Café Tacvba to Receive Icon Award at This Year’s La Musa Awards

There’s no doubt Café Tacvba is one of the Latin music world’s most iconic bands. And, now they have the award to prove it.

The trailblazing Mexican alt-rockers will be honored with the Icon Award at the La Musa Awards, which will take place on October 15 at The Fillmore Miami Beach Jackie Gleason Theatre in Miami Beach.

The icon designation is fitting for a band that, over the last 25 years, helped elevate rock by fusing it with hip-hop, electronic music, and folkloric sounds.

Recently, the act – consisting of Rubén Albarrán, Emmanuel “Meme” del Real, José Alfredo “Joselo” Rangel, and Enrique “Quique” Rangel – celebrated the 20th anniversary of its seminal album Re, which revolutionized rock en español.

Their most recent album, El Objeto Antes Llamado Disco, was deemed the Best Latin Album of 2012 by iTunes.

Café Tacvba will also perform during the awards show, produced by the Latin Songwriters Hall of Fame (LSHOF). The non-profit was founded by renowned songwriters/composers Desmond Child and Rudy Perez in 2012 to honor their peers who have impacted music on a global scale.

Cuban music mogul Emilio Estefan, Chilean singer/songwriter Myriam Hernandez, Argentine composer/performer Gustavo Santaolalla, Argentine singer/songwriter Diego Torres, Colombian songwriter Hector Ochoa Cardenas and Salvadoran singer/songwriter Alvaro Torres are the six music luminaries being inducted into the LSHOF during this year’s ceremony. Quincy Jones will receive the Desi Arnaz Pioneer Award while Chilean rock icon Beto Cuevas will be recognized with a special La Musa Conquistador Award.

Café Tacvba Celebrating Its 25th Anniversary with a U.S. Tour

Café Tacvba is ready to celebrate a major milestone on the road…

The iconic Mexican band will celebrate its 25th anniversary with more than a dozen tour dates beginning with a stop in Miami on October 16.

The band was founded in 1989, and since then has had the same musical lineup. Members include of Rubén Isaac Albarrán Ortega (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Emmanuel “Meme” del Real Díaz (keyboards, piano, programming, rhythm guitar, melodica, vocals), José Alfredo “Joselo” Rangel Arroyo (lead guitar, vocals), and Enrique “Quique” Rangel Arroyo (bass guitar, electric upright bass, vocals). Mexican folk music player Alejandro Flores is considered the honorary 5th tacubo, as he’s played tviolin in almost every Café Tacvba concert since 1994

The 20re — ct25 Tour will feature the Latin alternative band performing some of its biggest hits as the group tours across the U.S., hitting Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, Las Vegas and San Francisco.

Before their tour officially begins, the band will also appear at the Supersonico Festival in Los Angeles on October 11, where they will perform with major acts like Calle 13, Ana Tijoux, Bomba Estereo, La Vida Boheme and La Santa Cecilia.

Additional dates will be announced at a later date.

Café Tacvba to Tour in 14 U.S. Cities Starting in August

Café Tacvba is ready to perk up the United States with the band’s Latin art rock sounds…

The Mexican band, consisting of Rubén Isaac Albarrán Ortega, Emmanuel “Meme” del Real Díaz, José Alfredo “Joselo” Rangel Arroyo and Enrique “Quique” Rangel Arroyo, has announced plans to perform in 14 U.S. cities including L.A.’s Nokia Theatre, New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom and Austin City Limits Live.

Café Tacvba’s tour will kick off August 29 at The Warfield in San Francisco.

It’s the first extended U.S. tour by the eminent Mexican quartet since the release of their album El Objecto Antes Llamado Disco, widely acclaimed for the 20-plus-year-old group’s progressive fusion of rock, folkloric and electronic sounds.

Earlier this year, the band gave its first-ever performance at the SXSW Film Conference and Festival, as well as took the stage at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, California.

Café Tacvba to Give First-Ever Performance at SXSW

It’s turning out to be a busy year for Café Tacvba…

The Mexican alternative rock band will give their first-ever performance at the SXSW Film Conference and Festival.

Café Tacvba will headline a March 14th lineup at the SXSW Auditorium Shores Stage in Downtown Austin that will include opening sets from Molotov and Bajofondo.

