Chavarria Joins the Cast of Fox’s Drama Pilot “Behind Enemy Lines”

The 27-year-old Latino film and television has joined the cast of Fox’s drama pilot Behind Enemy Lines, a drama pilot loosely based on the 2001 movie.

Written by Nikki Toscano and directed by McG, Behind Enemy Lines is a military soap thriller wherein a group of U.S. soldiers find themselves trapped behind enemy lines. It’s described as a multiple-perspective narrative that closely follows our soldiers on the ground and the officers and service men and women on a nearby aircraft carrier, along with intelligence officers in D.C. as they attempt to bring our heroes home safely and under the radar.

Chavarria will play Ziggy Rodriguez, a Navy pilot, and the son of lifetime career Senior Navy Executive Officer Mateo Rodriguez. He joins a cast that includes Marg Helgenberger and B.J. Britt.

The project hails from 20th Century Fox Television — whose feature sibling was behind the movie — studio-based Temple Hill and Davis Entertainment.

Chavarria, who played Jacob Aguilar in East Los Highwill next be seen in War for the Planet of the Apes, which opens in theaters this July, and the upcoming Hunter Killer. He also appeared in feature Lowriders.

Chavarria to Star in the Naval Action Thriller “Hunter Killer”

The 27-year-old Honduran American actor has joined Millennium Films’ naval action thriller Hunter Killer.

Chavarria will star in a key role, joining Gerard Butler, Common and Gary Oldman in the story of an American submarine commander deployed to Russian waters in order to save the elected Russian president from a military coup.

Chavarria will portray a Navy SEAL aboard the American submarine.

Chavarria recently wrapped filming on 20th Century Fox’s War for the Planet of the Apes in which he plays one of the two human leads alongside Woody Harrelson, set for release July 14, 2017.

His credits include the Los Angeles Film Festival pic Lowriders, from Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Productions, and his Hulu series East Los High that premieres its fourth season July 15.

Donovan Marsh is directing Hunter Killer from a script by Peter Craig and Jamie Moss based on the George Wallace and Don Keith novel Firing Point

Hunter Killer is set to begin filming in London on July 25.

Longoria’s “Lowriders” to Open This Year’s Los Angeles Film Festival

This year’s Los Angeles Film Festival will be a low point for Eva Longoria

Ricardo de Montreuil’s Lowriders, starring the 41-year-old Mexican American actress and former Desperate Housewives star, will open the 2016 LA Film Festival, which will take place June 1-9 at ArcLight Cinemas. It will serve as the world premiere of the film.

Set against the backdrop of East LA’s car culture, the film centers on Danny (Gabriel Chavarria), a talented young street artist caught between the lowrider world inhabited by his old-school father and ex-con brother, and the adrenaline-fueled outlet that defines his self-expression.

Along with Longoria and Chavarria, the film also stars Demián Bichir, Melissa Benoist, Theo Rossi and Tony Revolori.

“We are thrilled to open with Lowriders, a culturally vibrant film that explores familial relationships within a second-generation Mexican family in East LA. Made by filmmakers of color, Lowriders embodies our mission of shining the light on unique voices,” said festival director Stephanie Allain.

Festival passes are on sale to members of organizer Film Independent starting today, and will be available to the general public on April 12.

The full lineup will be announced on April 26.

Prince Royce to Appear in Hulu’s Teen Drama Series “East Los High”

The 26-year-old Dominican American pop/bachata singer is joining the cast of East Los High, the Hulu series about teens growing up in East Los Angeles.

Royce will appear in East Los High’s fourth season playing the recurring role of Vincent, the coach of the Jefferson Park Dance crew.

Royce, who appears to be making moves in the acting world, is also starring in Fox’s live musical The Passion along with Trisha Yearwood, Tyler Perry and Jencarlos Canela.

As for “East Los High,” the current season is under production and will air on Hulu this summer. It also features Danielle Vega, Gabriel Chavarria, Alicia Sixtos and Vannessa Vasquez.

Hulu has picked up Emmy-nominated drama East Los High, starring the 29-year-old Latino actor, for a fourth season with a 12-episode order.

East Los High, produced by Wise Entertainment and the brainchild of executive producer Katie Elmore Mota, has received critical acclaim for its realistic portrayal of inner-city Latino high school students.

The original series, Hulu’s first to get a fourth season pickup, deals with the experiences of teens navigating life in a fictional inner city high school in East Los Angeles.

Along with Chavarria, who will next appear in the film War for the Planet of the Apes, the series also stars Danielle Vega and Alicia Sixtos.

The series was created and executive produced by Carlos Portugal and Kathleen Bedoya.

The Honduran American actor, who recently signed with Paradigm Talent Agency, is finalizing a deal to be one of two human leads in 20th Century Fox’s War of the Planet of the Apes, the latest installment of the franchise.

Matt Reeves returns to direct, shooting expected to begin in October in Vancouver, Canada.

The film’s sequel, Dawn of the Planet of the Apesgrossed $708 million worldwide last year with Reeves at the helm, nearly double the business of the franchise reboot — a major score for Fox and producer Chernin Entertainment.

Monreal to Star in Untitled Lowrider Project from Universal Pictures

The 22-year-old Latina actress has landed a leading role in the untitled lowrider project from Universal Pictures, Blumhouse Productions and Imagine Entertainment.

Gabriel Chavarria, Demian Bichir and Theo Rossi are also starring in the inspirational drama that’s set in the youth culture of East Los Angeles’ world of lowrider cars and street tagging.

The story tells of a teen (Chavarria) caught between his traditional father (Bichir) and his estranged gangbanger brother, Ghost (Rossi), who are both competing in the annual lowrider “Supershow.”

Monreal, who was a regular on Robert Rodriguez’ Matador television series, will portray the romantic interest for Chavarria, taking on the role of a smart, talented maverick of a girl who is a fellow tagger but who also has a scholarship to Columbia University in New York.
