Javier Veiga Receives NBC Pilot Order for English Remake of His Hit Spanish Series “Pequeñas Coincidencias”

Javier Veiga is getting a second chance to remake his Spanish hit series…

NBC has given another pilot order to the romantic comedy Someone Out There, which will be executive produced by 48-year-old Spanish writer and actor.

Javier Veiga

The network had originally ordered the project to pilot last year, but plans were halted due to the pandemic.

Someone Out There is a single-camera romantic comedy about two set-in-their-ways adults who are challenged by very unexpected strangers to become the best versions of themselves in order to find love and possibly each other.

Based on the Spanish format Pequeñas Coincidencias, created by Veiga, the English version comes Matt Hubbard and writing team Josh Siegal & Dylan Morgan. Produced by Universal Television, it is executive produced by Veiga and Emiliano Calemzuk, the former president of Fox Television Studios who was also CEO of Shine Group Americas.

The pilot was originally set to star Ryan Hansen and Aimee Carrero, but producers will look to recast.

Ruehl Cast in Fox’s “El Jefe” Pilot

HBO’s Luck may have run out of suerte… But that doesn’t mean Mercedes Ruehl’s luck has.

The 63-year part-Cuban actress, who was promoted from guest star to series regular or the second season of HBO’s recently cancelled drama series, will star opposite Ryan Hansen in Fox’s comedy pilot El Jefe.

Mercedes Ruehl

From writers David Guarascio and Moses Port, the project centers on the affable but lost upper-class 30-year-old Josh (Hansen) who, tossed out of his Brentwood home, moves in with his adoring longtime Latina nanny Delmi (Ruehl), a vibrant woman and a real life force “of sturdy peasant stock.”

Ruehl has experienced a rollercoaster week… After spending several years looking after her family, the Oscar and Tony winning actress was prepared to return to acting when she signed on as a series regular on Luck. But HBO suddenly ended the series on Wednesday following the death of a third horse on the set.

Ruehl wasn’t down and out though. After reading the script for El Jefe and meeting with the writers, Ruehl decided to sign on for the project. She’s expected to start production on the pilot on Monday, less than a week after Luck was cancelled.

In addition to Ruehl, Jessica Camacho has been cast in the pilot. She’ll play Lucia, the girlfriend of Delmi’s son (Victor Rasuk).

Nogueira Cast in Fox Comedy Pilot

She traveled the country in the national tour of Broadway’s hit musical In The Heights… But Ana Nogueira’s next project is taking her to Los Angeles.

Ana Nogueira

The Philadephia-native has been cast in Fox’s comedy pilot El Jefe, which centers on an affable but lost 30-year-old (Ryan Hansen) who, tossed out of his Brentwood home, moves in with his longtime Latin American nanny and finds himself in a family and work life very different than the ones he grew up in.

Nogueira, a graduate of The Boston Conservatory, will play the nanny’s daughter: a beautiful, fiercely competitive doctor-in-residence.
