Alvaro Diaz Releases Music Video for Cazzu Collaboration “Deportivo”

Alvaro Diaz is getting sporty

The 27-year-old Puerto Rican rapper has joined forces with Cazzu to bring to life the story of a dangerous yet loving relationship in their new “Deportivo” video.

This isn’t Diaz and Cazzu’s first collaborative effort, but Diaz tells Billboard he’s always been a fan of the Argentine rapper-singer and was looking for the perfect song to collaborate on.

“I proposed this song to her and she immediately said yes,” said Diaz, who is part of NEON16’s management roster. “In less than a month, she added her vocals. We were excited to do the video but then the pandemic hit. I started thinking of ways to make it work, we couldn’t let this win us.”

With lyrics like “God, please take care of her, don’t let her get in trouble” and “she’s not a princess but I’ll build her a castle,” the infectious trap song is about a man who’s in love with a girl that’s no good for him.

“It’s about a girl who’s not normal but she’s still your girl and no one can touch her or criticize her,” Diaz elaborates. “You’re willing to do whatever you want for her and to protect her.”

In the music video, Diaz and Cazzu, portrayed by a model wearing a tablet with the singer’s face on it, are mischievous partners-in-crime. Diaz is clearly in love as Cazzu is doing her thing—robbing banks and breaking into cars, amongst other things.

“I told Cazzu I had this crazy idea for the video and she loved it,” he says. “She did her shots in Argentina and I filmed mine in Puerto Rico. Everything came out neat.”

In addition to “Deportivo,” Diaz says he’s whipping up an important project dubbed Diaz Antes that will include his two EP’s as well as more music.
