology is a forward by Marc Andreyko (Love is Love), and single-page pin-ups by artists Kris Anka, Sophie Campbell, Mildred Louis, Travis Moore, Nick Robles and Kevin Wada.

The DC Pride #1 cover is by Jim Lee, Scott Williams and Tamra Bonvillain.

DC will also release a series of Pride theed variant covers showcasing DC’s leading characters through the month of June, giving fans the opportunity to purchase comics featuring covers with Batman, Harley, Ivy, Superman, Wonder Woman, and more. These include:

DC will also present an eight-issue miniseries, Crush & Lobo, by Tamaki and Nahuelpan, spinning out of the pages of Teen Titans Academy. The book will debut with a cover by Kris Anka, a Pride variant cover by Yoshi Yoshitani, a 1:25 ratio variant by Christian Ward, plus a Dan Hipp team variant for participating retailers. The book will be published between June and January 2022.

DC will also publish GLAAD Media Award-nominated Suicide Squad: Bad Blood by Tom Taylor and Bruno Redondo (Nightwing) on April 27, DC’s gothic LGBTQIA+ romance Poison Ivy: Thorns by Kody Keplinger and Sara Kipin on June 1, and Mariko Tamaki and Yoshi Yoshitani’s YA graphic novel, I Am Not Starfire, will publish on July 27 as part of the publisher’s overall Pride plans in 2021.

Lois Lane by Greg Rucka and Mike Perkins, Far Sector by N.K. Jemisin and Jamal Campbell and You Brought Me The Ocean by Alex Sánchez and Julie Maroh have also been nominated for GLAAD Media Awards in 2021.

Demi Lovato Helps Launch “Pro-Vaxxer” Campaign to Fight Misinformation About COVID-19 Vaccine

Demi Lovato is making a phenomenal effort to the spread of coronavirus vaccine misinformation…

The 28-year-old half-Mexican American singer/actress has joined forces with Phenomenal and Higher Heights for America to help launch the “Pro-Vaxxer” campaign to help fight misinformation about the COVID-19 vaccine.

Lovato proudly showed off her new “Pro-Vaxxer” crewneck sweatshirt on her social media accounts on Wednesday (March 10), and 100% of its net proceeds support the cause in partnership with Higher Heights, a nonprofit organization that seeks to elevate Black women’s voices to shape and advance progressive policies and politics. Phenomenal is a female-powered lifestyle brand and media company founded by Meena Harris that uses fashion to make a statement on social issues and celebrate people’s identities.

“I’m proud to join @phenomenal and @higherheights4 in launching their PRO-VAXXER campaign to help fight misinformation around the safety of the COVID-19 vaccine,” the pop star wrote. “All net proceeds from this sweatshirt will support grassroots mobilization and education efforts in partnership with Higher Heights to disseminate trusted information and ensure accessibility and equitability in vaccine distribution, particularly in communities of color.”

Harris also shared the news on Twitter with a link to Lovato’s sweatshirt. The Pro-Vaxxer collection also includes a Dr. Fauci coffee mug.

“Demi is a fierce advocate for many causes, and importantly, she embraces an intersectional approach because she understands that a lot of the issues she cares about are deeply and systemically connected. She is a passionate advocate for mental health, racial justice, LGBTQIA+ rights, climate justice, justice for immigrants, and she consistently uses her voice in a meaningful way,” Harris told The Hollywood Reporter. “Seeing the spread of misinformation about the vaccine online, Demi wanted to use her platform to share truthful, easily accessible information about vaccine safety and also raise funds to help Black and brown communities, which have been hardest hit by COVID-19. When Demi and I learned that we had a shared interest in building a campaign on this topic, it felt like a natural fit to partner together.”

Valentina to ‘Drag Out the Vote’ at Variety Show “Divas For Democracy: United We Slay”

The 29-year-old Mexican American drag performer and former RuPaul’s Drag Race contestant will team up with some of her fellow queens and Broadway celebrities to get out the vote for November’s presidential election.

