Anitta Releases Spanglish Baile Funk-Inspired Single “Me Gusta,” Featuring Cardi B & Myke Towers

Anitta’s ready for her American crossover… And, she’s getting an assist from La Cardi for maximum impact.

The 27-year-old Brazilian singer has released the new bilingual single, “Me Gusta,” featuring Grammy-winning rap superstar Cardi B and Puerto Rican rapper Myke Towers, along with the song’s vibrant video.

“That’s a perfect match,” Anitta told NBC about working with Cardi. “It was always my dream to bring out my culture, Brazilian culture to the world, and she is the best bridge … for that.”

Anitta is also a polyglot: Her native language is Portuguese, but she sings in both Spanish and English on “Me Gusta.” It fuses two Brazilian styles, funk and pagode (a subgenre of samba), in the new single. The former comes from the favelas of Rio de Janeiro, while the latter is popular in Bahia.

The single features Cardi B switching between rapping in English and Spanish.

“I’ve got the flavor of an Afro-Latina,” the “WAP” hitmaker sings in Spanish. “And I move my waist like Shakira.”

The “Me Gusta” music video pays tribute to Anitta’s homeland: Filmed pre-pandemic in Salvador, the capital of the Brazilian state of Bahia, it features local women, Afro-Latinas and people from LGBTQ communities.

Anitta, who is bisexual, dazzles in a feathered rainbow dress in the video.

Hitmaker Ryan Tedder has a hand on the production side of the track, crafting the baile funk-inspired beat alongside Latin producers Mauricio Rengifo, RDD and Andrés Torres.

Anitta had recently teased the track and high-profile guest collaborator less than a week ago.
