Jim Acosta Named Weekend Anchor/Chief Domestic Correspondent for CNN

Jim Acosta will be working on the weekend…

CNN announced a series of changes to its Washington, D.C. lineup, including a new role for the 49-year-old half-Cuban American journalist.

Acosta will switch to a new role from chief White House correspondent to anchor and chief domestic correspondent for the network, with more details on his weekend anchoring duties to be announced.

Acosta tweeted about the changes.

“On to the next adventure! After eight years at WH, I’m moving into a new role as anchor on weekends and chief domestic correspondent for @CNN, a new challenge I’m very excited about. Will miss my WH colleagues. But I know they’ll be great covering the Biden admin. See you soon!”

Meanwhile, Arlette Saenz will serve as a correspondent covering the White House.

HBO Max to Premiere CNN Films’ Doc “On The Trail: Inside the 2020 Primaries,” Featuring Daniella Diaz, Next Month

HBO Max will premiere the CNN Films documentary On The Trail: Inside the 2020 Primaries, which captures the network’s team of female journalists and embeds, including the 28-year-old Latina video producer, as they covered the nomination contest.

The project will premiere on Thursday, August 6. 

In addition to Diaz, those spotlighted include Dana BashKaitlan CollinsJessica DeanAnnie GrayerKyung LahMJ LeeAbby PhillipArlette Saenz and Jasmine Wright.

HBO Max describes the project as a cinema verite feature in which viewers will see “the journalists pack up and leave their families to fan out across the country, to report on the president and his would-be rivals, as the candidates launch (and end) campaigns, and contend for voters.”

Sarah Aubrey, head of original content for HBO Max, said in a statement, “This is our first CNN Films documentary on the platform and a powerful representation of our commitment to create thought-provoking and deeply meaningful content together.”

The project is directed by Katie Hinman and Toby Oppenheimer.

Diaz previously covered the 2018 midterm elections.

Saenz is a CNN political correspondent based in Washington, D.C. She is covering Former Vice President Joe Biden and the 2020 presidential campaign.
