Directed by Adam Rodgers from a script he co-wrote with Glenn German, the film centers on a once-in-a-lifetime relationship that develops between two strangers over the course of a single day.

Edith (portrayed Farmiga) meets George (Garcia), while taking their children on a walking tour of a beautiful small college. Failing to connect with their kids, George and Edith decide to play “tour hooky” together for the rest of the afternoon. The result is a surprising romance and the greatest half-day of their lives.

America Video Films will be selling the pic, which was produced under Garcia’s CineSon Productions banner, at Cannes.

Meanwhile, Anchor Bay will bring the film to North America later this year.

Carbonell to Star on A&E’s New Series “Bates Hotel”

Nestor Carbonell is about to go psycho

The 44-year-old Cuban-American actor has joined the cast of A&E’s upcoming series Bates Motel, a prequel to the Alfred Hitchcock horror classic Psycho.

The series is set to examine the twisted relationship between the project’s serial-killer-to-be Norman (Freddie Highmore) and his mother Norma (Vera Farmiga).

His other notable projects include ABC’s Lost and the Melrose Place reboot, as well as the blockbuster hit The Dark Knight Rises.

Garcia to Star in “Hemingway & Fuentes”

It looks like Andy Garcia will be having a Hemingway of a time…

The 56-year-old Cuban American actor—who recently announced plans to star opposite Vera Farmiga in the indie romantic comedy Admissions—will star opposite Anthony Hopkins and Annette Bening in Hemingway & Fuentes.

Andy Garcia

The film details Nobel Prize-winning author Ernest Hemingway’s time in Cuba in the early 1950s and his inspiration for The Old Man And The Sea. The 1952 book was the last new work published by the writer before his death in 1961. It was a best seller, won the Pulitzer Prize in 1953 and was mentioned by the Nobel Committee in 1954 as one reason Hemingway was given the prize. Gregorio Fuentes, who died in 2002 at 104 years old, was one of the novelist’s closest friends during the last decades of his life and the longtime first mate on Hemingway’s boat.

Hopkins will play Hemingway, while Bening will portray Hemingway’s third wife Mary Walsh Hemingway.

Garcia, who is set to direct the film, will play Gregorio Fuentes.

The novelist’s niece Hilary Hemingway and Garcia wrote the screenplay.

Shooting is scheduled to begin in January 2013.

Garcia to Star in “Admissions”

It’s time for Andy Garcia to make some admissions

Admissions centers on a once-in-a-lifetime relationship that grows between two strangers over the course of a single day. Garcia will portray buttoned-up heart surgeon George, who’s taking his son Conrad on a walking tour of a beautiful small college. Farmiga will play Edith, a free-spirited mom taking her driven daughter Audrey on the same tour. Failing comically to connect with their respective children, George and Edith decide to play “tour hooky” together for the rest of the afternoon. The result is a surprising romance and the greatest half-day of their lives.

Garcia, who received an Academy Award nomination for his performance in The Godfather: Part III toplines two soon-to-be released films—For Greater Glory and The Truth, which he filmed with Eva Longoria.

Mexican Siblings Aim to Increase the Latino Presence in Hollywood

They’ve tasted success at the Sundance Film Festival with their film Goats, as well as a screening of their film Cellmates through internet VOD and cable… And, now Juan Carlos and Olga Segura are ready to make their moviemaking dreams come true while helping to increase the Latino presence in Hollywood.

The Mexican siblings strongly believe in the potential of Latino talent to bring to the screen stories that aren’t only relevant within the Hispanic community, but that touch the world with universal themes like racism.

Juan Carlos & Olga Segura

“The power to tell stories is a very important tool that gives us the opportunity to change minds. If just a single person benefits from my work, that’s enough for me,” Olga, an actress and producer tells Efe.

Olga started her career as an actress in the theater production of “Pizza Man.” Later, she had the chance to act in the Cellmates, the story of a racist white American (Tom Sizemore) who is imprisoned with two Mexicans and discovers that, in the end, we’re not so different from one another.

Meanwhile, Juan Carlos began his own filmmaking career as a producer in 2009, blindly founding the company Producciones along with actor Hector Jimenez.

In addition to Cellmates and Goats, which features David Duchovny and Vera Farmiga, the company will screen several other productions this year, including Hidden Moon and Todo un hombre, starring Aaron Diaz.

The Artist’s Bejo a Cinema Vanguard…

She steals the spotlight in the critically acclaimed The Artist… And, now Bérénice Bejo is reaping the rewards of her show-stopping performance in the silent film.

Berenice Bejo The Artist

The 35-year-old Argentine actress and her co-star Jean Dujardin will receive the Cinema Vanguard Award at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival.

Set in 1927 Hollywood, The Artist—which has already garnered plenty of pre-Oscar buzz—centers around silent movie star George Valentin, who wonders if the arrival of talking pictures will cause him to fade into oblivion as he sparks a relationship with Peppy Miller, a young dancer set for a big break.

“We are grateful to the Santa Barbara International Film Festival for this incredible honor,” remarked Dujardin. “Delivering a silent film to the 21stcentury is no easy task, and it would have in no way been possible without the talent and dedication of the incredible ensemble of actors we had the pleasure of working with: James Cromwell, John Goodman, Penelope Ann Miller, Missi Pyle and Malcom McDowell. This award is just as much for them as it is for us.”

The award was established to recognize actors who’ve forged their own path by taking artistic risks and making significant and unique contributions to film.

Previous award recipients include Nicole Kidman, Vera Farmiga, Kristin Scott Thomas and Ryan Gosling.

Bejo, who has previously appeared in A Knight’s Tale, will receive her award at a special tribute event on Saturday, February 4, 2012. Meanwhile, the film festival will run from January 26 – February 5, 2012.
