Gloria Calderón Kellett Appointed to Television Academy’s Executive Committee

The 47-year-old Cuban American award-winning television writer/creator has been appointed to the Television Academy’s Executive Committee for 2023 by chairman and CEO Frank Scherma.

Gloria Calderón KellettCalderon Kellet is among six new committee members that includes Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO, HBO/HBO Max ContentGeorge Cheeks, President and CEO, CBS, and Chief Content Officer, News and Sports, Paramount+Pearlena Igbokwe, Chairman, Universal Studio Group; Lisa Nishimura, Vice President, Independent and Documentary Films at Netflix; and Zack Van Amburg, Chief Content Officer and Head of Worldwide Video for Apple TV+.

They will advise on the organization’s diverse initiatives and help lead the Academy throughout the upcoming year.

“I’m thrilled to welcome these accomplished executives back to serve on our Executive Committee,” said Scherma in a statement. “They will continue to bring their extensive experience and insight to our dynamic organization.”

Additionally, the Academy’s Board of Governors has elected the following Peer Group Governors as their representatives on the executive committee for the 2023 term: Eddie Bonin (special visual effects), Debra Curtis (television executives), Jill Dickerson (reality programming) and Troy Underwood (children’s programming). Cris Abrego, chair of the Television Academy Foundation, will also serve on the committee.

Calderón Kellett’s recent credits include the One Day at a Time reboot and Amazon StudiosWith Love.

Benicio del Toro to Star in Steven Soderbergh’s Crime Thriller “No Sudden Move”

The 53-year-old Puerto Rican Oscar-winning actor has joined the cast of Steven Soderbergh’s latest film No Sudden Move (f.k.a Kill Switch).

The crime thriller, which is being produced under Soderbergh’s recently formed overall deal with HBO Max, has commenced production

In addition to del Toro, the All-Star ensemble cast includes Don Cheadle, David Harbour, Amy SeimetzJon HammRay Liotta, Kieran Culkin, Brendan Fraser, Noah Jupe, Bill Duke, Frankie Shaw and Julia Fox.

Written by Ed Solomon, the film is set in 1955 Detroit and centers on a group of small-time criminals who are hired to steal what they think is a simple document. When their plan goes horribly wrong, their search for who hired them – and for what ultimate purpose – weaves them through all echelons of the race-torn, rapidly changing city.

“The last time I shot a movie in Detroit with a great script and a great cast things worked out really well, so I’m very excited behind my mask right now,” said Soderbergh.

“It’s a pleasure to begin production on another project with Steven Soderbergh, Casey Silver and Ed Solomon,” remarked Casey Bloys, Chief Content Officer for HBO and HBO Max. “We have an incredible partner in Warner Bros. HBO Renews Fred Armisen’s Spanish-Language Series “Los Espookys” for Second Season

There’s more espooky time in Fred Armisen‘s future…

HBO has ordered a second season of Los Espookys, its half-hour primarily Spanish-language comedy series from the 52-year-old half-Venezuelan American actor/comedian and Saturday Night Live alum and Lorne Michaels‘ Broadway Video.

Created and written by Armisen, Ana Fabregaand Julio Torres, the series is set in a strange and dreamy version of a present-day Latin American country and follows a group of friends turning their love for horror into a peculiar business.

“It’s a really fun, original, delightful show,” says HBO President of Programming Casey Bloys.

Fabrega and Torres star along with Cassandra CiangherottiBernardo Velasco and Armisen.

Armisen, Michaels, Andrew Singer and Alice Mathiasexecutive produce; Fabrega, Torres and Nate Youngco-executive produce. 

Fernando Friasdirected the entire first season. 

The series is produced by Broadway Video in association with AntigravicoMás Mejorand the Oscar-winning Chilean production company Fabula.
