The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which during the past eight months has been reforming its organization in the wake of criticism over a lack of diverse membership, questionable standards and conduct, announced the nominations on Monday for its 2022 Golden Globes.

The event from the Beverly Hilton, presided over by new president Helen Hoehne and Snoop Dogg, who both read the nominations, comes amid fallout that saw studios, networks and top PR firms cut working ties with the organization, and NBC, which broadcasts the Globes each year as a key awards-season stop, decide not to broadcast the 2022 edition.

The 79-year-old HFPA has been making changes since April, expanding its ranks of journalists to include more diverse members, restructuring its board, hiring a chief diversity officer, amending its code of conduct and changing bylaws but is pushing forward with some semblance of awards recognition this season.

In October, interim HFPA CEO Todd Boehly and Hoehne said the group is planning to have some sort of awards ceremony on January 9 despite not having a broadcast home.

“This has been a year of change and reflection for the Hollywood Press Association,” Hoehne said today in opening the nominations ceremony, which was streamed online, adding of the 21 new members “not only have they brought in a fresh perspective, but new ideas that will help us to continue to evolve.”

First Trailer Released for Isaac’s Upcoming HBO Miniseries “Show Me a Hero”

Oscar Isaac doesn’t need a hero; he is one…

The first trailer for HBO‘s upcoming miniseries Show Me a Hero, starring the 36-year-old Guatemalan/Cuban American actor, has been released.

Oscar Isaac

Set in Yonkers, New York in the 1960s, the six-part political drama follows Isaac’s character Wasicsko, a young mayor who faces huge resistance from public and his rival in politics, Alfred Molina‘s Henry J. Spallone,, despite his good intentions to bring justice to people in the neighborhood.

The miniseries is based on Lisa Belkin‘s 1999 non-fiction book of the same name. It will explore notions of home, race and community through the lives of elected officials, bureaucrats, activists and ordinary citizens in Yonkers, N.Y.

As Wasicsko is faced with a federal court order that says he must build a small number of low-income housing units in the white neighborhoods of his town, his attempt to do so tears the entire city apart, paralyzes the municipal government and, ultimately, destroys the mayor and his political future.

Oscar Isaac is ready for his Hero’s welcome…

HBO has released the official trailer for its period drama Show Me a Hero, starring the 36-year-old Guatemalan/Cuban American actor.

Oscar Isaac in Show Me a Hero

The story takes place in the 1980s and ’90s and centers on Isaac’s character Nick Wasicsko, a young Yonkers mayor who finds himself at the crossroads of race and politics when he is instructed to build low-income housing units in his largely Caucasian community. He hopes to be on the right side of history, but at what cost?

Show Me a Hero, which draws a lot of parallels to the current civil-rights battle in our country, also stars Catherine Keener, Jim Belushi, Winona Ryder, Alfred Molina and Jon Bernthal.

Set to be shown in six hour-long installments, the series is an adaptation of Lisa Belkin’s 1999 book and is penned by The Wire‘s David Simon and William F. Zorzi and directed by Paul Haggis.

Show Me a Hero premieres at 8:00 pm on August 16 on HBO.

Isaac to Star in HBO’s Miniseries “Show Me a Hero”

Oscar Isaac is a hero in the making…

HBO has officially green-lit for production Show Me a Hero, a six-hour miniseries starring the 35-year-old Guatemalan and Cuban actor, from The Wire co-creator David Simon and Baltimore Sun journalist/The Wire writer William F. Zorzi.

Oscar Isaac

Directed by Paul Haggis and co-starring Catherine Keener, Show Me A Hero is based on the nonfiction book by Lisa Belkin. It centers on Nick Wasicsko (portrayed by Isaac), the youngest big-city mayor in the nation who finds himself thrust into the center of a racial controversy when a federal court orders him to build a small number of low-income housing units in the white neighborhoods of his town, Yonkers, New York. His attempt to do so tears the city apart, paralyzes the municipal government and, ultimately, destroys his political future.

Keener will portray Mary Dorman, an East Yonkers homeowner who comes to a remarkable realization during the battle over where to build low-income housing.

This is Simon’s third miniseries for HBO following 2000′s The Corner, which won an Emmy for Best Miniseries, and Generation Kill, which was nominated in the category. He also co-created HBO’s New Orleans drama Treme, whose five-episode final season is up for a Best Miniseries Emmy this year.

Isaac is currently filming Star Wars: Episode VII.
