The flamenco flash mob is set to open Seville’s Flamenco Biennial, with Farruquito helping to recruit international participants via YouTube.

The mass flamenco dance will take place in Seville on the evening of September 8, in the Plaza de Triunfo, near the city’s signature Giralda tower and the Seville Cathedral, which houses Christopher Columbus’ tomb.

At the same time, dancers from over 50 countries, representing flamenco schools and other groups dedicated to the Spanish musical genre will participate, performing in their own local guerilla gatherings and then uploading their videos to YouTube, according to Cristobal Ortega, the director of the annual festival, which organizers describe as “the most important flamenco gathering in the world.”

Farruquito created the choreography for the flash dance. He demonstrates the steps for participants to learn via a video on the Flamenco Biennial’s YouTube channel and website.

More than 30,000 people have viewed the instructional clip.
