Cameron Diaz Coming Out of Retirement to Star Opposite Jamie Foxx in Netflix’s “Back in Action”

Cameron Diaz is heading back into action

The 49-year-old Cuban American actress will come out of retirement to star in the Netflix film Back in Action, in which she’ll star opposite Jamie Foxx.

Cameron DiazThe storyline for the action-comedy is being kept under wraps, but Seth Gordon is directing from a script he wrote with Brendan O’Brien.

Beau Bauman is producing for Good One Productions alongside Gordon for Exhibit A, with Foxx, Datari Turner, O’Brien and Mark McNair executive producing.

Foxx teased the new project on Twitter via an audio clip of a phone conversation with Diaz, who confesses that she’s “so excited” yet “anxious” about getting back into acting.

Says Diaz, “I don’t know how to do this, you know?”

Subsequently Foxx brought Tom Brady onto the line to offer her “a few tips on how to un-retire.” Foxx refers to Brady as “the GOAT,” who announced his retirement after 22 seasons in February, backtracking on that decision a little over a month later.

“Cameron I hope you aren’t mad I recorded this, but no turning back now. Had to call in the GOAT to bring back another GOAT,” Foxx captioned the post. “@CameronDiaz and I are BACK IN ACTION – our new movie with @NetflixFilm. Production starting later this year!!”

Diaz officially confirmed her retirement from acting in 2018, having last appeared on the feature side in Will Gluck’s adaptation of the musical Annie for Sony. The beloved four-time Golden Globe nominee is best known for her turns in such films as Bad TeacherKnight and Day, the Shrek and Charlie’s Angels franchises, My Sister’s Keeper, What Happens in VegasThe HolidayGangs of New YorkVanilla SkyAny Given SundayBeing John Malkovich and There’s Something About Mary, among many others.

Whether she’ll be back to acting consistently on the heels of Back in Action is not yet clear.

Freestyle Digital Media Acquires North American Rights to Robledo’s “Dependent’s Day”

Freestyle Digital Media has picked up the North American rights to Dependent’s Day, a millennial love story starring the Latina actress.

The film explores what happens to men when women are the breadwinners.

Directed by Michael David Lynch, the relationship comedy follows Cam (Joe Burke), an unemployed actor who is claimed as a dependent by his successful girlfriend Alice (Robledo). As he stumbles from one humiliating job to the next, Cam still tries to keep his dream alive as well as his relationship. Will he ever rise to the occasion? Will Alice have the patience to find out?

Lisa Ann Walker, Shannon Lucio, Brian George and Todd Bridges co-star in the film, which won the Audience Award for Comedy at the 2016 Cinequest Film Festival.

An October 18 video on demand launch is planned.

Robledo’s other credits include film appearances in Going the Distance and What Happens in Vegas, as well as television roles in Teen Wolf, Agent Carter and Gossip Girl.
