Jaime Camil Signs First Look Deal with Paramount’s VIS for Paramount+ TV & Film Projects

The 48-year-old Mexican actor/singer and Jane the Virgin scene-stealer has signed a first look deal with VIS, a division of Paramount, to develop a variety of television and film projects for Paramount+.

Jaime CamilUnder the terms of the agreement, he’ll create, develop and produce exclusive Spanish language and majority-Spanish language scripted and non-scripted content for the streaming service.

Added Camil, “Paramount is home to some of the most beloved and iconic films and television shows of all time. I am thrilled and humbled to join their family. Throughout history, stories have been one of the most potent drivers of society and culture. Storytelling generates empathy and it imparts wisdom through characters in place of lived experience.

Before making a splash in the English-language market as Rogelio de la Vega on the CW’s Jane the Virgin, Camil was already a bona fide star in Latin America.

While working on Jane the Virgin and after the show concluded in 2019, he worked as a voice actor in multiple films including CocoHotel Transylvania 3, and The Secret Life of Pets and The Secret Life of Pets 2; and on the small screen: Elena of AvalorDuckTalesBoJack Horseman, and Green Eggs and Ham.

Camil most recently starred as Doc Jorge Lopez in the Apple TV+ comedy Schmigadoon! and the Steven Soderbergh feature Kimi released in February via HBO Max.

He is currently shooting the Vicente Fernandez biopic The Idol of the People in the titular role. The Caracol TV production will be released exclusively on Netflix domestically.

The 45-year-old Mexican actor, singer and television personality and Jane The Virgin) and Sandra Echeverria are set to star in the English and Spanish-language comedy My Boyfriend’s Meds.

In the film, Echeverria plays Jess, a talented, high-powered marketing executive who falls for Hank (Camil), a charming mattress store owner she meets while shopping for a new mattress. When the two go on a surprise trip to an island resort, Hank forgets to bring the prescription medicine he takes for a string of disorders, meaning he is no longer able to control his various symptoms.

Production is underway in Mexico on the film, which is being made by Lionsgate and Televisa JV Pantelion, Hands of Stone producer Fuego Films and Mexican outfit Traziende.

The film will also star Brian Baumgartner, Ana Belena, Kevin Holt, Daniel Tovar, Pamela Almaza, Juan SolerJames Maslow, Brooke Shields and Jason Alexander.

Argentinian filmmaker Diego Kaplan (Desire) is directing from a screenplay by Gary Marks & Randi Mayem Singer.

Camil plays Gina Rodriguez’s father on hit CWseries Jane the Virgin and recently voiced the character of Chupacabra in Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation.

Echeverría recently starred in comedy Mas Sabe El DiabloPor Viejo and Telemundo series La Querida Del Centauro and voiced the character of Maria in The Secret Life of Pets.

Pantelion recently teamed up with MGM and 3Pas Studios on remake Overboard with Eugenio Derbez, Anna Faris and Eva Longoria.

Fuego is developing a biopic of baseball star Roberto Clemente from O.J.: Made In America director Ezra Edelman. Traziende’s recent releases include American CuriousCómo Cortar A Tu Patán and Más Sabe El Diablo Por Viejo with up-comers including Como Novio De Pueblo.

Camil to Star in Indie Boxing Film “Glass Jaw”

The 43-year-old Mexican actor/singer has joined the cast of the indie boxing film Glass Jaw, directed by Jeff Celentano (Breaking Point).

Glass Jaw is the redemption story of Travis Austin (Lee Kholafai), a one-time boxing champion, who goes to prison and loses everything. After his release, he experiences the trials and tribulations of redeeming his reputation, his belt and Dana Sasso (Korrina Rico), his one true love.

In addition to Camil, Kholafai and Rico, the film also stars Reynaldo Gallegos, Jon Gries (Taken), Ashlee Macropoulos (This Just In), Mark Rolston (The Departed), Vernon Wells (Commando) and Steven Williams (21 Jump Street).

Shooting is currently underway in Los Angeles, with Glass Jaw set for release later this year.

Camil, a Mexican telenovela star who has risen to acclaim with his role on the CW’s Jane the Virgin, previously appeared in the film Pulling Strings and as a voice character in The Secret Life of Pets.

Illumination Entertainment and Universal Pictures have announced plans to release their sequel to the unexpected hit The Secret Life of Pets, which features the 48-year-old Mexican American actor as part of the voice cast, in the summer of 2018.

The announcement comes on the heels that the animated film has barked, meowed and hopped its way to more than $400M at the worldwide box office.

Domestically, the total through Tuesday is $300.3M. Internationally, where there is still a lot of rollout to come, the total is $103.5M.

The sequel is set for release on July 13, 2018.

Domestically, Pets debuted in early July as the best opening for an original film, animated or otherwise, with a $104.4M start, and held the No. 1 spot for two weekends.

Voiced by Louis C.K., Eric Stonestreet, Kevin Hart and a litter of other well-known names, its next high-profile Continental launch will be at the Venice Film Festival, where Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri will be honored.

For pet owners and the pet-curious, the concept of what our pets get up to when we leave the house is universal and clearly has clicked in a highly animated summer. Pets has opened No. 1 in 18 offshore markets to date and has 48 more territories to go.

Illumination Entertainment has released the first trailer for The Secret Life of Pets, with the 47-year-old Mexican American actor/stand up comedian a member of the voice cast.

The Universal Pictures animated film, which will be released on July 8, 2016, answers the question of what your pets do when you leave them at home for the day.

Louis C.K., Eric Stonestreet, Kevin Hart, Ellie Kemper, Lake Bell, Jenny Slate, Bobby Moynihan, Hannibal Buress and Albert Brooks chip in for the comedy, directed by Despicable Me and Despicable Me 2 helmer Chris Renaud, co-directed by Yarrow Cheney and produced by Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri and longtime collaborator Janet Healy.

Brian Lynch and Cinco Paul & Ken Daurio penned the script.
