Pabllo Vittar to Perform at NYC Pride’s Pride Island Music Festival

Pabllo Vittaris ready to take a bite out of the Big Apple…

NYC Pride announced that the 24-year-old Brazilian singer and songwriter, whose real name is Phabullo Rodrigues da Silva, will be part of this year’s Pride Island music festival.

Vittar joins a lineup that includes iconic dance-club singer Grace Jones, who will serve as Saturday’s headliner, and R&B superstar Teyana Taylor. 

“We’re thrilled to be able to create this multi-day experience, which speaks to an inclusive set of Pride- goers, during one of the biggest Pride events in the world,” NYC Pride’s managing director Chris Frederick said in a statement. “With the iconic Grace Jones headlining on Saturday and the incredible list of curated talent, this musical experience is definitely not to be missed.”

Jones, Taylor and Vittar are not the only reasons this year’s New York festivities will be larger than ever. Along with commemorating the 50th anniversary of the 1969 Stonewall riots, New York will be hosting the first ever WorldPrideevent on U.S. soil, bringing even more celebrants than ever to the Big Apple.

“I couldn’t be more excited to perform in front of my LGBTQIA+friends and the community that’s supported me for so many years during WorldPride 2019,” Jones said in a statement. “Saturday’s Pride Island lineup will be a celebration of everything that the community stands for and will go down in illustrious history.”

The Saturday lineup will also include pop singer Amara La Negra and DJ Johnny Dynell. 

The announcement for the festival’s Sunday lineup has yet to be announced. 

NYC Pride Island will take place from Saturday, June 29 to Sunday, June 30 at Pier 97in New York City.

Pfening Named International Best Actor at the Tribeca Film Festival

Guillermo Pfening is making a name for himself in the Big Apple…

The 38-year-old Argentine actor picked up the Best Actor in an International Narrative Feature Film award at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival.

Pfening won the award for his performance in Nobody’s Watching, directed by Julia Solomonoff.

Nobody’s Watching centers on Nico, a famous actor in Argentina, but an unknown face in New York. After giving up a successful career in his home country for a chance to make it in the Big Apple, he needs to juggle bartending, babysitting and odd jobs to keep himself afloat. Starting from square one is hard in the city of dreams. With each role Nico takes on, he puts on a new persona in order to fit in. He performs the ideal bartender, the up-and-coming actor, the friend, the father figure. But when old friends from Buenos Aires come to visit, he needs to juggle the image of his old life with the reality of the struggling actor in New York City.

“Angie Martinez Day” Declared in New York City

Angie Martinez is having a field day with her new honor…

The 44-year-old Puerto Rican radio personality, former rapper and actress will now have a day dedicated to her in the Big Apple.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio recently held a press conference to present the 105.1 radio host, known as “The Voice of New York,” with a City Proclamation, where he announced that November 19 would be recognized as “Angie Martinez Day” in Manhattan.

The announcement comes in light of Puerto Rican Heritage Month.

The mayor recognized Martinez as a proud spokesperson for her fellow puertorriqueños and also called her an “icon” in the world of entertainment and hip-hop, according to Huffington Post.

“She really has become an icon, a virtuous icon,” de Blasio said. “An icon that makes people very proud. Makes us proud as New Yorkers, makes the entire Latino community proud and particularly makes the Puerto Rican community proud.”

The mayor also took to Twitter to express his excitement for Martinez, writing “NYC wouldn’t be NYC w/o our puertorriqueños! Pleasure to be with @angiemartinez @mmviverito tonight in celebration.”

Martinez’s afternoon radio show has consistently been ranked No. 1 with more young listeners than any other radio program in the country. She’s also released two albums and appeared in films like Blood is Thicker Than Water and Paper Soldiers.

 

Pitbull to Host Live New Year’s Eve Special on Fox

Pitbull has officially cemented his New Year’s Eve plans…

The 33-year-old Cuban American rap superstar will count down to 2015 with Fox, reaching a deal for Pitbull’s New Year’s Revolution special.

Hosted by the “Timber” singer and produced by Endemol, the special will air live on Wednesday, December 31 from 8:00-10:00 pm ET live (CT/MT/PT tape-delayed).

The project is aimed at potentially launching a New Year’s Eve franchise for Fox with Pitbull similar to ABC’s Rockin’ Evewith Ryan Seacrest and NBC’s New Year’s Eve with Carson Daly.

The show will feature performances by Pitbull and various musicians, DJs, and celebrities and will take place in his hometown of Miami, FL.

“The world needs to get ready to un-mute New Year’s Eve, because we are taking the party from the Big Apple to the Pineapple,” says Pitbull in a statement about his new project. “New Year’s Eve is officially in Miami and hosted by yours truly, Mr. Worldwide. P.S. Whatever happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, but whatever happens in Miami never happened, Daleee!”
