The 27-year-old Spanish singer and songwriter has earned her first Billboard No. 1 with “Superestrella,” as the song lifts 2-1 on the Hot Latin Pop Songs chart dated August 8.
The single, from her fourth studio album, Cuarto Azul, also helps the set reach a new peak on the Top Latin Pop Albums chart.
“The most beautiful thing about all of this is that it has been completely unexpected,” Aitana tells Billboard. “I never imagined that ‘Superestrella’ could go so far and connect with so many people outside Spain. Seeing how a song has crossed borders and found its place in so many different places is incredibly moving. It has grown in such an organic way, thanks to the love with which people have shared it, sung it, and made it their own. I feel deeply grateful to everyone who has been part of this journey, because this achievement belongs to them too. It has been beautiful and incredibly emotional.”
“Superestrella” lands at No. 1 on Hot Latin Pop Songs after a 45% surge in U.S. audience impressions — to 12.8 million — during the July 24-30 tracking week, according to Luminate.
Released May 29 as one of 19 tracks on Cuarto Azul, the song reaches the summit in its 22nd week, marking the chart’s longest trek to No. 1 since its April 2025 launch.
“Superestrella” also sets best marks across multiple charts this week: On the global front, it takes the weekly Greatest Gainer honors on the Billboard Global 200 ranking, leaping 88-53 after a 24% gain in streams, with 17.1 million clicks worldwide. It also rallies 43-24 on the Global Excl. U.S. tally with 15.7 million streams outside the U.S, up 23%. The song’s massive global streaming boost can likely be attributed to Aitana’s performance at Spain’s official 2026 World Cup celebration, held July 20 at Madrid’s historic Plaza Cibeles, where she was joined by the national team.
Elsewhere, thanks to its streaming surge, the single also flies 36-18 on the multimetric Hot Latin Songs chart.
“’Superestrella’ was one of those songs that comes together almost without you realizing it,” Aitana shares. “It was the last song we made for Cuarto Azul, and we were already in the final week of songwriting. Honestly, I felt like I was running out of ideas, and I felt like making a fun song. On the way to the studio, someone from my team jokingly said, ‘Those are superstar problems,’ and we found the concept hilarious. That’s when I thought, ‘Come on, I’m going to make a song about this’—from a place of irony and fun. We wrote it with Nico Cotton and GALE in just a few hours, and from the very beginning, it had a very special energy. It was never created under the pressure of being a single or becoming a hit; it was a very free, fun song with a touch of irony that really represented me. I think that very natural quality is precisely what made people connect with it so deeply. In the end, it was the fans who decided to turn it into what it is today.”
With gains across the charts, “Superestrella” propels Cuarto Azul to new heights. After the set’s debut at No. 18 on Top Latin Pop Albums (dated Aug. 1), the set climbs to No. 12 with 2,000 equivalent album units, including 1.9 million from streaming activity.
