The 23-year-old Spanish tennis player defeated Erika Andreeva in straight sets, 7-5, 7-6(3), to win the Andorra Open.

Marina Bassols RiberaIn the process, Bassols Ribera claimed her second WTA Challenger title in three tries, all attempted this year. She defeated Turkey’s Zeynep Sonmez’s at the WTA 125 Ljubljana in September and was the runner-up at the WTA 125 Valencia in June, losing to Egypt’s Mayar Sherif.

Bassols Ribera previously won against France’s Alize Cornet, German Noma Noha Akugue (6-3, 7-5), Russian Ekaterina Reyngold (6-3, 6-2) and Latvian wildcard Anastasija Sevastova (2-6, 7-6 (4), 6-4) in the previous rounds of the Andorrà tournament.

Bassols Ribera, currently ranked 145, is expected to rise in the WTA rankings.

Marina Bassols Ribera is vying for her second career WTA Challenger title of the year.

The 23-year-old Spanish tennis player, the No 6 seed, defeated Frenchwoman Alize Cornet, the No 8 seed, 6-4, 6-2 to move into the final of the Andorrà Open at Polideportivo de Andorra in Andorre.

Bassols Ribera won against German Noma Noha Akugue (6-3, 7-5), Russian Ekaterina Reyngold (6-3, 6-2) and Latvian wildcard Anastasija Sevastova (2-6, 7-6 (4), 6-4) in the previous rounds of the Andorrà tournament.

Earlier in the tournament, Cornet, ranked No 118, won against Cagla Buyukakcay (1-6, 7-6 (4), 6-3), Spaniard Nuria Parrizas Diaz (6-1, 2-6, 6-1) and Dane Clara Tauson, the second seed (6-3, 6-4).

Caroline Garcia Defeats Alizé Cornet to Reach Bad Homburg Open

Caroline Garcia is vying for her eighth WTA title…

The 28-year-old half-Spanish French tennis player outlasted Alizé Cornet 7-6 (9), 3-6, 7-5 to reach the Bad Homburg Open final.

Caroline GarciaGarcia had to spend close to three hours on court to beat her compatriot.

Garcia saved match point at 5-4 down in the deciding set before winning the next three games as Cornet struggled with an apparent right leg injury, which restricted her movement.

Garcia, currently ranked No. 75 in the world, will face Bianca Andreescu in the final.

Andreescu advanced after Simona Halep withdrew ahead of their semifinal match.

Andreescu and Garcia have not met before.

It’s Garcias’s first WTA final since 2019.
