Shakira to Provide Target with Exclusive Deluxe Edition of Her Upcoming Self-Titled Album

Target has sets its (bulls)eye on Shakira

The retailer has set its first music partnership for 2014 with the 36-year-old Colombian pop star, who will provide the retailer with an exclusive deluxe edition of her upcoming self-titled album, due for release on March 25.

Shakira

Shakira’s new Target television spot will premiere during the 56th Grammy Awards on January 26, the same day her fans will be able to pre-order the album only at Target and Target.com.

The commercial, which will feature Shakira doing her trademark hip-shaking, was directed by Marc Klasfeld and was filmed in a small town outside of Barcelona, Spain, where the singer currently lives.

The Target edition of Shakira features three exclusive tracks that the artist says she penned specifically for the retailer.

“With three special bonus songs on our exclusive album, Shakira joins an unparalleled group of remarkable artists that partner with Target to give our guests more music,” Anne Stanchfield, divisional merchandise manager of entertainment, Target, said of the partnership. “Shakira is an international icon with an enormous following of fans that love her distinctive voice, boundless energy and hallmark dance moves. Guests will be thrilled with the three bonus tracks that can only be found at Target.”

Early buzz for the album has already helped catapult Shakira 15-5 on Billboard’s Social 50 chart this week, gaining an additional 750,000 new fans overall.

Part of that traction came from “Can’t Remember to Forget You,” featuring Rihanna, the first single off the singer’s new set. The song vaulted into the top 20 of the Mainstream Top 40 and Latin Pop Airplay charts after its first day of availability. She followed up the release of the duet with a Spanish-language solo version of the song, Nunca Me Acuerdo de Olvidarte.”
