Marina de Tavira to Star in Spanish-Language Crime Drama Series “Kolonie”

The 46-year-old Mexican actress, who earned an Academy Award nomination for her work in Alfonso Cuaron’s Netflix Spanish-language film Roma, will star in the Spanish-language crime drama series Kolonie.

The project is in development between Narcos producer Gaumont and Redrum, which has worked on series including Narcos: Mexico and Amazon’s international drug thriller Zerozerozero.

Written by Carlos Rincones, who wrote on Netflix’s Mexican drama Tijuana, the series centers around an emotionally complex seasoned special agent, Adriana, played by de Tavira, who is tasked with investigating the brutal murder of a Mennonite boy in rural Chihuaua, Mexico. Once there, she partners with a rookie local policeman who recently abandoned the Mennonite community to join the police force. As they inch closer to solving the crime, they slowly uncover the justice they pursue is mired in a dark web of corruption and mysticism that extends beyond anything they could have ever imagined.

The series will be shot in Mexico with Redrum’s Stacy Perskie executive producing and Christian Gabela serving as head creative executive.

de Tavira earned a Best Supporting Actress Oscar nod for playing Sofia in Roma and is also set to star in Lisa Joy’s Reminiscence alongside Hugh Jackman, Rebecca Ferguson and Thandie Newton.

 

Miguel Bernardeau to Star in Gaumont & Grupo Ganga’s Dark Spanish Surf Drama “Playa Negra”

The 23-year-oldSpanish actor and Elite star will star in Gaumont and Grupo Ganga’s first Spanish co-production, the dark surf drama Playa Negra.

Gaumont is developing the project, which will be shot on location in the Canary Islands, as an eight-part one-hour drama.

The scripted series is being spearheaded by Spanish filmmaker Susana Casares, co-executive producer of Netflix’s Luis Miguel.

The YA drama is set in a fishing village on the Spanish island of Lanzarote.

Playa Negra follows newcomer Hugo, played Bernardeau, in his quest to get close to the man he suspects is his father. In the process, he befriends a tight-knit group of teens who dream of making it big in Lanzarote’s competitive surfing scene, and together become unwittingly embroiled in the island’s darkest secrets.

Gaumont’s SVP, Creative Executive, Head of Latin American and Spain Christian Gabelasaid the show combines a coming-of-age theme with elements of suspense.

“Alongside Susana and Grupo Ganga, we have created a concept that young adult audiences everywhere will identify with as they immerse themselves in not only the beauty of the location and the thrill of the sport but also the complexities facing the characters throughout series,” he added.

Bernardeau’s previous credits include CaronteSabuesos and Inhibidos.

de la O to Portray Drug Kingpin Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán in Univision’s Drama Series “El Chapo”

Marco de la O is a smooth criminal…

The Colombian stage and screen actor will portray drug kingpin Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán on El Chapothe original drama series now set to premiere on Sunday, April 23 on Univision.

The series, which marks the first co-production between Univision’s Story House Entertainment and Netflix, is currently in production and will air in three separate cycles. It explores the life story of El Chapo, one of the world’s most notorious criminals, over a span of three decades – from 1985 when he was a low-level member of the Guadalajara Cartel, his rise to power, and his ultimate downfall.

de la O previously starred in the Spanish-language television programs Tanto Amor and Salome.

Rounding out the cast are Humberto Busto (Amores Perros) as Attorney Conrado Sol, aka “Don Sol” (an important political party figure); Juan Carlos Olivas (180°) as El Güero (Joaquín’s main partner); Alejandro Aguilar (Rosario Tijeras) as Toño (Joaquín’s main assassin); Tete Espinoza (Wenses y Lala) as Chío (Joaquín’s lover); Rodrigo Abed (Revolución) as Amado (Mexican capo); Luis Rábago (Principio y Fin) as General Blanco (National Security Advisor); Cristina Michaus (El Tigre de Santa Julia) as Doña Esperanza (Joaquín’s mother); Valentina Acosta (Señora Acero) as Alejandra (Joaquín’s first wife); and Juliette Pardau (De Todas Maneras Rosa) as Graciela (Joaquín’s second wife).

El Chapo is created by Silvana Aguirre Zegarra and produced by Daniel Posada; the first season is directed by Jose Manuel Cravioto and Ernesto Contreras.

Guzmán, who has been accused by law enforcement of running the “largest drug trafficking organization in the world,” has long evaded authorities. After being captured by Mexican authorities in February 2014, he escaped from a maximum security Mexican prison in July 2015 by crawling through an opening in the shower of his cell block that led to a mile-long tunnel to freedom. He was recaptured nearly six months later and extradited to the U.S. earlier this year. His next scheduled court appearance is on May 5, 2017.
