Bad Bunny has bounced back to the top…

The 28-year-old Puerto Rican superstar’s acclaimed album Un Verano Sin Ti has returned to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart dated Aug. 20 for an eighth nonconsecutive week in the top spot, as the set rises from No. 2 with 108,800 equivalent album units earned (up 4%) in the U.S. in the week ending August 11, according to Luminate.

Un Verano Sin Ti has spent its first 14 weeks on the Billboard 200 chart lodged in the top two. The last album to start off as strong was Drake’s Views, which spent its first 17 weeks in the top two (May 21-September 10, 2016-dated charts).

Un Verano Sin Ti debuted at No. 1 on the May 21, 2022-dated chart, then stepped away from the top slot for three weeks. It returned to No. 1 on June 18, and then moved aside for two more weeks, returning to No. 1 for five straight weeks from the July 9 through August 6-dated charts. It then dipped from the top for a week (August 13 chart), only to come back to No. 1 on the latest list.

Un Verano Sin Ti is the first album with four separate visits to No. 1 since Olivia Rodrigo’s Sour also had four distinct stays at No. 1 in 2021, for a total of five weeks atop the list (it debuted at No. 1 on June 5, 2021; then had another week at No. 1 on July 3; two more weeks on July 17-24; and then another week on September 4, 2021).

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units, compiled by Luminate. Units comprise album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). Each unit equals one album sale, or 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams generated by songs from an album.

Of Un Verano Sin Ti’s 105,000 equivalent album units earned, SEA units comprise 104,000 (down 5%; equaling 146.83 million on-demand official streams of the set’s tracks) and album sales and TEA units comprise the remainder of the week’s total.

Un Verano Sin Ti has earned over 100,000 units in each of its first 10 weeks on the chart. The last album to do so was six years ago, when Drake’s Views saw its first 10 weeks all exceed 100,000 units (May 21-July 23, 2016 charts).

Additionally, Un Verano Sin Ti has spent its first 10 weeks on the chart in the top two. The last album to start off as strong was Morgan Wallen’s Dangerous: The Double Album, which spent its first 10 weeks at No. 1 (January 23-March 27, 2021-dated charts).

Un Verano Sin Ti debuted at No. 1 on the May 21-dated chart, then stepped away from the top slot for three weeks. It returned to No. 1 on June 18, and then moved aside for two more weeks, until coming back to No. 1 for the last three consecutive weeks.

Since the start of 2021, six albums have spent at least five weeks at No. 1, including Un Verano Sin Ti. Earlier in 2022, the Encanto soundtrack notched nine weeks atop the list, while Adele’s 30 wrapped a six-week run at No. 1. In 2021, Drake’s Certified Lover Boy and Olivia Rodrigo’s Sour both clocked five weeks at No. 1, while Morgan Wallen’s Dangerous ruled for 10 weeks.

Bad Bunny is livin’ the stream globally…

Following the release of his latest album Un Verano Sin Ti on May 6, the entire track list of the 28-year-old Puerto Rican rapper, singer, songwriter and record producer’s project has charted on the May 21-dated Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. charts.

In total, Bad Bunny simultaneously charts with 28 songs on the Global Excl. U.S. tally, and 27 on the Global 200, including seven in the top 10 of each.

Both counts are record-setting on the former chart, surpassing Taylor Swift’s 24 entries on the November 27, 2021-dated list, and blowing by Drake, Olivia Rodrigo and Ed Sheeran, each of whom has logged three songs in the top 10 at once.

The wave of new Bad Bunny material is led by the album’s opening track, “Moscow Mule,” entering at No. 2 on both lists with 97.2 million global streams in the week ending May 12, according to Luminate. (On average, the album’s 23 songs rank three positions higher on the Global 200 than the Global Excl. U.S. survey.)

Songs from Un Verano Sin Ti drew 33.9% of their streams from the U.S. and 66.1% from outside. While not dramatically different, first-week streams for Bad Bunny’s previous studio album, 2020’s El Ultimo Tour Del Mundo, split 30.2% U.S. and 69.8% beyond.

The extra 3.7% of domestic listenership on streaming services for his newest release reinforces that Bad Bunny’s star has continued to rise and spread in the primarily English-language U.S. market (including his home of Puerto Rico), while he continues to be a dominant force in Latin America and beyond.

He tops Billboard‘s Hits of the World charts in Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru and Spain, placing anywhere from 18 to 23 songs on each of the 25-position rankings.

