Álex de la Iglesia is looking forward to reliving his special Day…
Montreal’s Fantasia International Film Festival, which runs from August 20 to September 2 and is being held digitally this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, has unveiled its final lineup, with the 54-year-old Spanish filmmaker’s latest making the cut.
A 4k restoration of de la Iglesia’s The Day of the Beast (El dia de la Bestia) will get its world premiere as part of the festival.
The original Spanish Black comedy film, released in 1995, which centers on Angel (Alex Angulo), a Basque priest and professor of theology, who confesses to another priest that he intends to commit as much evil as he can. The other priest is shocked until Angel whispers his reasoning.
Jorge Michel Grau’s Perdida has also been added to the list.
The Mexican drama is an adaptation of the 2011 Colombian film La cara oculta directed by Andrés Baiz.
The plot centers around Eric (José María de Tavira) is hired as the new conductor of the Mexico City Philharmonic and moves to the city with Carolina (Paulina Dávila), his wife. Everything is perfect until one day she disappears. Eric, mired in pain at Carolina’s apparent abandonment, meets Fabiana (Cristina Rodlo), the bar waitress he often frequents. They start a relationship full of mystery, sex and passion, but Fabiana asks herself questions about Carolina’s mysterious disappearance.
Mario Abbade’s Ivan, The TerriBle will have its world premiere at the festival.
The documentary focuses on Ivan Cardosa, the cousin of José Mojica Marins.
The fest has also announced that revered genre filmmaker John Carpenter will be the recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award and will host an online masterclass as part of its virtual events.
Further events will include talks with Mike Flanagan and Mick Garris, Simon Barrett, and Dennison Ramalho with José Mojica Marins aka Coffin Joe.
The online screenings, which will run via Festival Scope and Shift72’s virtual screening platform, will only be accessible to those based in Canada.
