Ozuna Earns Nine Latin American Music Awards Nominations for Second Consecutive Year

It’s a case of déjà vu for Ozuna

Telemundo has announced the nominees for the 2019 Latin American Music Awards, with the 27-year-old Puerto Rican and Dominican Latin trap and reggaeton singer leading the pack of nominees for the second consecutive year with nine nominations.

Ozuna, a four-time Latin AMAs winner, including Best New Artist in 2017, is up for Artist of the Year, as well as Song of the Year for “Taki Taki,” his collaboration with DJ SnakeSelena Gomez and Cardi B; and Album of the Year for Aura.

Ozuna is followed by Bad Bunny and Romeo Santos with eight nods each. 

Among his eight nods, the 25-year-old Puerto Rican Latin trap and reggaeton singer is nominated for Artist of the YearAlbum of the Yearfor X 100Pre, and Song of the Yearfor “MIA,” his hit collaboration with Drake.

Of Santos’ eight noms, the 38-year-old Puerto Rican and Dominican American singer’s up for Artist of the YearSong of the Year for “Ella Quiere Beber,” his collaboration with Anuel AA, and Favorite Artist – Male.

Anuel AA has seven nominations; and Banda MS has five. Daddy Yankee, MalumaLuis FonsiSebastian YatraT3R Elemento and Marc Anthonyeach landed four nominations this year.

Rosalia and Becky Glead the pack of Latina artists, each earning three nominations. They’re followed by Karol G, the only female nominated for Artist of the Year, with two nods, as well as Cardi B and Selena Gomez, who also have two nods.

In the tradition of the American Music Awards, the Latin AMAspay tribute to the top Latin artists in the market today, with fans voting for the ultimate winners.

The 2019 Latin AMAs nominees are based on key fan interactions with music, including sales, airplay, streaming and social activity tracked by Billboard through its data partners Nielsen Music and Next Big Sound for data covering the periods of Aug. 10, 2018, through July 18, 2019.

The selection of the music video category is based on videos submitted by record labels and independent producers and selected by a committee of industry professionals. The “producers’ choice award” considers the quality, content and creativity of the music video. The winner will be chosen by the fans along with the rest of the Latin AMAs. 

The fifth annual Latin AMAs will air live at 8 p.m. ET on Thursday, Oct. 17, from the Dolby Theatrein Hollywood. The awards show will be preceded by a one-hour red carpet pre-show called “La Alfombra de Latin AMAs,” kicking off at 7:00 pm ET.