Cumulatively, songs from Un Verano Sin Ti generated 1.06 billion global streams in the tracking week. That marks a 104% increase from the opening-week activity for El Ultimo Tour Del Mundo (520.4 million).

And while his new album has more songs to accumulate more streams (23 vs. 15; Ultimo also includes a 16th track performed by Trio Vegabajeno), the average streaming sum among Un Verano Sin Ti ‘s tracks was 46.1 million, compared to 34.7 million for cuts on El Ultimo Tour Del Mundo.

Bad Bunny’s global takeover adds to his domination of Billboard‘s U.S.-based Latin charts and all-genre Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard 200 rankings.

Yahritza y Su Esencia Among the Latinx Acts Named to Billboard’s 21 Under 21 List

Yahritza Martinez has proven she is one to watch…

The 15-year-old Mexican American singer and her brothers, who make up the act Yahritza y Su Esencia, have been named to Billboard’s 21 Under 21 list, Billboard’s annual celebration of some of the most exciting and successful young artists in the music industry including Olivia Rodrigo, Billie Eilish and more.

Last month, Yahritza became the youngest Latin performer to enter the Billboard Hot 100 chart with “Soy El Unico.”

To date, Yahritza and her brothers have notched 52.9 million streams.

But Yahritza y Su Esencia aren’t the only Latinx act to make this year’s list.

Eslabon Armado, consisting of Brian Tovar, Pedro Tovar, Ulises Gonzalez and Damian Fidel Pacheco, have released four consecutive chart-topping albums over the past two years — all of which hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Regional Mexican Albums chart.

The band took a longer-than-usual break before releasing its latest album, Nostalgia, on May 5. During that time, the group added new members Gonzalez and Pacheco.

“Releasing back-to-back albums was good for our career, but we decided to take a break writing new music so that we could come back stronger,” the Mexican-American sierreño group says. “Our biggest challenge as young artists is staying relevant and creating music that connects with our fans.”

Ángela Aguilar is being heralded for logging 240.1 million streams in her young career.

The 18-year-old Mexican American singer, the daughter of Pepe Aguilar, says she “had been working with my parents’ record label all my life,” having signed to Machín Récords herself in 2012.

Nearly a decade later, in 2020, she scored her first No. 1 on Billboard’s Regional Mexican Airplay chart with the Christian Nodal-assisted single “Dime Cómo Quieres.”

Aguilar says the biggest benefit of being a young artist is “the ability to DM someone about a collaboration.”

Earlier this year, she scored her second No. 1 on the chart with “Ahí Donde Me Ven.”

The Latin Grammy nominee is eager to explore acting, like her father has, and says some of his best career advice includes being “respectful of your craft and the public — to keep your roots well-embedded in your heart.”

Tiago PZK has notched 7.1 million streams.

The 20-year-old Argentine singer and rapper was only 6 years old when he discovered his passion for music, thanks to Daddy Yankee’s 2007 song “Impacto (Remix)” (featuring Fergie).

Tiago PZK (who also cites Justin Bieber as inspiration) has since created his own fusion of R&B, reggaetón and alternative rock, best heard on his five Billboard Global 200 hits: “Además de Mi,” “No Me Conocen,” “Entre Nosotros,” “Salimo de Noche” and “Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 48.”

In 2021, the artist born Tiago Uriel Pacheco signed a worldwide publishing agreement with Sony Music Publishing U.S. Latin and, this year, a record deal with Warner Music Latina (through a partnership with indie Grand Move Records). Looking ahead, he says he’s most excited to tour: “It will make me travel the world and strengthen me mentally.”

DannyLux has garnered 4.8 million streams.

The 18-year-old Chicano alt-rocker is a self-taught musician who hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Latin Songwriters chart at just 17 years old thanks to his work on Eslabon Armado’s “Jugaste y Sufrí” (off the band’s third album, Corta Venas).

The sierreño artist has since signed a record deal with Warner Music Latina (in partnership with his indie label, VSP Music) and released his ultra-melancholic album, Perdido Sin Ti. He’s already working on new music because, as he says, consistency is key. “Since I’m young, I have so much time to grow up to be the best artist I can be,” he says, citing Bad Bunny’s career as an inspiration because “he never gave up.”

The Linda Lindas, comprised of Mila de la Garza, Eloise Wong, Lucia de la Garza and Bela Salazar, have logged 6.9 million streams.

The all-girl group broke out onto the scene with their viral hit “Racist, Sexist Boy,” which they performed live from the L.A. Public Library.

