Jacob Elordi Nominated for BAFTA Film Rising Star Award

Jacob Elordi’s meteoric rise continues…

The 26-year-old half-Spanish Australian actor has been nominated for the prestigious BAFTA Film Rising Star Award 2024 by the by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts.

Jacob Elordi,Following his breakout roles in The Kissing Booth film trilogy and Euphoria, Elordi led Saltburn opposite Barry Keoghan, Amazon Prime Video’s BAFTA-nominated psychological drama from Emerald Fennell. He also starred as Elvis Presley in the biographical film Priscilla.

Elordi will compete against Bridgerton star Phoebe DynevorThe Bear’s Ayo Edebiri, Mia McKenna-Bruce, who led hit British indie film How to Have Sexand Talk to Me’s Sophie Wilde.

Nominees were announced by actor and producer Stephen Graham at a press conference hosted by film critic and radio host, Ali Plumb.

The jury, chaired by Anna Higgs, BAFTA Film Committee Chair, featured actors Daisy Edgar-JonesṢọpẹ́ Dìrísù and Himesh Patel, casting directors Lucy Bevan (The Batman), and Nina Gold (Game of Thrones), film producer Adam Ackland (The End We Start From) alongside leading industry specialists.

Last year’s gong was won by Sex Education’s Emma Mackey and previous winners include Letitia Wright, Daniel Kaluuya, John Boyega and Tom Holland.

“These remarkable individuals represent what BAFTA and the EE Rising Star Award stand for as the future of the film industry, embodying innovation, dedication, and a commitment to storytelling that captivates audiences worldwide,” said BAFTA CEO Jane Millichip.

Host Ali Plumb added: “Each rising star talent deserves this spotlight, having provided extraordinary performances serving as inspiration for the next generation.”

Jacob Elordi is feelin’ the (salt)burn

The 24-year-old Spanish-Australian actor will star in Academy Award-winning writer and director Emerald Fennell’s next film Saltburn.

Jacob ElordiElordi will star opposite Barry Keoghan and Rosamund Pike in the project from MRC Film.

Principal photography is set to begin this summer in the United Kingdom.

The film will be produced by Fennell and LuckyChap Entertainment’s Josey McNamara, Tom Ackerley and Margot Robbie.

Described as a story of obsession, other plot details are being kept under wraps.

The film is Fennell’s follow-up to Promising Young Womanwhich was nominated for several Oscars and won Best Original Screenplay for Fennell.

Saltburn will mark Elordi’s most high-profile feature film role following his breakout performance as Nate on the massive HBO hit series EuphoriaHe recently was seen in Adrian Lyne’s feature Deep Water, opposite Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas.

Ana Cruz KayneCruz Kayne is part of a roster of new cast additions that include Kingsley Ben-AdirRhea Perlman, Ncuti Gatwa, Emerald Fennell, Sharon Rooney, Scott Evans, Connor Swindells, Ritu Arya and Jamie Demetriou.

They join Margot Robbie, who will star in the titular role, Ryan Gosling, America Ferrara, Kate McKinnon, Simu Liu, Ariana Greenblatt, Emma Mackey, Alexandra Shipp, Issa Rae, Michael Cera, Hari Nef and Will Ferrell.

Greta Gerwig is directing and co-wrote the script with Noah Baumbach.

Plot details are unknown, but given Gerwig’s track record as a director, one can expect this won’t be a typical take on the doll’s story.

Robbie is producing the film under her LuckyChap Entertainment production banner along with LuckyChap’s Tom Ackerley.

The film will be released worldwide sometime in 2023.

Netflix to Premiere Season 3 of “The Crown” with Helena Bonham Carter in November

Netflix has announced that the third season of its royal drama The Crown, starring the 53-year-old part-Spanish actress, will premiere on November 17.

This comes nearly two years after the airing of the second season of the British drama, which launched on December 8, 2017.

Season 3 of The Crown starts in 1964 and will cover events such as the rise of the Beatles and England winning the soccer World Cupin 1966. Characters such as Camilla Parker Bowleswill also start to emerge in the next season.

Written by Peter Morgan, the third season will have a new cast from the previous two seasons. 

Oscar winner Olivia Colman stars as Queen Elizabeth II, taking over the role from Claire FoyTobias MenziesBen Danielsand Bonham Carter will play Prince PhilipLord Snowdonand Princess Margaret, respectively.

Parker Bowles is played by Emerald Fennelland Prince Charlesby Josh O’ConnorMarion Baileyplays The Queen Mother.

Erin Dohertystars as Princess Anne and Jason Watkins as Prime Minister Harold Wilson in the series, which runs through 1977.
