She may not be an Olympic athlete, but Ana de la Reguera will still be taking part in the events leading up to the 2012 Summer Games in London.
The 35-year-old Mexican actress and former telenovela star has been selected by her home country to help carry the Olympic torch for her humanitarian efforts.
“Mexican top international actress which founded the VeracruzAna Foundation that helps the community of Antigua Veracruz and its surroundings,” says de la Reguera’s nomination form. “After natural disasters VeracruzAna Foundation helped re-build the entire community, homes and streets.”
de la Reguera, who was recently cast in the Lionsgate horror film Jessabelle, will represent Mexico at the special ceremony, which will take place before the Games kick off on July 27. Even though she won’t be carrying the torch a long distance, de la Reguera is extremely excited about the honor.
“In July I will run and carry the torch a few meters,” de la Reguera told People en Español. “I’ll be in London for at least 15 days or less, also traveling a bit to learn about the Olympic experience, which is amazing.”
de la Reguera will carry the torch through Aylesbury in on July 9, 2012.
The Torch is made up of an inner and an outer aluminium alloy skin, held in place by a cast top piece and base, perforated by 8,000 circles.
Representing the inspirational stories of the 8,000 Torchbearers who will carry the Olympic Flame, the circles which run the length of the body of the Torch also offer a unique level of transparency. You can see right to the heart of the Torch and view the burner system which will keep the Olympic Flame alive on its journey around the United Kingdom.
