Sony Pictures Classics to Release Jacob Elordi’s Drama “On Swift Horses” in Theaters This April

Jacob Elordi’s latest project will be hitting theaters swiftly this spring.

Sony Pictures Classics has scheduled an April 25 theatrical release date for the The 27-year-old half-Spanish Australian actor’s drama On Swift Horses.

Jacob Elordi, On Swift HorsesThe announcement comes in the wake of news that the film, which co-stars Daisy Edgar-Jones, will close out this year’s South by Southwest Film & TV Festival (SXSW).

Based on the novel by Shannon Pufahl, the film is directed by Daniel Minahan and follows Muriel and her husband Lee as they are beginning a bright new life in California upon Lee’s return from the Korean War. But their newfound stability is upended by the arrival of Lee’s charismatic brother, Julius, a wayward gambler with a secret past. A dangerous love triangle quickly forms. When Julius takes off in search of the young card cheat he’s fallen for, Muriel’s longing for something more propels her into a secret life of her own, gambling on racehorses and exploring a love she never dreamed possible.

Will Poulter, Sasha Calle and Diego Calva also star.

The film is presented by Ley Line Entertainment, FirstGen Content, Cor Cordium, The Dan Corp, Wavelength and Killer Films.

The film is executive produced by Nate Kamiya, David Darby, Claude Amadeo, Randal Sandler, Chris Triana, Jenifer Westphal, Joe Plummer, Christine Vachon, Mason Plotts, Alvaro R. Valente, Bryce Kass, Lauren Shelton, Jeffrey Penman, Elordi, Edgar-Jones, Teddy Schwarzman and John Friedberg.

Elordi’s previous credits include The Kissing Booth film series, Euphoria, Priscilla and Saltburn.

Jacob Elordi in Early Talks to Star in Ridley Scott’s “The Dog Stars”

The 27-year-old half-Spanish Australian actor is in early talks to lead The Dog Stars, Ridley Scott’s post-apocalyptic thriller for 20th Century Studios, based on the 2012 novel by Peter Heller.

Jacob Elordi,Elordi looks to step in for Scott’s Gladiator II star, Paul Mescal, who was forced to depart due to scheduling conflicts after being tapped to star in Sam MendesBeatles anthology, where he’s rumored to be playing Paul McCartney.

Scott first hinted at the possibility of Mescal’s exit in a December conversation with filmmaker Christopher Nolan on Gladiator II.

Set in a near future where an unnamed pandemic has decimated American society, The Dog Stars will have Elordi playing Hig, a civilian pilot living a lonely life on an abandoned Colorado airbase with his dog and a tough ex-marine. The two men couldn’t be more mismatched but depend on each other to fend off roaming invaders. When a random transmission beams through the radio of his 1956 Cessna, the voice ignites a hope deep inside the pilot that a better life exists outside their tightly controlled perimeter. Risking everything, he flies past his point of no return and follows its static-broken trail.

Mark L. Smith penned the script for the film, which is the next on Scott will direct.

Known for starring on HBO’s Euphoria, Elordi is due to shoot that series’ final season next year, along with Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights for Warner Bros, where he stars opposite Margot Robbie.

This year, he’ll be seen playing the title role in Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein for Netflix.

Other upcoming projects include On Swift Horses, the Daniel Minahan drama co-starring Daisy Edgar-Jones, which premiered at TIFF, and Prime Video’s Australian miniseries The Narrow Road to the Deep North.

The 25-year-old Spanish-Australian actor and Euphoria star will star in Ley Line Entertainment and FirstGen Content have set an all-star ensemble for its co-production of On Swift Horses.

Daniel Minahan will direct with Peter Spears and FirstGen’s Mollye Asher producing.

Based on the novel by Shannon Pufahl, the story follows newlyweds Muriel and Lee who are beginning a bright new life when he returns from the Korean War. However, this newfound stability is upended by the arrival of Lee’s charismatic younger brother, Julius, a wayward gambler with a secret. A dangerous love triangle is quickly formed, as the three vow to start a new life together in California, but their bid for the American Dream is blown apart when Julius disappears and heads for Las Vegas instead. Muriel embarks on a secret life of her own, gambling on racehorses and discovering a love she never thought possible.

Ley Line and FirstGen are financing alongside Wavelength.

The project has begun filming in Los Angeles.
