Canto Makes U.S. Television Debut on Fox’s “The Following”

It looks like Adan Canto’s first American television project could be around for awhile…

The 31-year-old Mexican actor made his U.S. television debut this week on Fox’s new Kevin Bacon-starrer The Following, which premiered to 10.4 million viewers on Monday, making it the most-watched episode of any scripted series this season on the network.

“It’s a very beautiful surprise and I feel fortunate to be in this situation,” said Canto, who appears on the show nearly a year after signing a talent holding deal with Fox.

The series features Bacon as a troubled former FBI agent called back into service after the serial killer he captured years earlier escapes from death row.

Canto, a veteran of Mexican television, portrays Billy Thomas, described by the actor as a “loving, very passionate” man who “wants only a secure place in the world.”

“There will be many surprises with this character,” says Canto. “Every time I read the next episode it was a great surprise, I never imagined the things that are going to happen.”

Canto, a singer-songwriter, said it’s a “marvel” to work with Bacon, someone he has long admired.
