Iñaki Godoy’s search for the “One Piece” is on…
Netflix has released the latest trailer for its upcoming live-action series One Piece, starring the 19-year-old Mexican actor, based on the popular manga.
From there, it’s off to the races. Particularly, the trailer shows off a much better look at Monkey D. Luffy (Godoy) and the Straw Hat Pirates, as well as some of their journey across the seas.
Based on the manga title by Eiichiro Oda, One Piece will follow the otherworldly adventures of Monkey D. Luffy and his pirate crew as they explore exotic islands and endless oceans in search for the ultimate treasure “One Piece” to become the next Pirate King.
Along with the trailer, Netflix also released a letter from Oda about the upcoming series. He started by thanking fans for their outpouring of excitement thus far.
“It’s already fun seeing the flurry of reactions after each release of information,” he wrote. He was also quick to remind fans that, while the story is adapted from the popular manga series, they should expect some changes from the source material.
“After the launch, I’m sure I’ll hear about some people pointing out how this character is missing or that scene is omitted, or this bit is different from the manga, but I’m sure they’ll come from a place of love,” he continued. “So I intend to enjoy even those comments!”
In One Piece, Godoy stars as Monkey D. Luffy, along with the Straw Hats played by Mackenyu (Roronoa Zoro), Emily Rudd (Nami), Jacob Romero Gibson (Usopp) and Taz Skylar (Sanji).
Cast also includes McKinley Belcher III, Morgan Davies, Aidan Scott, Vincent Regan, Jeff Ward, Craig Fairbrass, Langley Kirkwood, Celeste Loots, Alexander Maniatis, Ilia Isorelýs Paulino, Chioma Umeala and Steven Ward.
Steven Maeda and Matt Owens serve as writers, executive producers and showrunners. Oda, Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements also executive produce.
One Piece is produced by Tomorrow Studios and Netflix in partnership with Shueisha.