It’s the band’s latest booking for 2013…

Prior to Café Tacvba’s trip to Austin, the band will perform at the at the 4th Green Festival of Musical Culture on February 23 in Ciudad del Saber on the banks of the Panama Canal.

Band members Rubén Albarrán, Emmanuel “Meme” del Real, José Alfredo “Joselo” Rangel and Enrique “Quique” Rangel will also perform at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, California on Saturday, April 13th.

The Café Tacvba concerts will include live performances of songs from El Objeto Antes Llamado Disco, which iTunes editors named the best Latin album of 2012. The album, the band’s first new release in five years, has been called “ambitious, groundbreaking and quite simply, superb… another masterpiece… forty minutes of pure musical bliss!”

Café Tacvba to Perform at Panama’s Green Festival of Musical Culture

Café Tacvba will be spreading its green message through music in Panama later this month…

The Mexican rock band, which earned Best Album honors for their latest album El Objeto Antes Llamado Disco from iTunes editors last year, will perform at the 4th Green Festival of Musical Culture on February 23 in Ciudad del Saber on the banks of the Panama Canal.

Known for supporting conservationist activities, Café Tacvba – comprised of members Rubén Albarrán, Emmanuel “Meme” del Real, José Alfredo “Joselo” Rangel and Enrique “Quique” Rangel– will share the stage with fellow Mexicans of the Telefunka group plus colleagues from Chile, Colombia and Panama, festival organizers said.

The Green Festival has established itself as an occasion for promoting environmental sustainability based on criteria for its efficient organization, development and production.

Besides Cafe Tacvba and Telefunka, this year’s festival will feature Chile’s Astro, Colombia’s Monsieur Perine and Alfonso Espriella, and the Panamanians Cienfue, Carlos Mendez, Pureza Natural, Orquesta Garash, Os Almirantes, Calibre 57 and DJ Rhythm X, according to organizers.

Following their appearance at the Green Festival, Café Tacvba will perform at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, California in April.

3Ball MTY to Perform at Coachella…

Erick Rincon, Sergio Zavala (Dj Sheeqo Beat) and Alberto Presenda (Dj Otto) have lined up one of the biggest gigs of their lives…

The members of Mexico’s DJ collective 3Ball MTY, winners of the Best New Artist award at last year’s Latin Grammys, have been added to the lineup for the prestigious Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, California.

It’ll be 3Ball MTY’s first appearance at the music festival after their banner year in 2012 that included winning nine awards at last year’s Billboard Mexican Music Awards and seeing their album Inténtalo named the breakthrough album of the year by iTunes editors.

Rincon, Zavala and Presenda will perform on Saturday, April 13 and Saturday, April 20.

But 3Ball MTY won’t be the only Latin acts performing at Coachella 2013, which will once again take place over two weekends (April 12-14 and 19-21).

Mexican-American singer-songwriter Sixto Rodriguez, the star of the Oscar-nominated documentary Searching for Sugar Man, will perform at Coachella, as previously reported. Rodriguez, who dropped out of sight after releasing two extraordinary albums in the early 1970s that didn’t sell well stateside, will perform on Sunday, April 14 and Sunday, April 21.

Rising star DJ Danny Avila will make his Coachella debut. The 17-year-old EDM wunderkind, who recently released the remixes for his smash single “Breaking Your Fall,” will take the stage on Sunday, April 14 and Sunday, April 21.

Mexican alternative rock band Café Tacvba, recipient of iTunes’ Best Album honors last year for El Objeto Antes Llamado Disco, will perform on Saturday, April 13 and Saturday, April 20

iTunes Editors Name Morrison This Year’s Best Latin Artist…

It’s turning out to be the best year of Carla Morrison’s career…

iTunes editors have released their lists of the best music of 2012, and they’ve named the 26-year-old Mexican singer as the best artist in the Latin music category.

Morrison, who earned her first Grammy nomination earlier this month in the Best Latin Rock, Urban or Alternative Album category, received kudos for her latest album Déjenme Llorar.

In November, the critically acclaimed album and the heartbreaking single of the same name helped Morrison win two Latin Grammys.

Meanwhile, iTunes editors awarded Mexican group Café Tacvba’s latest album El Objeto Antes Llamado Disco with Best Album honors, while naming Mexican group 3BallMTY’s Inténtalo this year’s breakthrough album.