The 25-year-old Puerto Rican and Cuban American singer has shared her take on “Favorite Crime” by Olivia Rodrigo.

Sabrina ClaudioFor the Cover Nation performance, Claudio transformed the Sour album cut into a breathy, sultry slow jam, singing, “Know that I loved you so bad/ I let you treat me like that/ I was your willing accomplice, honey/ And I watched as you fled the scene/ Doe-eyed as you buried me/ One heart broke, four hands bloody/ Those things I did/ Just so I could call you mine/ Oh, the things you did/ Well, I hope I was your favorite crime.”

Despite not being released as an official single like “Drivers License,” “Deja Vu” and “Good 4 U,” the song still managed to make an impact on the Billboard Hot 100 by debuting at No. 16 when Rodrigo released her smash-debut album back in May 2021.

At the time, all 11 of the LP’s tracks stormed the chart, while Sour itself debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and spent five weeks at the top of the chart.

Meanwhile, Claudio is currently readying her fourth studio album Based on a Feeling, which is scheduled for release on May 6 via Atlantic Records as a follow-up to her 2020 holiday record Christmas Blues.

The singer opened up about what fans can expect from the new project last month while attending Billboard’s Women in Music 2022.

“The music is done. I’m just gonna say that,” she said on the red carpet. “Yeah, I’m just very excited. I haven’t released music in two years — actually, I haven’t been out of the house in two years!”

The Recording Academy has announced more performers for the 64th Grammy Awards program, with the 20-year-old half-Colombian American actress/singer among those set to take the stage.

Rachel Zegler,Zegler, who will be a presenter at this weekend’s Academy Awards show, and Ben Platt will perform during a special In Memoriam segment, featuring songs of Stephen Sondheim.

In addition to Zegler and Platt, recently confirmed performers include Jon Batiste, Foo Fighters, H.E.R, Nas and Chris Stapleton. Additionally, Grammy winner Cynthia Erivo and current nominee Leslie Odom Jr. will perform.

The join previously announced Olivia Rodrigo, Brothers Osborne, BTS, Brandi Carlile, Billie Eilish and Lil Nas X with Jack Harlow. Additionally, Grammy winner Cynthia Erivo, current nominees Leslie Odom Jr.

Bad Bunny: This Year’s Most-Streamed Artist Globally on Spotify

It’s a second consecutive year at the top for Bad Bunny.

Spotify has revealed its annual end-of-year list of the platform’s most-streamed artists, songs, albums and podcasts, with the 27-year-old Puerto Rican Latin trap and reggaeton superstar named the most-streamed artist globally.

Bad Bunny notched more than 9.1 billion streams on the platform globally to top the list ahead of Taylor Swift, BTS, Drake and Justin Bieber.

In the United States, Drake dominated all artists on the platform, while Swift, Juice WRLD, Kanye West and Bad Bunny rounded out the top five.

The most-streamed song of the year globally was Olivia Rodrigo’s “drivers license,” which racked up more than 1.1 billion streams worldwide. Lil Nas X’s “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” earned second place, followed by The Kid Laroi and Bieber’s “Stay,” Rodrigo’s “good 4 u” and Dua Lipa’s “Levitating” feat. DaBaby.

Rodrigo dominated the top two spots on the U.S. list with “drivers license” and “good 4 u,” marking the first time a woman has ever done so. Doja Cat’s “Kiss Me More” feat. SZA, Glass Animals’ “Heat Waves” and “Levitating” rounded out the top five.

Rodrigo’s dominance extended to the global and U.S. albums tally, with her debut album Sour finishing in first place on both charts.

The American Music Awards aired live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, with the 27-year-old Puerto Rican superstar taking home his first-ever AMAs trophies.

Bad BunnyBad Bunny was named Favorite Male Artist – Latin, and he claimed the Favorite Album – Latin prize for his chart-topping album El Último Tour Del Mundo.

Cardi B, who hosted the star-studded awards show, won the award for Favorite Hip Hop Song for her chart-topping single “Up.” It’s her second consecutive win in the category after she took home the same award in 2020 for her single “WAP,” featuring Megan Thee Stallion.

The awards show featured performances from BTS with Coldplay, Olivia Rodrigo, Tyler the Creator, Måneskin, Walker Hayes, Mickey Guyton, Bad Bunny, Tainy with Julieta Venegas, Carrie Underwood with Jason Aldean, Kane Brown, New Edition and New Kids on the Block. Diplo was on DJ duty for the ceremony.

