Prime Video Orders Second Season of Marta Hazas’ Hit “Dias Mejores”

Prime Video has ordered a second season of the hit Spanish series Dias Mejores, starring the 44-year-old Spanish actress, after the success of its first season.

Marta HazasCreated by Cristóbal Garrido and Adolfo Valor, the new season will continue to follow the stories of its lead characters Sara (Hazas), Pardo (Erick Elías), Graci (Alba Planas), Luis (Francesc Orella) and Dr. Laforet (Blanca Portillo).

The co-production between ViacomCBS International Studios (VIS) and Madrid-based Zeta Studios, producers of Netflix hit, Elite, will stream exclusively on Prime Video in Spain.

The new season just started shooting and includes an additional robust cast led by Marta Aledo as Emi, Sara’s sister; Carol Rovira as Claudia, the teacher of Pardo’s children, and Sonia Almarcha as Maite, the mother of Graci’s late boyfriend.

In Mejores Dias, creators-showrunners Valor and Garrido explore the challenges of getting over the loss of a loved one and of being a single parent, among other issues. While each character is coping with different personal problems, they all see the same therapist, Dr. Laforet.

Season 2 sees Sara battling a new blow in her life and the arrival of her sister Emi will not make things any easier. Meanwhile, Pardo is wary of starting a new relationship and how that might impact his family. Single mom Graci will have to deal with her mother-in-law who will bring back painful memories of the past. Luis (Francesc Orella) sees his plans to spend more time with family upended by unexpected news.

The series will again be directed by Alejo Flah along with Mar Olid, Violeta Zalama and Adolfo Valor.

Season 2 is penned by the same writers of the first season: Daniel Martín Serrano, Sara Alquezar and Alba Carballal.

Paramount+ has given the go ahead to the 61-year-old Colombian actor’s series Sinaloa’s First Lady, which will chronicle the life of El Chapo’s infamous Beauty Queen Bride, Emma Coronel.

John LeguizamoStarring and produced by Leguizamo with Frida Torresblanco also producing, the narrative series will chronicle the fascinating yet volatile life of Emma Coronel — an innocent farm girl turned fierce icon who rises to become Mexico’s most formidable crime wife.

It’s described as a story of love, sex, drugs, and danger.

Produced by VIS in association with Braven Films, the series has been greenlit for development to debut exclusively on Paramount+ in Latin America and all international markets.

In all, Paramount Global plans to commission 150 international originals for Paramount+ within three years.

Paramount+ Greenlights Luis Gerardo Méndez’s Film Adaptation of Popular Mexican Podcast “Toxicomania”

Paramount+ has given the greenlight to the film Toxicomania, hailing from the 40-year-old Mexican actor and producer.

Luis Gerardo MéndezThe project is an adaptation of the popular Sonoro podcast of the same name. The podcast tells a fictionalized story based on the real-life events following the legalization of drugs in Mexico.

The project is the first from Méndez and Gerardo Gatica’s first-look deal with VIS, a division of Paramount, via the pair’s production company, Cine Vaquero.

Toxicomania is set in 1940s Mexico City and follows Dr. Leopoldo Salazar Viniegra (Méndez), a brilliant psychiatrist who led a short-lived revolution to legalize drug use in the country.

After facing humiliation from the international medical community and being challenged with a bet from his students, Viniegra presents his unorthodox idea to the then-president of México, General Lázaro Cárdenas. To everyone’s surprise, the president concedes to legalizing drugs, but not before Viniegra overcomes several challenges, including the morality of the era, armed groups, and political pressures.

Within 48 hours of its premiere in 2021, Toxicomania became the most successful Spanish-language fiction podcast hitting No. 1 in Mexico and Latin America and No. 2 in the U.S.

The film will be directed by Sebastián Hofmann and written by David Gaitán. Gatica and Méndez will serve as executive producers.

Jaime Camil Signs First Look Deal with Paramount’s VIS for Paramount+ TV & Film Projects

The 48-year-old Mexican actor/singer and Jane the Virgin scene-stealer has signed a first look deal with VIS, a division of Paramount, to develop a variety of television and film projects for Paramount+.

Before making a splash in the English-language market as Rogelio de la Vega on the CW’s Jane the Virgin, Camil was already a bona fide star in Latin America.

While working on Jane the Virgin and after the show concluded in 2019, he worked as a voice actor in multiple films including CocoHotel Transylvania 3, and The Secret Life of Pets and The Secret Life of Pets 2; and on the small screen: Elena of AvalorDuckTalesBoJack Horseman, and Green Eggs and Ham.

Camil most recently starred as Doc Jorge Lopez in the Apple TV+ comedy Schmigadoon! and the Steven Soderbergh feature Kimi released in February via HBO Max.

He is currently shooting the Vicente Fernandez biopic The Idol of the People in the titular role. The Caracol TV production will be released exclusively on Netflix domestically.

The 44-year-old Colombian and his brother Juancho Cardona’s production company 11:11 Films & TV has signed a first-look deal with VIS, a division of ViacomCBS.

The agreement will encompass creating and developing content including series, films, and special-format programs for a global audience.

Manolo is a notable actor and producer known for his work in NarcosWho Killed Sara?Covert Affairs, and Reign. His credits also include work in Spanish language television in RubirosaEl Cartel de Los Sapos, and Maria Magdalena, in which he portrayed Jesus Christ.

His brother Juancho is a film and television director and producer with a long history of creating premium content in Latin America and serves as 11:11 Films & TV’s General Director. The duo founded the company in 2005.

Pantaya & Amazon Prime Video Renew Ana de la Reguera’s Eponymous series “Ana” for Two More Seasons

The 44-year-old Mexican actress’ eponymous series based on her life for Pantaya in collaboration with Amazon Prime Video has been renewed for seasons 2 and 3.

Anaproduced by VIS, a division of ViacomCBS— is a bilingual comedy created, produced, written, and starring de la Reguera about an aging actress trying to find her place in the world and in Hollywood as she nears her 40s.

“I am really happy to continue sharing this story and that the audience has received it as we expected,” de la Reguera said in a statement. “The next two seasons will be a lot of fun! Thanks to ViacomCBS, Amazon Prime Video, and Pantaya for all the trust since the beginning of this project. They have allowed me to grow a lot as a creator and I will be infinitely grateful to them.”

In season 2, Ana will try to keep her sanity and continue to deal with her mother who now lives with her in Los Angeles, while starring in a television series of bad 90s sitcoms.

In the third part of the series, Ana must rebuild her life and regain her credibility as an actress.

Series co-stars include Carlos Miranda, Tina Romero, Paulina Dávila, Ali Gardoqui, Augusto Gardoqui, Paly Duval and Eduardo “Lalo” España.

Ana’s forthcoming seasons will premiere exclusively on Pantaya in the United States and Puerto Rico and Amazon Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories around the world.

Season one, which was nominated for a GLAAD Award for Best Television Series Scripted in Spanish, is available to stream now via Pantaya and Amazon.
