Natalie Morales is expanding her role at CBS…

The 50-year-old Brazilian and Puerto Rican journalist and current co-host/moderator of the CBS Daytime talk show The Talk will serve as a correspondent for CBS News, with duties that will include the true crime series 48 Hours.

Natalie Morales Morales will continue to co-host The Talk.

She joined CBS last year after 22 years at NBC News. She had served as the west coast anchor of Today and correspondent on Dateline. She also had a tenure as host of Access, co-host of Access Live and news anchor of Today, as well as co-hosting the show’s third hour.

She also was anchor of Reelz’s Behind Closed Doors with Natalie Morales.

She joined Today in 2006 as a national correspondent, and reported across the network.

Neeraj Khemlani, the president of CBS News and Stations, said in a statement that Morales “knows how to get to the heart of a tough story with compassion and grace.” Morales noted that 48 Hours “pioneered true crime television and I’m looking forward to working with the great team of producers and correspondents to bring the best stories to CBS viewers on Saturday nights.” The series, now in its 35th season, is executive produced by Judy Tygard.

In a statement, Tygard said, “Natalie is a high-profile reporter with a familiar voice that viewers trust. She’s also known for her exclusive, unsparing interviews of notorious criminals including Clark Rockefeller and Drew Peterson.”

Morales lives in Los Angeles with her husband and two sons. At NBC News, she also covered events including the mass shooting in 2017 at the Harvest Festival, the Boston Marathon bombing and the rescue of Chilean miners in 2010.

Natalie Morales is ready to talk…

The 49-year-old half-Puerto Rican journalist, who announced today she is leaving NBC News after 22 years, is expected to join CBS’ The Talk as a permanent co-host, according to Deadline.

Natalie Morales

CBS has declined to comment on the news reported by The Daily Mail.

Morales would take up the last open spot on the daytime talk show, joining fellow co-hosts Sheryl Underwood, Amanda Kloots, Jerry O’Connell and Akbar Gbajabiamila.

Gbajabiamila joined the panel last month, following the exits of Carrie Ann Inaba, Elaine Welteroth and Sharon Osbourne, who had been fired in March after sparking a media firestorm over comments she had made on air.

Inaba and Welteroth exited the show in August.

The Talk returned on September 13 for its 12th season.

Morales joined NBC’s Today in 2006 and went on to appear on other NBC News programs including NBC Nightly News and Dateline.

She will continue to appear on Dateline through the end of the year.

Elizabeth Vargas to Host Fox’s “America’s Most Wanted” Reboot

Elizabeth Vargas is wanted…

One of Fox’s signature programs, America’s Most Wanted, is coming back to the network with the 58-year-old half-Puerto Rican television journalist at the helm.

Elizabeth Vargas

For the new season, set to launch in March, the Emmy-winning journalist will succeed John Walsh as host of the revamped America’s Most Wanted, which is being produced in-house by Fox Alternative Entertainment.

While AMW‘s goal remains the same — enlisting public’s help to track down some of the country’s most dangerous fugitives — the program will now employ a number of technologically advanced tools to assist in the search, including harvesting the power of social media.

“It is about bringing people together, it is about unifying the country together in the pursuit of these criminals,” said Rob Wade, President, Alternative Entertainment & Specials, Fox Entertainment. “The show has the ability to create a huge impact on society and resonate with audiences. I think it represents in many ways the heart of America.”

The new AMW is done with the blessing of Walsh, who could appear on the program if his current commitments permit.

“Capturing dangerous fugitives, bringing justice to victims and finding missing children is my lifetime’s work,” Walsh said. “I am so excited to hear America’s Most Wanted is coming back and I support its return. God bless.”

Each week, Vargas will break down cases from the show’s new headquarters, consulting with a team of experts representing law enforcement units such as the FBI, U.S. Marshall’s Office and Secret Service.

The revival builds on its original format by using crime reenactments that will utilize new state-of-the-art crime-fighting technology, such as augmented reality and 3-D life-size avatars that will illustrate what suspects might look like now, pinpoint map-tracking that will take the audience hot-on-the-trail of suspects, and social media that will give viewers instant connection to the AMW team.

In addition to the FBI, the show also has access to Interpol files and would be able to use international police forces to help with the search, which is important in today’s global society where more and more fugitives are traveling outside of the country.

The revival will feature some high-profile cases where the alleged perpetrators were never caught, including cold cases from the original AMW. The profiled fugitives will be connected to a wide variety of crimes, including murder, fraud, kidnapping, sex crimes and theft.

In addition to big cases, AMW will also feature smaller crimes of the week to help law enforcement with current cases such as a gas station robbery caught on a CCTV camera.

Fox plans to keep AMW very current, with each episode filming 2-3 days before air and after the previous episode has run to include an update on the cases presented the previous week. The network will be getting word on the profiled cases out prior to their broadcast by including them in promos for the episode so viewers can start sending tips ahead of time that could result in an update in the premiere telecast.

“That’s what is at the heart of the show, crowdsourcing by using social media and approved communication systems to track down some of the most brutal criminals,” Wade said.

Fox was encouraged about the prospects of the new AMW from the get-go. The original proof of concept tackled two cases, which were investigated, reenacted with a trip to where the crime had happened. The producers spoke with local police departments and the Interpol. Through that process, the show reignited interest in one of the cases, law enforcement followed up and caught the fugitive.

After America’s Most Wanted linear telecasts on Fox, it will be available on Fox Entertainment’s streaming platform, Tubi, as well as On Demand, FOX Now and Hulu. On Demand episodes are available for customers of AT&T TV, Cox, DirecTV, Dish, Hulu Live, Optimum, Spectrum, Verizon FiOS, Xfinity, YouTube TV and many more.