Bruno Mars won the Favorite R&B Song for “Leave the Door Open,” his Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 track “Leave The Door Open,” his single with Silk Sonic co-bandmate Anderson .Paak.

Becky G was named Favorite Female Artist – Latin for the second year in a row, Band MS was named Favorite Latin Duo or Group, and Kali Uchis won her first-ever AMAs trophy for Favorite Latin Song for “Telepatía.”

Bad Bunny to Perform at This Year’s American Music Awards

Bad Bunny is coming to the American Music Awards.

Show organizers have announced that the 27-year-old Puerto Rican reggaeton superstar will perform on the awards show.

Bad Bunny joins a roster of performers that includes BTS and Megan Thee Stallion, and Olivia Rodrigo.

Bad Bunny, a two-time AMA winner, will undoubtedly get the place bouncing with the world premiere television performance of “Lo Siento BB:/.”

Nominated for five awards this year, the rapper and singer last graced the AMAs stage in 2018 alongside J Balvin and 2021 AMAs host Cardi B for a performance of “I Like It.”

As previously reported, Cardi B will make her hosting debut at the 2021 AMAs, set for Sunday, November 21, at 8:00 pm ET/PT on ABC and streaming the following day on Hulu.

The show will air globally across a footprint of linear and digital platforms in more than 120 countries and territories. MRC Live & Alternative and Jesse Collins Entertainment are producing.

Bad Bunny ties Doja Cat and Giveon with five nods each.

He’s nominated in the Collaboration of the Year and Favorite Latin Song categories for his chart-topping single “DÁKITI,” featuring Jhay Cortez. He’s also up for Favorite Male Latin Artist, Favorite Latin Album for El Último Tour Del Mundo, and a second nod in the Favorite Latin Song category for his single “La Noche de Anoche,” with Rosalia.

Cardi B is nominated for three AMAs…

The 29-year-old half-Dominican American rap superstar is up for Favorite Music Video and Favorite Hip-Hop Song for her No. 1 single “Up,” as well as Favorite Female Hip-Hop Artist.

Bruno Mars has picked up three AMA nods…

The 36-year-old part-Puerto Rican Grammy-winning singer is nominated in all three categories for his work with Silk Sonic, his group with Anderson .Paak, Silk Sonic.

Mars is nominated for Favorite Music Video and Favorite R&B Song for Silk Sonic’s “Leave the Door Open,” as well as Favorite Pop Duo or Group.

Maluma has earned three nods, including Favorite Male Latin artist. He’s also up for Favorite Latin Album for Papi Juancho and Favorite Latin Songs for “Hawái (Remix),” featuring The Weeknd.

Kali Uchis has picked up her first-ever AMA nods…

The 27-year-old Colombian American singer/songwriter earns nods in the Favorite Female Latin Artist, Favorite Latin Song (“Telepatía”)and Favorite Latin Album (Sin Miedo (del Amor y Otros Demonios)) categories.

KAROL G is nominated for two awards, including Favorite Latin Album for KG0516 and Favorite Female Latin Artist.

Other nominees include Rosalia (with two), Rauw Alejandro (2), J Balvin (1), Ozuna (1), Natti Natasha (1), Becky G (1), Farruko (1), Banda MS de Sergio Lizárraga (1), Calibre 50 (1), Eslabon Armado (1), La Arrolladora (1), Banda El Limón De Rene Camacho (1) and Los Dos Carnales (1).

With this year’s continued expansion of the Latin field, there are now as many awards for Latin (five) as there are for pop and country. That’s remarkable because there weren’t any categories for Latin at the American Music Awards until 1998, when Julio Iglesias took the first award for favorite Latin artist.

The nominations announcement kicked off Thursday with reveals on ABC’s Good Morning America and Spotify’s morning show The Get Up, with the remaining nominees announced via the AMAs Twitter account.

Nominees are based on key fan interactions — as reflected on the Billboard charts — including streaming, album sales, song sales and radio airplay. These measurements are tracked by Billboard and its data partner MRC Data, and cover the time period September 25, 2020, through September 23, 2021.

Voting for all awards is now open. This year, for the first time, fans can vote for all AMA categories on TikTok by searching for AMAs in-app. Fans can vote once per category per day.

The American Music Awards bill themselves as the world’s largest fan-voted awards show.

The show will air live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, November 21, at 8:00 pm ET/PT on ABC and stream next day on Hulu. The show will air globally across a footprint of linear and digital platforms in more than 120 countries and territories.