Valentina and divas from the drag world and icons of the stage will come together for Divas For Democracy: United We Slay, a one-night-only variety show extravaganza promoting voter participation and key issues relating to the LGBTQIA+ community in the upcoming 2020 election.

Presented by the nonprofit voter engagement organization Drag Out the Vote and hosted by RuPaul’s Drag Race star Nina West and Entertainment Tonight‘s Keltie Knight, Divas for Democracy: United We Slay features scores of talent who’ll sing and lip-synch through dazzling performances of theater classics and pop songs.

Special segments will highlight LGBTQIA+ activists in a nonpartisan effort to shine a light on community participation in the political process, including celebrity appearances by Tony winner Cyndi Lauper, Drag Race panelist Michelle Visage, Harvey Fierstein, James Monroe Iglehart, Bianca Del Rio, Shangela, Cheyenne Jackson, Mila Jam, and Oscar-winning actress Allison Janney.

In addition to Valentina, other drag superstars slated to perform during the broadcast include Alaska, Jinkx Monsoon, Jujubee, Peppermint, Cynthia Lee Fontaine, Shuga Cain, Honey Davenport, and Drag Out the Vote’s national co-chairs Brita Filter, Marti Gould Cummings, and Pixie Aventura.

Broadway figures set to appear include legendary three-time Tony-winning actress Chita Rivera, as well as Tony winners Stephanie J. Block, Lea Salonga, Nikki M. James, Beth Leavel and Annaleigh Ashford. Also joining the program are stage stars Shoshana Bean, Eden Espinosa, Jenn Collela, Chilina Kennedy, Keala Settle, Tamika Lawrence, L Morgan Lee, and Our Lady J.

The presentation will be directed by Josh Rhodes and Lee Wilkins, whose joint careers include work choreographing Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella, First Date, It Shoulda Been You, and Bright Star on Broadway. Tony winner Stephen Oremus will serve as music supervisor.

“One in five LGBTQIA+ people is not registered to vote, and 100 million people did not vote in the 2016 election. We must fix this,” said Drag Out the Vote founder Jackie Huba in a press statement. “We are excited to bring together the worlds of Broadway and drag to inspire voters to sashay their way to the polls or their mailboxes.”

Pabllo Vittar to Perform at NYC Pride’s Pride Island Music Festival

NYC Pride announced that the 24-year-old Brazilian singer and songwriter, whose real name is Phabullo Rodrigues da Silva, will be part of this year’s Pride Island music festival.

Vittar joins a lineup that includes iconic dance-club singer Grace Jones, who will serve as Saturday’s headliner, and R&B superstar Teyana Taylor. 

“We’re thrilled to be able to create this multi-day experience, which speaks to an inclusive set of Pride- goers, during one of the biggest Pride events in the world,” NYC Pride’s managing director Chris Frederick said in a statement. “With the iconic Grace Jones headlining on Saturday and the incredible list of curated talent, this musical experience is definitely not to be missed.”

Jones, Taylor and Vittar are not the only reasons this year’s New York festivities will be larger than ever. Along with commemorating the 50th anniversary of the 1969 Stonewall riots, New York will be hosting the first ever WorldPrideevent on U.S. soil, bringing even more celebrants than ever to the Big Apple.

“I couldn’t be more excited to perform in front of my LGBTQIA+friends and the community that’s supported me for so many years during WorldPride 2019,” Jones said in a statement. “Saturday’s Pride Island lineup will be a celebration of everything that the community stands for and will go down in illustrious history.”

The Saturday lineup will also include pop singer Amara La Negra and DJ Johnny Dynell. 

The announcement for the festival’s Sunday lineup has yet to be announced. 

NYC Pride Island will take place from Saturday, June 29 to Sunday, June 30 at Pier 97in New York City.
