Louis C.K. to Perform at This Year’s Stand Up for Heroes

Louis C.K. is taking a stand…

The 49-year-old Mexican American comedian, actor, writer, producer, director and editor will take part in this year’s Stand Up for Heroes on November 1 at the Theater at Madison Square Garden.

Presented by the Bob Woodruff Foundation and the New York Comedy Festival, it will mark the 10th anniversary of the annual event that’s raised more than $33 million for wounded, ill and injured veterans, service members and their families.

Louis C.K. joins an all-star roster that includes Jim GaffiganJerry SeinfeldBruce Springsteen and Jon Stewart.

“We look forward to Stand Up for Heroes each year not only because it’s grown into New York’s biggest night of comedy and music, but because a decade of laughter has translated into a lifetime of immeasurable support for our nation’s injured heroes,” said Bob Woodruff, co-founder and ABC News correspondent. “As we commemorate the 15th anniversary of 9/11 and the wars that have followed, it’s important not to lose sight of the fact that a small percentage of our population stood up for us — it’s now our turn to stand up for them.”

Woodruff and wife Lee established the Bob Woodruff Foundation after the then-recently installed co-anchor of ABC News was critically injured in 2006 by a roadside bomb in Iraq. The Woodruffs partnered with the New York Comedy Festival founders Caroline Hirsch and Andrew Fox to stage the first Stand Up for Heroes event in 2007.

“We could not be more proud to partner with the Bob Woodruff Foundation to celebrate such an incredible milestone as the 10-year anniversary of Stand Up for Heroes,” says Caroline Hirsch, Bob Woodruff Foundation board member and founder of the New York Comedy Festival and Carolines on Broadway. “The organization’s remarkable perseverance, passion and contribution to wounded soldiers and their families is outstanding. Nothing would be possible without the time and dedication from all of the performers and supporters of the organization over the years.”\

After its start at New York’s Town Hall and, later, the Beacon Theatre, the event moved to MSG in 2013.

Carey Inks Three-Picture Deal with Hallmark Channel

Mariah Carey’s career has reached a new Hallmark

The 46-year-old half-Venezuelan American singer, actress and producers has signed a three-picture deal with the Hallmark Channel.

Mariah Carey

Carey will develop, executive produce, direct and co-star in a trio of original movies, as well as compose and produce an original song for each TV movie.

The first pic in the two-year pact is slated to premiere during the channel’s 2017 Countdown to Valentine’s Day programming event.

Carey and Hallmark previously teamed up on December’s original movie A Christmas Melody, in which the multiple Grammy-winner starred and made her directorial debut. It drew 3.9 million viewers.

She also has the network’s most-watched holiday special to her credit: the same month’s Mariah Carey’s Merriest Christmas musical event.

Both were part of Hallmark’s Countdown to Christmas block and came as the Hallmark Channel sponsored her sold-out Christmas concerts at New York City’s Beacon Theatre.

“We are honored to continue our collaboration with the multi-talented Mariah Carey,” said Michelle Vicary, EVP Programming at Crown Media Family Networks. “It’s rare to work with a talent who can produce, direct, star and also compose original music for a project, and we know she will deliver for our viewers once again.”

Carey also has her E! docuseries Mariah’s World bowing in the fall on E! which follows her on her international tour.

He previously sold out two Madison Square Garden shows this month, and if he sells out the third, he’ll be the first comedian to sell out the venue three times in one month for the same tour.

Louis C.K. sold out the first two shows without marketing or publicity, aside from an email he sent to his mailing list. January 24 will mark his final show of the tour, and he will begin production on his Emmy-winning FX‘s comedy series Louie shortly after the tour’s conclusion.

Louis C.K. was nominated for best actor in a TV series, musical or comedy at Sunday’s Golden Globes for the critically acclaimed series. Season five is expected this spring.

He has a history of marketing directly to his fans. In 2011, he sold a comedy special taped at New York’s Beacon Theatre on his website for $5. Sales topped $1 million.

His latest tour also saw him sell out the Chicago Theatre four times last week as well as the Forum in Los Angeles.
