Hulu Renews Chavarria’s “East Los High” for a Fourth Season

Gabriel Chavarria is staying in school…

Hulu has picked up Emmy-nominated drama East Los High, starring the 29-year-old Latino actor, for a fourth season with a 12-episode order.

Gabriel Chavarria

East Los High, produced by Wise Entertainment and the brainchild of executive producer Katie Elmore Mota, has received critical acclaim for its realistic portrayal of inner-city Latino high school students.

The original series, Hulu’s first to get a fourth season pickup, deals with the experiences of teens navigating life in a fictional inner city high school in East Los Angeles.

Along with Chavarria, who will next appear in the film War for the Planet of the Apes, the series also stars Danielle Vega and Alicia Sixtos.

The series was created and executive produced by Carlos Portugal and Kathleen Bedoya.

Mota Signs First-Look Deal with ABC

Mauricio Mota may soon be bringing Latino-themed content to the Alphabet Network.

The Brazilian storyteller, co-president of Wise Entertainment and executive producer of Hulu’s original series East Los High, has signed a first-look deal with ABC.

Mauricio Mota

Mota developed the School of Series, a yearlong television seminar and lab, with Brazilian Entrepreneurship Agency and Escola Superior de Propaganda e Marketing. The newly formed lab will foster writers and producers in Brazil to create more than 30 series for the U.S. and Latin American marketplaces.

Under the pact, ABC will have a first look at projects hailing from the School of Series, giving the lab’s creators a chance to partner with Mota.

The deal marks a development in the booming Latino American market filtering through television production Stateside. Hulu’s East Los High is the streaming network’s first and only series with an all-Latino cast.