America’s Most Wanted was the longest-running program in Fox history when it was canceled by the network in 2011 after 25 seasons, a mark since surpassed by The Simpsons. Following its cancellation by Fox, the show was picked up that same year by cable network Lifetime, where it aired until March 2013.

Hosted by Walsh, the original series featured reenactments of dangerous fugitives portrayed by actors, interspersed with on-camera interviews, with a voice-over narration by Walsh. Each episode also featured photographs of dangerous fugitives, as well as a toll-free hotline number where viewers could give information. To date, the program has helped capture more than 1,186 criminals, including 17 on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted list. It also has reunited 43 missing children with their families.

Fox Entertainment acquired the rights to AMW from corporate sibling Fox Television Stations, which produced the original series, and opted to produce the series in-house through its alternative studio.

“It made a lot of sense to have creative control of the show and the ability to put it on any platform,” Wade said.

Vargas hosted the ABC news magazine 20/20 for 15 years. Prior to that, she was the anchor of ABC’s World News Tonight and the news anchor on ABC’s Good Morning America. She won an Emmy for her live coverage of the Elian Gonzales raid, a Peabody Award as part of ABC’s team covering the Millennium and an Edward R. Murrow Award for breaking news coverage of Hurricane Katrina. Before ABC, Vargas worked at NBC News as a correspondent for Dateline and as the anchor of NBC’s Weekend News. Most recently, she was host of A&E Investigates. She is a best-selling author and the host of the podcast Heart of the Matter.

Elizabeth Vargas Leaving ABC News to Pursue New Ventures

It’s the end of a long chapter for Elizabeth Vargas…

The 55-year-old half-Puerto Rican journalist, an ABC News staple for two decades and co-anchor with David Muir of the network’s newsmagazine 20/20 for 14 years, is leaving the company in May after the show’s 40th season draws to a close.

Elizabeth Vargas

The news broke on Friday and ABC News president James Goldston and Vargas told staff in memos, with Goldston saying she was going to “pursue new ventures.” There was no mention of a 20/20 anchor replacement.

“It has been a profound privilege to be the anchor of 20/20 for 14 years, and a true honor to work with each and every one of you,” wrote Vargas in a memo to her co-workers after news broke of her departure. “I am incredibly lucky to work alongside the very best in the business: the producers, editors, writers on this show, and the enormous team working every week to get our show on the air. I am so very proud of the stories we have told together.”

Vargas has worn many hats at ABC’s news division, and famously was named co-anchor of the networks’ World News Tonight with Bob Woodruff. That job was announced in late 2005, about a month before Woodruff was severely injured by an IED while covering the war in Iraq. Eventually, Vargas stepped down from WNT and Charles Gibson became sole anchor.

She became only the second female 20/20 anchor when she replaced Barbara Walters in the fall of 2004, and the first Latina.

In 2014, she spoke about her alcohol addiction, and two years later wrote a book about it, Between Breaths: A Memoir of Panic and Addiction.

Vargas came to ABC from NBC, where she was a correspondent and anchor for Dateline NBC and Today among other assignments.

Natalie Morales is headed west…

The 43-year-old Puerto Rican/Brazilian American broadcast journalist is moving to Los Angeles to become Today’s West Coast anchor, as well as host of NBCUniversal’s Access Hollywood and Access Hollywood Live.

Natalie Morales

Morales, who has been part of the Today show team since 2006, will also continue to play a prominent role on Dateline.

“Natalie has already been spending a lot of time in California, reporting live from special events like the Oscars, Golden Globes and Billboard Latin American Music Awards, conducting celebrity interviews and set visits, and spearheading two big series spotlighting women who are leaders in Silicon Valley and Hollywood.  With our show’s increasing focus on West Coast stories, it became clear to me that having a permanent anchor presence in LA would be of enormous value,” says Today’s  SVP Noah Oppenheim in a memo. “Additionally, when NBCU Domestic TV Distribution heard that a talent of Natalie’s caliber and entertainment experience might soon be LA-based, they immediately jumped at the opportunity to have her host Access Hollywood and Access Hollywood Live.”

María Celeste Arrarás will be pulling double duty at Telemundo…

The network has named the 52-year-old Puerto Rican journalist and television host as the co-anchor of Noticiero Telemundo.

María Celeste Arrarás

Arrarás, an Emmy-winning journalist, will co-anchor the newscast with current host José Díaz-Balart.

The addition of Arrarás is the latest development in a strategy that has consolidated Noticiero Telemundo as the national newscast with the fastest growing audience on both Spanish and English-language television.

Arrarás will also continue hosting the news magazine show Al Rojo Vivo con María Celeste.

“María Celeste will contribute her years of experience and knowledge to Noticiero Telemundo,” said Sylvia Rosabal, Senior Vice President of Network News at Telemundo. “Noticiero Telemundo is known for offering truly relevant information to the Hispanic community. Viewers feel a close connection to María Celeste that will strengthen the special ties we have to our audience.”

Arrarás is considered one of the most respected journalists in Hispanic television. Since beginning her career in her native Puerto Rico, she has reported on some of the most important events in recent history for networks like Telemundo and Univisión. Her career transcends Spanish-language television to include nationwide programming like NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams, Today and Dateline.

“I am very excited to officially join ‘Noticiero Telemundo,’” said Arrarás. “I began my career in journalism reporting on local and international stories and traveling around the world to cover the news. This move marks a return to something I have in my blood: straight and objective reporting of the news.”

Noticiero Telemundo airs Monday through Friday at 6:30 pm EST.
